"People want change desperately. And almost no one believes Clinton represents that radical change — or anything close to it. Trump, in that passage above, puts his life outside of politics forward as incontrovertible evidence that he will walk the walk when it comes to bringing real change to the nation's capitol."
Writes Chris Cillizza in "Donald Trump gave a very, very good speech today in Pennsylvania."

But Trump has ***NO*** chance of winning PA!
The reference to "Network" brings to mind Hillary's tirade: "You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Comey, and I won't have it!!"
Chris Cillizza so very desperately wants not to be dismissed and forgotten.
Incidentally, this site is still throwing Error 400/Bad header requests if not already logged into the Google account before commenting.
It's coming and coming fast.
Hillary and her supporters (I'm looking at you shiloh) are whistling past the graveyard.
our family talked over dinner tonight, 4 votes for Trump, and all downticket Repubs. None of us are overly happy about it, but there we are. When my apolitical, planned parenthood supporting wife is going Trump, and boosting Toomey for Senate in PA, I think there is a undercurrent that we haven't see since 1980, my first election.
I live in PA, near Philly. Every single Democrat ad, be it TV or mailers, appeals only to women and only on the basis of Trump wanting to defund Planned Parenthood. There is no other issue or even any other gender for that matter. And it's been like this for months.
Qwinn, I split my time between Bucks County and Cumberland County, and you are right. McGinty's whole campaign is focused on abortion / planned parenthood. Well, that and her 9 odd siblings which curiously, haven't appeared to support her in any ads I've seen in the Harrisburg market.
Todd, Trump has clearly said that he opposes the abortion aspect of Planned Parenthood. He supports their activities designed to help women's health etc.
"Chris Cillizza so very desperately wants not to be dismissed and forgotten."
To be fair that applies to 99.9% of political pundits who on a good day have a keen grasp of the obvious.
Also to a good portion of the faithful Althouse conservative flock!
Indeed, the whole idea of blogging is to be seen and heard ie please look at me. Which is why MK had no chance of not posting until after the election as he sees himself as god's gift to political commentary.
btw, how long did the dinosaur last? May have to do some quick research.
I've been saying for months that the only reason I won't vote for Trump (besides the fact it won't matter in California) is that i haven't gone the full Howard Beale yet. I believe I've written it several times on this site.
"People want change desperately." No. Most people want to keep the welfare state trough filled, don't know enough about the administrative state to know what they might want to change, couldn't care less about foreign policy--and those who do want "change" want very different kinds of change (higher vs. lower taxes, amnesty vs. wall, more vs. less intervention abroad, etc.). Of course, most Republican primary voters didn't want change desperately enough to support Trump. If "people" wanted "change" desperately, Clinton would never have had a chance. QED.
"And almost no one believes Clinton represents that radical change — or anything close to it."
LOL. That's the understatement of the year. If you like the direction the USA is going, then vote Hillary. She's going to push down on the accelerator. You'll have amnesty, open borders, a Ginsberg-Wise Latina dominated supreme court, a corrupted FBI, massive trade and budget deficits, Crony Capitalism, and the Banksters given the green light to loot to their hearts content. And Goodbye 2nd Amendment.
You want 1 million Syrians in the USA? Well, Hillary will give them to you.
Immigration laws, voter identification laws, and the mere whisper of Religion will be found unconstitutional.
She'll "Invade the world, and invite the world" to an extent even Bush/Obama couldn't even contemplate.
And if you think corrupt Cucks like McConnell and Ryan will stop her from doing anything, you are a fool.
Qwinn,
In Colorado that was Mark Udall's campaign in 2014, which earned him the nickname Mark Uterus, but lost him a senate seat.
"But Trump has ***NO*** chance of winning PHILLY!" (Fixed it)
BTW, I fully expect "Drama Queen Kennedy" to retire if Hillary wins election and nominates a 5th Ginsberg.
He will no longer be the center of attention. With 5 rock solid Leftists, they won't need his vote and the NYT/WaPo will stop caring what a wonderful, reasonable conservative he is.
He will just be another minority vote or a 6th unneeded majority vote.
"And almost no one believes Clinton represents that radical change — or anything close to it."

very low energy wonky-sound bite speech. sad he knows he losing

So you going to get the Hillary/Mao Tse Tung Hour staring Sybil The Soothsayer.
Howard: "sad (sic) he knows he (sic) losing"
And this is your grammar on drugs.
Every single Democrat ad, be it TV or mailers, appeals only to women and only on the basis of (fill in the blank) wanting to defund Planned Parenthood (and take away "a woman's choice"). There is no other issue or even any other gender for that matter. And it's been like this for DECADES.
Trump has given on message speeches similar to the one today many times before.
Maybe Ciulizza never listened before.
Since it ow appears that Hillary's scandals have caught up with her and she may be held accountable for her corruption and incompetence, it is time to take Trump seriously.
Gahrie and all you well intentioned, tender souls (obviously I exclude all outright Clinton voters), I'd like to quote Chris Matthews:
If you like the way things are the way they are headed in this country. If you’d like to continue the destruction of our manufacturing base, and the jobs that went with it. If you like the uncontrollable immigration, if you like the string of stupid wars from Iraq to Libya to Syria. If you want to say yes to all of that, if you want to keep this all the way it is, fine, then vote for Hillary Clinton. If you don’t like the way things are headed you got a chance to really shake the system the system at its roots. If you wake up on Election Day and it’s the same as it is today, if its the same 4 or 5 or 8 years from now, remember you had a chance really change it up but you were too dainty to do it.
Now is not the time for dainty.
Now is the time to screw your courage to the sticking-place.
Doesn't matter if your state is deep red or deep blue. Doesn't matter if you win or lose. Never mind the tactical reasons, the division of enemy forces, the cost of ad buys, the election lawyering to come.
This is your chance to vote against the worst thing that ever happened to America. And that was the good part.
This is The Big One.
Stand up and be counted.
Now's your chance.
Make it count.
Vote for Donald J. Trump on November 8th as you value your lives, your fortunes, and your very souls.
There is no other issue or even any other gender for that matter.
I take that back. This year we have seen accusations that Trump and the Republicans are really commies in league with the Russians and that Trump is going to start a nuclear war with the Russians (that they are conspiring with) or someone, or maybe he won't respond to a nuclear attack by the Russians or somebody because there are four minutes between the time the order is given and the missiles fly (huh?), complete with footage from real or maybe simulated launch rooms and even grown-up daisy girl from LBJ fame. Yes, this is Hillary's real campaign issues/ads and not a parody.
If Donny loses, it will have nothing to do with NeverTrump conservatives but will be solely due to Donny's immaturity, thin skin and the undeniable fact that he's an asshole. If Donny had exercised some self-control and self-discipline and given speeches like this one continuously since his nomination, without letting himself go off on some deranged punch-down rant at every Gold Star family or former beauty queen that he thought had wronged him, he'd be winning. He's such a jerk.
right it's not the two to one campaign spending, the 65 reporters enjoying podesta's rizzotto,
none of that, when attacked one is supposed to 'lie back and think of england'

He's such a jerk.
Hillary stood on the coffins of dead veterans and knowingly lied to the faces of the gold star families about why the veterans died and put an American citizen in jail for a year to support her lie.
Trump is a jerk. Hillary is a purely evil amoral sub-human being.
Anyone who supports or votes for Clinton has flushed their soul down a toilet.
Anyone who fails to vote for trump is not worthy of the freedom other people gave them.
Achilles, I take it you agree with my political analysis of why Donny's in trouble. Thanks.
And just to be clear about it: I don't care whether the witch or the asshole wins, I hate them both. I am praying only for continued gridlock for the next four years, no matter which one wins.
Douglas: "I am praying only for continued gridlock for the next four years, no matter which one wins."
Then you are a fool since the Dems have shown us quite clearly the methodology they will use to act unilaterally. That, plus the inevitable leftist supreme Court majority, unrestricted illegal immigration and near monolithic control of our institutions will permanently do the trick.
But you just go right ahead pretending "gridlock" is a possible outcome of a Hillary presidency.
The ability of the #NeverTrumpers and the #ThereIsNoDifference crew to convince themselves that their position is consequence and responsibility free continues to amaze.
Is this the "King of Prussia Mall" speech that's being disussed?
Anyone who fails to vote for trump is not worthy of the freedom other people gave them.
So noted. I will share this notion with others.
Trump has had plenty of time to convince us that if we're mad about the way things are going, he's the solution. Instead, he comes across like the coach who is tired of his football team losing so decides to replace his lackluster quarterback with a Doberman, figuring anything is better than that lackluster quarterback. A Trump presidency would be a mess, and would certainly make things worse. There's just no dressing up that pig.
But the best Trump argument is that this isn't a referendum on Trump--it's a choice between him and Clinton, and the direction she would take us would be even worse. To use my example above, it'd be like saying instead of replacing the lousy quarterback with a Doberman, we replace it with a goldfish. Sure, a Doberman will probably poop all over the field and fumble the ball every time it's snapped, but the goldfish would just flop around on the ground until it quickly expires. And there's just no option for a human quarterback, because the primary electorates have spoken and decided to go with pets this time.
Sucks, but that could be a winning argument, so long as voters keep thinking of the goldfish.
"A Trump presidency would be a mess, and would certainly make things worse. "
I'm always interested in these people who can predict the future. Where will the stock market be a year from now ?
Will the Cubs win the 7th game ?
How about the Iranian bomb ? When will they set one off and where ?
"I'm always interested in these people who can predict the future."
Oh come on--you're pretty confident a Clinton presidency would be bad, aren't you? Or should I accuse you of predicting the future?
Obviously no one can be sure what will happen with either of them in office. But we can make fairly reasonable estimations based on their histories and their promises.
With Weld coming out for Hillary (yeah, shocker, I know), you might see LP party voters going Trump.

For his faults, Trump's history isn't an unending string of failure. Hillary's is.
It's about time the fucking bastards and brain dead buffalos stop staring at the wall and janitor this mess before Trump wins and hangs the Dems and their RINO allies.
Sure, Brando. Go ahead and tell us all based on Trump's record as an elected official how terrible he will be. Lay it all out.
I was correct in every particular about Obama. I was correct because his actions while in elective office told us what to expect. The same can be said of Hillary.
But let's face what's really happening: Some of you holier-than-thou pricks just can't allow yourselves, psychologically, to admit even a hint of error. You'll pounce on every detail as confirmation of what you believe. And there's not a damned thing anybody can do to move you from your preconceived notions.
Trump wasn't my first, second, third or fourth choice. But at this late stage he's all that stands between you and the complete consolidation of power within Leviathan. And Leviathan actively hates you and must punish you to bend you to its will.
But your own sense of self-importance won't allow you to get there.
"But your own sense of self-importance won't allow you to get there."
You underestimate my sense of self importance.
"Sure, Brando. Go ahead and tell us all based on Trump's record as an elected official how terrible he will be. Lay it all out."
Experience as an elected official can tell you how someone will govern in their next job, but no other experience counts? I try to make a judgment based on everything we know about the candidate. It's no crystal ball, but we go with what we have to work with.
Your non-answers are simultaneously amusing and telling.
Brando: "You underestimate my sense of self importance."
On this, we likely agree.
"Your non-answers are simultaneously amusing and telling."
How are they non-answers? I'm making a judgment on both candidates. You're saying we can't judge Trump because he was never in elected office. I disagree, as apparently do many Trump fans who think he's a brilliant person and not just a "blank slate".
If we took your "only judge them by elected office" argument a step further, one could even argue that we can't really judge how either of them would be as president because they have never actually been president. After all, it is a very different job from Senator or even Governor, and many presidents had tenures that were not apparent in their previous elected offices.
So in making a choice, yes we have to work with what we already know. What I know about them I don't like. Maybe you disagree about Trump. So be it.
"On this, we likely agree."
If you agreed you wouldn't be underestimating...just saying...ok enough about that now...
Make no mistake, I am not underestimating your own sense of self-importance.
Brando: "You're saying we can't judge Trump because he was never in elected office."
I believe you'll have to quote me writing that before I'll believe I wrote it. Quit projecting. Try harder.
"Go ahead and tell us all based on Trump's record as an elected official how terrible he will be."
Birkel, from that I inferred that you meant my judgment of Trump was faulty.
You misspelled incorrectly between "I" and "inferred".
"You misspelled incorrectly between "I" and "inferred"."
If that's not what you meant, then duly noted.
"The guiding rule of the political class in Washington, D.C., is that they are looking out only for themselves. They will say anything, and do anything, to cling to their power and prestige at your expense."
He should have been repeating this line at every speech for the last 6 months.
The mystery about what I meant can be solved by reading the words I typed.
Good luck.
"Todd, Trump has clearly said that he opposes the abortion aspect of Planned Parenthood. He supports their activities designed to help women's health etc."
Hairs? Split. Cares? Not a whit.

It's a Hunger Games election. I wish, too, that this had been his go-to message for the entire campaign ... because he's right.
Shiloh - Chuck's evil twin.

A msg to the Nevertrumpers; "Retro Me Satanas."
