"Three days after his film 'Green Book' won top honors at the Golden Globes, director Peter Farrelly apologized for repeatedly flashing his penis two decades ago in an attempt to be funny."

"'True. I was an idiot,' he said in a statement. 'I did this decades ago and I thought I was being funny and the truth is I’m embarrassed and it makes me cringe now. I’m deeply sorry.'... Actress Cameron Diaz [said in 1998] 'When a director shows you his penis the first time you meet him, you’ve got to recognize the creative genius'.... [Farrelly said in 1998] 'It’s not like I make a habit of just whipping it out and saying, "Hey! Look! My cock!" We do a joke where, it’s like, Bob says, "Pete’s been really crazy, he went out and spent $500 on a belt buckle." I go, "Bob, it’s an investment, it’s not a big deal." He says, "You’re stupid! $500 on a belt buckle!" I say it’s not stupid … Finally she says, "Let me see it." And I lift my shirt and have it…hanging over.'"

Lighten up, Dude. It was 1998. Bill Clinton had gotten hummers in the Oval Office. We were liberated from old-fashioned puritanical attitudes toward sex. We were becoming sophisticated, like the Europeans. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.

There was once an entire genre of humor like this. Humanity seems to have survived.

In the movie, Cameron treats splooge as a hair care product. If she didn't find the ole penis/belt buckle gag funny, she would not have been the right girl for the part. There were many gags in that movie that were far more offensive. That was the point of the gags. It was humor such as this that enabled women to celebrate their liberation in the diarrhea scene in Bridesmaids. First they come for the penis gags, then they come for the diarrhea in bridal gown jokes. Where will it end?

When you're a Democrat director, they let you flash your penis at actresses.

When I was seventeen my friend, his girlfriend and I were watching TV in her basement. He said "hey Paaaaants" and when I looked over at him he was waving his penis at me. His girlfriend rolled her eyes, I threw a pillow at him and told him to stop being disgusting.

He now works as mental health administrator in the Arizona prison system. Should I ruin his life?

Who hasn't had a boy being a derp and waving a penis at her? How debilitating can it possibly be?

"I was an idiot"

Where's the list of Hollywood types who "were" idiots but no longer "are" idiots and therefore entitled to lecture us deplorables?

By the way, did Streep ever say that she was an "idiot" for applauding Polanski?

Peter Farrelly is responsible for one of the great achievements of American cinema, the Dumb and Dumber dream scene. I think we can forgive him his trespasses.

Another reason not to circumcise an Academy member's member. Can you really say a director exposed himself to you if the Director Guild of America member's member is shrouded in foreskin. You mustn't be so squeamish at the sight of a worm-like protuberance. You should just laugh it off as ridiculous. However, if it's circumcised, scream for a Cossack to cover it up with a cock sack.

I mean it is inappropriate. But it is in the context of joke, unlike what Louis C.K. did. Seems similar to what Chris Pratt apparently did on Parks and Rec. Where when filming a simulated nude scene, on one take he actually did go in the nude, and Amy Pohler did see his penis. It is inappropriate, but should be something any person can handle and recover from.

There's something wrong in the entertainment business.

When people used to say that back at that time, say, about on-set shenanigans or other extra-curriculars like Polanski, they were called too straight-laced. You didn't understand art.

'Something About Mary' is one of my favorite quotable movies. (Ask anyone who's worked in Human Services about Loving Working With the Retards, and see the response.) Super impressed with Cameron Diaz's Good Spirited Straight Man performance.

I was even more impressed with Jonathan Richman's narrative moving a la Burl Ives and Nat King Cole in 'Cat Balou.'

A lot of New England Humor, outside of the gravity pull of the f#ckin' Ivies, is fart humor, just like everywhere else. Maybe a bit rawer.

Tom T. म्हणाले...

I'll bet he never played that joke on a male actor.

William म्हणाले...

His target audience, namely Cameron Diaz, thought it was funny. In context, it reads pretty funny. The movie had lots of jokes that were even more raw, and that movie made Cameron Diaz rich and famous. This is a weird kind of hypocrisy. You laugh at things in public that you condemn in private. I wish people were less hypocritical in their hypocrisy.

narciso म्हणाले...

I didnt Cameron Diaz is all that, she was cute in the mask but subsequently, let's not even get into Charlie's angels.

Tom T. म्हणाले...

To me, Diaz's statement sounds more diplomatic than approving, and she presumably didn't want to get a reputation in the industry for being a "difficult" actress. It doesn't seem necessarily unreasonable to worry more about how someone behaves in private, because a private setting can potentially be open to pressures and abuses that a public setting cannot.

Bilwick म्हणाले...

"'It’s not like I make a habit of just whipping it out and saying, 'Hey! Look! My cock!'' He doesn't? Am I to assume that whipping it out and saying, "Hey! Look! My cock!" is generally frowned up on?

Uh oh.
