Thank God we've passed the solstice and are headed toward longer nights.

The customary insect would have to be a Japanese Beetle, so I'm glad it's not there.

this recent set of pics is spectacular

Last year I had chard up to my eyeballs. This year its all struggling.
I just don't know anymore.
At least the new tarragon is flourishing.

Fred - It's anthropogenic climate change, man. What else could it be?

Fred Drinkwater म्हणाले...

Aphids.

Fred Drinkwater म्हणाले...

Three inch long, radiation -hardened, befanged.
But still just aphids, ya know?
I blame Cory Lewandowski.

ACC/GW. Clear case.

Deb म्हणाले...

May I ask what camera you used for these shots?

This morning, I awoke before my alarm went off at 4:45. I guessed the time as 4:40. I reached for my phone, which doubles as my alarm clock: 4:40 on the dot. Weird...

I was talking about Trump with someone and we were getting onto the topic of formerly disengaged citizens possibly becoming interested in this election because of Trump.

I said,"For example, a lot of blue collar workers..."

The other person interrupted, "Yes! All the stupid people..."

"What? No, no, no. I'm not talking about stupid people. I'm talking about blue collar workers."

"Yeah, stupid people..."

"No, not stupid people! Blue collar workers whose wages are depressed by illegal immigration."

"Oh. Well, they blame immigration because they're stupid."

Bah.

I think Rep. Gwen Moore's bill to force the top 1% to have clean drug screens before accepting government benefits is pretty good political theater, as far as those things go. If it were extended to Congress, it would be even better.

(It's about time she did something).

Geez, MM, tax deductions are not "government benefits".

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Just received two political poll calls back-to-back. The second one was testing Tim Kaine, Gavin Newsome, and Corey Booker as VP candidates.

The guy asking the question couldn't pronounce Newt Gingrich's name. He was 24.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

The other poll wanted to know if a major military figure came out and endorsed either Hillary or Trump if it would sway my vote.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

@Original Mike -- the government decides who gets them. How do they not benefit the person who gets them? Your argument is with semantics.

I recognize that the money is not the Government's to begin with -- yet you've been taxed and have to pay the tax, minus deductions. If you have a higher "refund" (percentagewise) simply because you've made more money and have more deductions -- why shouldn't you have to prove your worth to get it? Or just take the standard deduction and be done with it.

As I say, it's an interesting bit of political theater from someone who normally does diddly squat (And I'll say the picture of her with the article is a bit alarming.) I suspect this will seal the deal for her re-election, unfortunately. Thank you Republican Legislature for making Incumbent-favoring districts.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

And why are you answering the phone from a blocked number!!?

A couple weeks ago I made the mistake of answering an unknown phone number, but it was from the area code where my son lives. It was a fund raiser from his college.

(sigh)

As if paying out-of-state tuition isn't enough.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

we dont have caller id

Original Mike म्हणाले...

I understand how tax deductions work, and I favor a complete overhaul of the tax system eliminating virtually all deductions (I would allow deductions for medical expenses), but it is not semantices. It's not Gwen Moore's freakin' money.

As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death's twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.

I want to talk Wise Latina. The Wise Latina announced, some while back, that as a Wise Latina, she had judicial insights denied to her (perhaps) equally Wise but decidedly non-Latin (nor -a) fellow justices. Many of us had a good laugh at this, we supposed at her expense.

But the worm is a-turning, and the Wise Latina has proven her point in her recent dissent. She has pointed out, to legal scholars everywhere, that perhaps in a monoracial society, race is irrelevant. But in a multi-racial society, everything *but* race is irrelevant. It all boils down to Whose Wise Brown Ox is gored.

How Now, Wise Brown Cow?

Jupiter म्हणाले...

Don't get me wrong, I hate the ignorant slut, and I hope she's dying of cancer. But as a practical matter, she is entirely correct. With people like her on the Supreme Court, La Raza = La Ley. And it behooves those of us who didn't have the Wisdom to be members of La Raza to stop placing any reliance on Las Leyes.

Freeman:
How about "That's right, the stupid blue collar people. Like the guy who installed that 220 volt 80 amp fast charger for your Tesla. In your garage. Where, since it was installed by a stupid person, it is right now burning your pretty house down while your kids are asleep."

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

Fred, I'm sure you'll be totally shocked to learn that I was talking to a Hillary supporter. Heh.
