It was so funny I had to share. We are still working on the house. Someday it will end.

The baby quail and owls are all leaving home. A neighbor has been posting the progress of an owl family on his house.

Here is part of it showing the owlets first adventures out of the nest.

Thanks for the link to the owl pics, very nice. Owls are such compellingly mysterious-looking creatures.

(The owl of Minerva flies at dusk.... Is it dusk now? It's nice to think that we've arrived at the perspective that allows us to understand what's going on. Amid all the rage and chaos, and getting old, I still find myself avidly curious about what's coming next.)

So there's this video game that's going to be released early next year, Far Cry 5, by French game developer Ubisoft. I think it's safe to say it's going to be provocative.

Yesterday I ran into this clip on BBC News. It has to do with all the love preached at the Didsbury Mosque.

I think it speaks for itself. The panel's reaction to the reality check provided by the older man is rather daunting - they just can't deal with it. They retreat into denial.

Living in a society in which people have accepted a Western lifestyle brings immorality into every step. Modesty, shame and honor have no place in Western civilization.

" Modesty, shame and honor have no place in Western civilization."

Not the 7th century variety. We like modern stuff like cars, flush toilets and women who can drive the cars.

It's like we were invaded by aliens from another planet.

"The criticism of Lou Reed's classic hit "Walk on the Wild Side" as "transphobic" at an Ontario university has reignited the long-simmering debate around the impact of cultural sensitivity on campuses and whether there's a chill on freedom of speech and topics that could offend.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, the University of Guelph Central Student Association apologized for playing Reed's 1972 tune during a recent campus event.

"It's come to our attention that the playlist we had on during bus pass distribution on Thursday contained a song with transphobic lyrics," read a portion of the post.

"We now know the lyrics to this song are hurtful to our friends in the trans community and we'd like to unreservedly apologize for this error in judgment."

"We were furious about the past presidential election. Of a man whose presidency would eventually end in disgrace with his impeachment for obstruction of justice. After firing the person running the investigation into him at the Department of Justice."
— Hillary Clinton, Wellesley College commencement speech.

Just obstruction of justice? She left out perjury if she was trying to remember the 2 charges for which her husband was impeached.

This has been a difficult decade for my husband and I. We have found ourselves on the outs from the "correct flow of expectations", we have not thrived and lost some keen friendships along the way.

So the people that have chosen to be or stay invested in friendship with us, those amazing folks that won't let us go, are a humbling treasure for me. Beyond beliefs, beyond politics, beyond surfaces. What Precious ones they are!

One of those people, a woman so grounded and good, texted a fivesome yesterday for prayer: for her young pie-baking, mountain-climbing, peach-picking daughter, who is having shoulder surgery this morning.

What I want to report here is that i could not help but observe the delightful lifting Joy it caused ME all night and this day as I telegraphed out to the ether on her behalf.

so first: There is nothing like an assignment to animate one's Being!

second: My heart's song of "ease and grace, excellence and success for the surgery and recovery" transformed ME, whatever else may occur.

so i had to observe the phenomena: What a transforming effect on our own Mind/Body/Spirit person it is to be a generator of hope for Good for another. (Makes me think on the simple Buddhist prayer, "may all beings be happy" and what a lifting exercise of mind and temperament that can be.)

To generate and transmit energy on behalf of another is its own reward, hallelujah, its own vitamin, glory be, its own grace, so glad and grateful-making.

May my prayers help the "Peach Slave" and all who surround her as much as they lift my own chemistry.

I want to thank those that helped me plan our trip to Tucson. We made it to Tubac, and Tombstone. Bisbee was on the agenda, but was displaced by pool time.

I was surprised to see a 75mph speed limit on I-10. I was stuck in a 4-banger Jeep rental without a blower (elevation 4-4500ft). It was difficult to achieve freeway speeds, and I never left the right hand lane!!

Gas is a buck less per gallon.

We were 10 to 20 miles from the Mexican border, and never crossed into Mexico. Border Patrol has inspection stations about 20 miles north of the border. In fact, I saw more Border Patrol than I did Arizona Highway Patrol....or any other law enforcement agency (except for the Earp brothers, and that Holliday character).

The Canadian border has no where near that many resources, and they stay on the border.

There must be 300-400 train engines sitting end-to-end on the track south of I-10 between Vail, AZ, and Benson, AZ. I had to look at google maps, and the things have been sitting there since at least Sept. 2016. Is it a train engine graveyard??

Interstate 19 is metric. Everything from the Tucson airport, and to the south was in metic measurements.

"We were furious about the past presidential election."

At this point I feel she's playing the part she's been assigned - the wronged woman whose election was stolen. Without her performance it's more difficult for others on the stage to maintain their sense of moral indignation.

So she shows up, plays her part, and cashes her check for doing so.

The Little Lady Preacher

....She was down on booze and cigarettes and high on days to come
And she'd punctuate the prophecy with movements of her hips

The Lord knows how I loved her, he was there each time she preached
But ol' Luther took her home each Sunday morn'
Looking back I still recall the way it hurt my tender pride
I longed to be a hero but they're made not born

Sometimes ol' Luther showed up at the studio half-tight
And smoking was a thing he liked to do
She never said a word to him but said a prayer for me
I told her in a way that I'd been praying for her too

With a sigh and low expectations, I'll put V for Vendetta in the DVD player.

The hope is that it's saved by a sense of humor, but it may not be, or it may be a "laff riot" with similar bail-out-quick effects.

Edge of Tomorrow Live Die Repeat was good. The guy relives the day trying to defeat the aliens but also to spend more time with the warrior-girl he's trying to defeat the aliens with.

"We made it to Tubac, and Tombstone."

Isn't Tubac great ? It was the first Spanish stop north of Mexico and was a settlement very early.

I have an old, very old, map with Tucson on it but not much else.

We're going over to Tombstone but not on a big holiday weekend.

madAsHell म्हणाले...

Unfortunately, Tubac was a quick morning turn-around trip. I think we should have spent the night in some lazy motel with a hammock on the porch. I could feel Tubac time, but I couldn't embrace it.

Most of what I know about the Arizona territory was captured watching "Bat Masterson" re-runs in black-n-white. The visit to Tombstone helped fill in the colors.

Michael K म्हणाले...

Tubac has a population of 10,000 and 1,000 art galleries.

One art gallery for every 10 people.

Some day I'm going to make a trip to trace out the locations for Louie L'Amour's novel "Hondo."

I think the geography is accurate. It's east of Fort Huachuca.

My friends' ranch is down there. a little west of the fort and there is an old ranch house at the east end of the ranch which is a ruin after an Apache attack in the 1880s. The ruins are still there,.

Well, I made it to the end of V for Vendetta. They have a hundred actors at the end acting out getting a meaningful message from it.

There is slow, sad but resolute talk. Going forward from there perhaps is the plan. Is there a V for Vendetta II.

There's an international weekend contest on for 48 hours (GMT). In an hour I worked Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Portugal, Costa Rica, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine and Yugoslavia. Contest pros work ten times as fast. That's enough excitement for now.

Early tomorrow morning maybe there will be some Oceana to the west.

I did a business trip to Fort Huachuca once. On my way out the door I realized that I hadn't packed my umbrella. Then I reminded myself that we were talking Fort Huachuca, where the average annual rainfall is pretty low. So of course it rained while I was there.

Oh dear, I see the local news tonitein in Oregon is reporting a Maga fellow on a train saying nasty things to 2 women, one in a hijab. Two men step in to defend the women and this guy slashes their throats?!!!

That is the early report. If so, it is something new. Up to now, it is the antitrumpers harming their fies.

Something New and terribly sad if true.

From Indiana comes an inside look at Trump Math:

Back in Dec, Trump announced the agreement with Carrier to save Indy Carrier jobs +1,100

But that was an overstatement, because some jobs were never scheduled to go to Mexico - 300

Carrier advises Indiana of job eliminations between July and year-end 2017 - 632

Jobs Saved at a cost of a $7 Million Dollar giveaway to Carrier = 168

Cost per job saved = $41,600.

And the other shoe: Carrier will invest in automation at the Indy Furnace plant.
