"Doris Day, who I know a little bit, once said to me, 'Age is an illusion.'"

"I reminded her of it recently – I was wishing her a happy birthday. People say age is a number. It's a big number the older you get. But if it doesn't interfere, I'm not bothered. You can ignore it. That's what I do."

Said Paul McCartney.

Doris day is 92.

I've seen picture of a Doris Day fairly recently, and sorry, but she's grown old. I think its sad that time does harsh things to our bodies, but life has its own progression. The Bible tells us that there is a time for everything including being young and being old And as I progress through it, it seems that the best way to handle life is to take her as she comes - enjoy and embrace each stage for what it is.

Prends la vie comme elle vient.

Rolling Stone should stick to interviews with Musicians. I always enjoy reading them.

The other stuff they do that dips into politics? It's horrible.

Age sucks. We should invade Aman and seize immortality from the Valar.

Doris Day: may she enjoy her birthday and know that she brought pleasure into the lives of many, many people. That's no small thing. And one of the most underrated singers ever.

Rock stars. Is there anything they don't know?

But if it doesn't interfere, I'm not bothered.

That pretty much applies to just about everything.

The ageing of generation boomer is cringeworthy, as it must be for a movement that defined itself with "never trust anyone over 30." The cavalcade of commercials for sex enhancement pills and sexy, form fitting diapers on every newscast says it all. Boomers are like the clown that stayed too long at the party.

I think the Drudge headline is misleading. The youth shortage is only in the civilized western nations. The muslim countries continue to produce.

I just read her bio on wiki. Her sunny persona is not a sham so much as a triumph. She had four failed marriages, her only child died at a relatively young age, and her lawyer was exraordinarily dishonest in his dealings with her. She had a right to sing the blues, but her voice and her choice of material is extremely life affirming. There's a warmth and a kindness to voice that age did not diminish. She released a top 100 album with new material when she was 89. .......She's kind of a nut with animals, but who can blame her. A lot of her most intimate relations betrayed her. Dogs don't let you down the way people do.

Will you still need me. will you still feed me when I'm 64?
Been singing that song at a lot of birthday parties the past
few years. I liked it more when it was conjectural. Now you get
a lot of old people with a dazed look trying to remember what
album it was on.

Boomers are like the clown that stayed too long at the party.

Millennials are like the fetuses that should have been slaughtered in their wombs, as a mercy to the rest of the world.

Gen Xers are losers, pure and simple.

Just wait and see what's it like when you get old ...

Oh, wait, you pathetic whining spineless dumbass millennial/Gen-X snowflakes are never going to get old ... you'll be immature forever, living in your parents' basements long after they're dead, with their mummified corpses propped up next to you, so you can blame them for your manifold failures at living useful, productive lives.

This will not be the case in Egypt nor most other Muslim countries.

That she did. A wonderful singer and actress too.

Age is an illusion? Who knew. I guess it just joined gender, which anyone recently attending university will surely tell you is an even greater illusion. That view of life may come more easily to those in the entertainment business, like Sir Paul, for whom the confusion between waking and dreaming is par for the course. Perhaps it was an interesting idea when Calderon wrote a play based on that idea 400 years ago. As ideas go, it hasn't aged all that well, but no doubt that's just an illusion too.

Sebastian म्हणाले...

"You can ignore it. That's what I do." Age may be an illusion, but the old sure need a lot of my money to keep it up.

"Even tho' I know it's only
Me and my dreams
That drive me so let me go please
Let me go onto tomorrow
One day at a time
Now I know the only foe is time
22,000 days, 22,000 days it's not a lot,
It's all you got 22,000 days
22,000 nights, 22,000 nights, it's all you know..."

22,000 Days from Moody Blues album Long Distance Voyager

That's all we get, so make the best of it. I would prefer 30,000, but that still only gives me 5000 days to go.

And I still waste so much of it.

92 is not a boomer. Sad to see the middle age women needing diapers.

People growing old as individuals is mere life. Societies growing old is called "decline."

First there is decline in the growth rate of population. Soon it leads to absolute population decline. This will have all sorts of implications/impacts on a society. I don't know if it's ever happened before, perhaps/probably during the Black Plague. I have seen theories that population decline due to the black plague was an impetus for the beginning of capitalism, the Enlightenment, modernism, etc. I don't know if i believe that, but it may have been one of the causes for the Great Leap to Modernity. Although, there was, IIRC, a great population decline after the fall of the Roman Empire, which led to the "Dark Ages," so maybe the effects of pop decline are not necessarily predictable.

Eventually, if population decline were to get real serious, it would necessarily lead to societal suicide. Or possibly (more likely given our Statist nature?) to State-run control of ("sustainable!") human reproduction, which in this day and coming age would inevitably be accompanied by eugenics/genetic engineering, and probably some form of bionic super-human building and/or other sci-fi shit as yet undreamt of. Or it may just lead to "sustainable stagnation." I don't know. I do think it would make an interesting sociology dissertation.

BTW, I have also read that in some countries today, where "only-childism" is becoming the norm (e.g., Italy)--when there is a child born to a couple at all, when there are couples at all--they are losing the words for "aunt", "uncle", "cousin" and so forth. It begins slowly, but picks up steam with each new generation. It is simple economics' impact on linguistics: children once were labor assets, now they are significant liabilities. Sometimes children are worth it though. Sometimes though... Meanwhile, speaking of societal suicide, we're also slowly/quickly losing the term for "Father" in certain quarters these days, and it is spreading.

Interesting times.

I'm sure it will all turn out all right.

I just love the way the GenX/millenials disrespect the Boomers, who gave them life, nourished their nasty little bodies and paid for their college. As Shakespeare's King Lear, said, "How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child! Away, away!"
