"We will take everything that has been handed to us as Americans, and we will turn our nation and we will turn the future and we turn all the work that we have before us into some brand of a thing of beauty."Some brand.... Trump is a master of branding.

"I hope the president-elect does such a great job that I vote for his re-election in four years."
Said Hollywood actor Tom Hanks.

Superb speech.
Hanks would never ever vote Republican.
No one will boycott a Tom Hanks film because of said actor's political ideology........He plays decent men in his movies, and his public utterances do not subvert his persona.........But you never know until the will is probated who these people really are. They are, after all, actors.
There is no chance Tom hanks will ever vote for Trump. He has too many friends in Hollywood that would hate on him for it.
However, this is about the best statement you're going to get. It's not negative and it's perfectly non committal.
Good for him. I can keep watching his films without feeling dirty.
Hoffman: Don't go "Boy Scout" on me. We don't have a rule book, here.
Hanks: You're Agent Hoffman, yeah?
Horrman: Yeah.
Hanks: German extraction.
Hoffman: Yeah, so?
Hanks: My name's Donovan. Irish. Both sides, mother and father. I'm Irish, you're German. But what makes us both Americans? Just one thing. One, one, one. The rule book. We call it the Constitution... and we agree to the rules, and that's what makes us Americans. It's all that makes us Americans
He tried to offer comfort to lefties that are still making pee pee in their pants but what he gave them was not what they wanted to hear.
Hey, a little touch of class; nice!
Republicans buy movie tickets, too. Smart play.
Trump is in good health, has good longevity genes so I think he will be successful and will be a two term president. I hope.
Winners do a second term. Ask Teddy Roosevelt why.
Trump will stand his ground for a full 8 years, Secret Service protection willing.
"We can always turn to films, from no matter what era they were made in, to reflect who we are and how we believe and the things we hold dear and important to us."
Bullshit.
Hanks seems like a good man, but the film industry has been making this self-serving claim for years. The only people who promote it are the people with a vested interest in promoting it.
How many recent films can you name that "reflect who we are and how we believe and the things we hold dear and important to us"...?
Who in Hollywood is 1. interested and 2. qualified to do that? With a few exceptions, movies are escapist entertainment, made to make wealthy people more wealthy. I accept that. But 'we turn to film in a time of tragedy' - such as an election the industry didn't like - is self-serving pablum. Sorry, Tom.
I think Rock Hudson's acting abilities were vastly underrated........I saw the Hanks film, Bridge of Spies. The movie took note of the anti-Commnist hysteria and the Rosenberg trial. The movie does not, however, take note of the fact that Gary Powers' plane was shot down with a proximity fuse. Proximity fuses were one of those secrets betrayed by the Rosenberg ring. Hollywood presents a skewed history of those times.........Morton Sobel was convicted of espionage. He protested his innocence and his case became a cause celebre. Bertrand Russell spoke out on his behalf. At the end of his life, Sobel admitted that he had, in fact, been a spy. He said that he did not want his children and grandchildren to go through life defending a lie made on behalf of a bankrupt tyranny. In this, he showed a certain amount of integrity and decency. It would make an interesting biopic, and Hanks would be a natural fit for the role......I'm sure many screenwriters and producers are working on a treatment of the Morton Sobel story. Sarc/on.
Hanks is pretty much a class act. I have read a few books on making movies, including "The Devil's Candy" about the movie "Bonfire of the Vanities."
Hanks was described as a pretty nice guy. Bruce Willis was not.
I do too.
Nice to see someone in Hollywood behaving like an adult for a change.
While real men don't hold grudges I'll agree, I posit also real men kill men who force donkey sex on Mexican girls.
And the drugs.

Tom Hanks will never know his Redeemer liveth, even though even now I tell him it is so.
Love the comments by Hanks. What a classy guy. If we graded Hollywood on a curve, Jeez, he'd be like Churchill!
@William above notes some important details about "Bridge of Spies" and the communist spy ring in the US, and how they helped the Soviet Union kill millions.
All true, William.
But, again, I am grading Hollywood on a curve.
In Bridge of Spies, there is a scene, where Hanks is on train going thru East Berlin, and watches in horror as a Stasi Guard shoots a man trying to flee over the Berlin Wall to the side of freedom.
That one fleeting scene makes Hanks, and to some extent, Spielberg, heroes in my eyes.
And Hanks is from the Bay Area to boot! (Skyline High School, Oakland)
That's basically what I said when he won, that he should govern in a manner that would make me pleased to vote for him in 2020. That's also basically what I said when Obama was first elected although I figured in that case the odds were stacked against it and he would probably turn out just as I expected him to turn out which he did. Here's to better luck this time.
"We can somehow just sample what makes us a nation and what makes us a people by paying a few dollars and going to a movie theater or by paying a few dollars to go into a place like MoMA," continued Hanks. "We can turn on our televisions right now and see extraordinary films that somehow, whether or not they were made in the last year or they were made in the 1930s, reflect — we see ourselves up on the screen. Sometimes we’re Barbara Stanwyck in an old Preston Sturges film. Other times we’re Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America. There's aspects of all of us in those films."
I think that he either meant “Christopher Evans in Captain America” or “Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man.”
Other than this minor nit, good speech!
Hahhhhhhh! What a great Relief to hear a good sane man deep in the world of the brownshirts cheerfully coaxing them away from their Badditude.
thank you, mr. hanks!

thank you, mr. hanks!
a double hitter from me? how did i do that? hahahhhhh!!
Mr. Hanks and his wife, Ms. Wilson, have already had to deal with much worse than the outcome of a presidential election. Their faith carried them through that. Their faith will carry them through whatever comes next.
God bless Mr. Hanks and Ms. Wilson.

There is already a considerable amount of blacklisting going on in Hollywood based on political bias. But, of course, it doesn't get the media attention the way the HUAC blacklists did. Wonder why? [eye roll]
Whether Trump, or any other president, does a "good" or "bad" job depends on one's political philosophy. I'm pro-freedom, so a present who, in the main, reduces statism and expands individual liberty, is doing a good job. For "liberals" (and by "liberal" I mean of course "tax-happy, coercion-addicted, power-tripping government sniffer and State humper"), the reverse would be true.
If figures like Tom Hanks can turn around than a lot of others in Hollywood can too. A detente? We need a Hollywood Gorbachev to step up to the plate.
Of course once Donald Trump starts mass deportations of illegal aliens that's when we'll really know.
Hank knows that a good portion of his audience are right-wingers. He won't say anything to piss off his fans even though he is quite left in his thinking from what I have seen.
So has anyone heard if lena dunham has started packing? I am free this weekend to help, if she needs some assisance...
Robert Downey Jr. was in the last Captain America film, so he may not be confused.
So has anyone heard if lena dunham has started packing?
She's at a resort in Sedona, AZ. Not sure if she's decided she's not leaving or if she doesn't know Sedona isn't in Canada.
What about Whoopi? She's supposed to leave, too! And Cher! We should hold them to their promises.
"We call it the Constitution... and we agree to the rules, and that's what makes us Americans. It's all that makes us Americans"
That document is, like, over a hundred years old, Dude.

Trump won't run a second term.

We shall see. You may be right, because I think that thought is in his head. I remember at his victory speech he was making some remarks about his wishes to have a good year two years, more... and then he says maybe 8 years, and he looked at Mike Pence and Mike Pence smiled and nodded.
I'm pretty sure that was one of Mike Pence's early lessons to Donald Trump, that if you don't at least portray that you're going to be a two-term president, you give up a lot of juice, you become a lame duck at once.
So Donald is smart enough not to say that he's only going to run one time, but he may only one run one time. But I suppose it depends how he feels and how things go.
It doesn't matter he will never vote for Trump. It's still the right attitude.
If I were an agent/publicist, I'd demand my clients not discuss a word about any political story whatsoever unless it involves supporting the US in case of an attack upon us. Otherwise, there are two sides, you want both in your audience, and alienating one of them is just stupid.
"In the 1998 Oscars, I found myself in the bathroom in a stall, next to Tom Selleck. So I leaned over and I said ‘looks like we’re a couple of peeing Toms.’ His angry silence is something I’ll never forget. ”
— Awesome Oscar anecdote from Tom Hanks.
