If you want to know how traffic can be a nightmare in LA, consider today. A big rig trying to avoid hitting the car in front in heavy traffic overturns and starts spilling its gasoline load on the 5 north freeway. All lanes blocked. This happens 7 am. It won't be fully reopened until 8:30 pm. Of course repercussions throughout freeway system and city streets. Ugh.
Serious thunderstorms on Sebago Lake tonight. It's been a great week so far, had the kids, their spouses, and grandkids until today. We love having them around but have to say the quiet tonight - they all left this afternoon - is nice.
Watched PDT's impromptu press availability before heading out to Dayton and El Paso. He just seems like the only adult thes days.
Red Flag laws - curtailing the rights of people that haven't done anything wrong or criminal - are too susceptible to abuse. We're supposed to trust the government to administer this fairly? They can't even properly enforce the current laws.
@readering,
Last week, I drove from Burbank to downtown LA off Temple St., and it was a fucking disaster. It was as if I had been magically transported to Guatemala (no racial slur intended, 1st 3rd World country to come to mind). Parking was a nightmare, the construction at the intersection was a nigjtmare, the homeless encampments were a nightmare.
Remind me to stay on the West Side.
Beautiful in Big Sky tonight. Clear and 70s but dropping fast. Had a grouse cross the road on the way home from dinner. Haven’t seen one of those in a while. Might harass the cutthroats tomorrow with the tenkara rod.
I watched some of Slow Joe's demagoguery this afternoon before switching over to a baseball game. Biden invoke the specter of the Klan as he attempted to smear President Trump as some kind of horrible racist. The same guy who was chummy with folks like Byrd is trying to tell us that Trump is "more like George Wallace than George Washington." Oh, yeah, that awful Republican George Wallace (sarcasm). And then he invokes FDR as one of the "moral" examples; the same FDR who put Americans of Japanese descent into REAL concentration camps during World War II. I just had to roll my eyes. Biden's been around for almost 80 years and he's learned nothing except how to dissemble.
Left, right, center, we can all unite against LA traffic.
I didn't see any spiders, but I'm sure they're in there somewhere.
Fat times for the arachnids, these days.
BTW, I discovered that there are aphids that can live on milkweed (Asclepias incarnata, in this case). I thought it was too toxic for anything but Monarch larvae and certain beetles.
I grow it for the Monarchs, so I can't spray it with Sevin or Malathion, so they're having their way with the milkweeds this year.
They're bright orange, and quite tenacious hanging on to the stems under hose assault.
Orange aphids, who knew?
I bet Biden’s target demo loves George Wallace’s stand up. What a gaffe by Biden.
People who say the democrats have cried wolf too many times have cried wolf too many times.
Wolf is clickbait. Everybody enjoys a new charge.

A letter to our subscribers, from the New York Times - As told to Chadwick Moore
... As some of you are aware, we failed in our commitment to ferociously guard the sanctity of your echo chamber this week. A headline appeared on our front page suggesting Orange Man spoke against racism. While the headline was factual, it was a flagrant betrayal of the service you expect us to provide and we literally stopped the presses to fix it...

Since Althouse likes checking prog headlines for us (they're misleading! they shouldn't do that!), I wonder if she has come across any that call for rounding up violent godless Warren supporters, with red flags and all that jazz.
So, anybody in a red state/county/city/town doxx their Dem neighbors today?
@Fullmoon
cant wait til the Lefties have everyone ratting out their neighbors like the good old days
Where have we seen this before? How did it go?
Note to self: don't piss off Chadwick Moore. 😂
I am lucky, by the time I was 5 I knew most people do not know they should want to be kind.
I paid a tough price for that knowledge - but I paid it, and I knew when I was just a little kid that most people are selfish and afraid and dishonest.
But I also knew that God loves us .......
Poor Biden - it must be a nightmare to go through life as a "pro-abortion" Catholic ----
How can you spend a single moment in a real Catholic church as a real human being and then go in front of people and say
YOU WANT POWER SO MUCH THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO ABANDON THE ABORTED BABIES AND THE POOR YOUNG MOTHERS WHO ARE COERCED INTO KILLING THEIR BABIES ....
I Mean, the poor guy. He could be president as long as FDR was and he still would be a figure of pity.
Sin makes us stupid.
Joe, repent. you poor slob.
The sad thing is, it is going to be him or poor Kamala Harris, the lying prosecutor, or the deeply unloveable liar and thief and phony Warren running against Trump. Such a sad group of people ! (Sanders is an angry old man with no chance).
If Trump loses, nobody will really be happy at the fact that one of those awful people is going to be living in the White House.
A year out from the election and the Dems are calling half the country racist. If they've deployed the atomic weapon of accusations -"racist"- in August 2019, what's going to be their weapon in August 2020 when they really start running? Maybe it's just that the Dem candidates are so inferior and ludicrous that the Dem campaign strategists are reduced to hoping to huff and puff and blow them across the finish line. Or maybe it's that we need our summer blockbuster movie which Hollywood can't deliver so the news is trying to fill the bill with a Birth of the Nation rerun. Which will flop in a a few weeks. Because most of the country now has black, white, Jewish, Hispanic and/or Asian relatives, including many young children. Ten years ago I had no direct minority kin, now I have 5. This changes everything. No one, I mean no one, wants these little mites to know what fools some people have been - it's past.

"A system of "judiciary" organs was created in each prescript. In the first the judiciary was divided into a Grand Council of Yahoos, to try officers of the Klan, and a Grand Council of Centaurs to try regular Ghouls. In Art. IV Sec. 4, the Grand Giant is charged with conducting the Council of Yahoo, but Art. VI Sec. 2 states that the Council will be composed of officers of the equivalent rank as the accused and presided over by an officer of the next higher rank. A trial of the Grand Wizard would be held by a meeting of all the Grand Dragons, the most senior Grand Dragon presiding[23] It is unclear if these tribunals were ever functional.[24]" - wiki

Happened here in Wisconsin in 2012. Over a million names (with home addresses) of Democratic (and Independent) voters who signed a petition calling for a recall election were published online.
Tho most of the funding for the online database came from an out-of-state organization...so I reckon technically it wasn't "neighbors" who were doing it.

Jesus. Do you lefties ever stop lying?
From WMTV NBC 15
UPDATED: Friday, February 3, 2012 --- 6:45p.m.
Madison, WI – The Government Accountability Board today released digital copies of recall petitions for Lt. Governor Kleefisch.
In total, G.A.B. staff scanned 140,123 petition pages for the Lt. Governor’s recall, all of which were given to the Lt. Governor’s representative Friday, as well as released on the G.A.B.’s website.
The Board has not yet estimated the number of signatures on the petitions, as the signature review process is just beginning.
The petitions are being released under Wisconsin’s Public Records Law, as well as a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, Doe v. Reed, involving the release of referendum petitions in Washington State. Unlike an elector’s vote, which is private and confidential, the signing of recall petition is a public process. The PDF copies released by the Board are not computer-searchable."
Such petitions have to be published online- it is part of the certification process. If they aren't public records, petitions like this would be trivial to game.
And I see Drago has already made that point.
@Drago -
A) I ain't no "lefty" (NTTAWWT, of course).
B) I ain't lying (Tho, I reckon some can quibble over the use of the word "most" when talking about the funding...so I'll be happy to retract that throw-a-way quip).
The basic facts remain true: It did happen in Wisconsin, it was in 2012, and over a million names&addresses of people who were seeking to hold recall elections were (and still are) available in an online searchable database.
Nothing in the article you quoted shows any of that to be untrue - so CTFO already.
@Yancey -
The information in the Joaquin Castro tweet (which is what I beleive the comment I was responding to was referring to) is also considered "public record".
The difference is that Castro was encouraging his supporters to harass them. He had better hope no one is harmed in doing this because his ass will be owned. The database you linked to was just to verify the recall wasn't a fraud- it was made searchable so people could tell if someone was signing in their place. I remember some people did claim that their names were forged. In any case, it didn't matter, the recall failed at the ballot box.
And Drago's point still stands- the State of Wisconsin published the files online as images- the database work just made it all searchable and easier to use for verification. This is categorically different from what Castro did- it isn't even a close call.
There are no similarities between what the WI Govt Accountability Board did in 2012 pursuant to statutory requirements and what Castro did.
Zip.
Nada.
Zilch.
Feel free to keep lying to yourself but dont expect anyone else to buy the BS.
The difference is that Castro was encouraging his supporters to harass them
I don't see that in the original tweet where he named the names. Could you show me what you're referring to?
The database you linked to was just to verify the recall wasn't a fraud
That was the stated intention, but others used it for other reasons. Some folks lost their job for signing the petition - Josh Inglett is one well-publicized example. I also saw, first-hand, the Young Republicans of Dane County using the database at one of their events that was open to the public. (Not sure what their intentions were in running everyone's name through the database - it didn't appear that any of the dozen or so guests had signed it)
Ain't sayin' the YRoDC aren't allowed to screen folks who come to their public events - rather that their usage of the information had nothing to do with fraud prevention.
In any case, it didn't matter, the recall failed at the ballot box
Exactly - the election was long ago. If "fraud prevention" was the only intention, then there is no need for it to still be online.
purplepenguin: "That was the stated intention, ..."
Well yeah, given it is the law.
Thanks for playing.
Johnny, tell our contestant about his/her/xer parting gift (I'm hoping its the home version!!)
Drago's point still stands
Drago had two points:
1) I was lying about there being an online searchable database of Wisconsinites who wanted a recall election
2) I am a lefty.
Neither of those "stand", 'cause neither of those are true.
I still don't understand why you beleive that Castro tweeting public information is way different than the TeaParty organizations publishing public information in an online searchable database. Would you mind elaborating on that? Thanks
Well yeah, given it is the law
There ain't no "law" which requires political organizations to create an online searchable database of petition signers - you are either a liar for saying so or hugely ignorant for beleiving as such.
Which is it?
LA traffic is hideous, do not miss at all!
Completely agree wildswan.
I ain't no "lefty" (NTTAWWT, of course)
Anyone who would say this is a stinking Lefty. There is a lot wrong with being a Leftist, of course, and a lot to answer for.
Just finished re-watching Man Of The Year with Robin Williams. In the first 15 minutes I could swear he said covefe? Probably the script will state it elsewise, but (if it is possible to pronounce that word) I'm sure he said it :)
Remarkable how well that film has held up - disregarding participants' political views - the commentary is as realistic and cynical as it was when first screened.
Big stabbing attack in Southern California, four dead, two wounded. I guess there will be calls for all of us to turn in our assault knives in 3, 2, 1...
So, anybody in a red state/county/city/town doxx their Dem neighbors today?
Happened here in Wisconsin in 2012. Over a million names (with home addresses) of Democratic (and Independent) voters who signed a petition calling for a recall election were published online.
Oh, same thing then. Right in the midst of Trump voters being called Nazis, KKK, calls on TV and internet for extermination of Trump voters. Right after slaughter of innocents being blamed on evil Trump voters on talk shows and MSM.
Same darn thing.
And, let's not forget Los Angeles Times publishing names of anyone who donated to California prop8 in support of traditional marriage.
That was the stated intention, but others used it for other reasons. Some folks lost their job for signing the petition - Josh Inglett is one well-publicized example.
Well, that sucks.
Now, name another person who lost their job.
Wow, Penguin, you play stupider than Inga, it appears.
The names and addresses were put on-line by the State of Wisconsin in compliance with the recall laws. The names and addresses were already on-line. That is the point Drago was making. You can still obtain those records as part of the public records access according to the State of Wisconsin's website.
That the searchable database still exists isn't surprising- lots of stuff no longer of use is available online if you know where to look. Anyone fired for signing the petition should sue and win easily, but when I read your link, it was clear that Inglett had been a political appointee of the man who was facing a recall, not some Joe Schmoe working at Pabst. So, I think I will just call your claim extremely misleading. If you can come up with a better example, I will read it too. A political appointee being fired for being a political opponent isn't wrong- it is how politics works.
Also, Penguin:
Castro wrote:
"Their contributions are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as ‘invaders.’
Now, you have to be really, really stupid to not understand the point of writing that along with the names and addresses of the 44 people in San Antonio. This pretty much also undermines your claim to not be a "lefty"- I will just flat out state that you are a liar.
Now, name another person who lost their job
I ain't your little monkey, and I ain't gonna dance just 'cause you rudely demand that I do so.
You asked if anybody in a red state/county/city/town doxxed their Dem neighbors. The people in the searchable database have been "doxxed" in the same manner that the people listed in the Castro tweet were. (more so, perhaps - the tweet didn't list home addresses, while the database does.)
The names and addresses were put on-line by the State of Wisconsin in compliance with the recall laws. The names and addresses were already on-line
As previously stated, the names & address of the campaign donors are also considered public records. They were already available on-line from the Federal Election Commission (in compliance with election finance laws) long before the tweet was sent.
Are you under the impression that Castro somehow "stole" that information and it wasn't already publicly available? Please clarify.
Now, you have to be really, really stupid to not understand the point of writing that along with the names and addresses of the 44 people in San Antonio
You have to be really, really, REALLY stupid to be discussing this without even reading the tweet-in-question yourself. And yes - based on this comment of yours, it appears you haven't seen it.
Are you intentionally being dishonest or just lazy/sloppy? Please clarify.
And since you now appear to be speaking for Drago - Can you please show me this law he is talking about which required those TeaParty Organizations to create the searchable database and put it online. Thanks
That doesn't simplify anything at all. In fact, your weird question makes things a whole lot more complicated.
Washington leftists pulled the same intimidation tactics on a gay marriage initiative a couple years ago. They created a searchable database to provide the names and addresses of anybody who DARED sign the petition. In fact, they created a website specifically for it: whosigned dot org
They admitted up front their entire intent was to shame, harass and intimidate people who had the sheer audacity to not share their views.
Thuggery. Nothing more. Nothing less.
If a civil war does break out? It's gonna start here.
