"The hacktivist group Anonymous, engaged in electronic warfare against Islamic State, has declared ‘total war’ on the terror group following the deadly attacks in France..."

"... while pledging to hunt down every single supporter of the jihadist group online... The combat mission to root out terrorism propaganda and recruitment networks from the internet was announced via a YouTube video, where a spokesman wearing the group’s symbol – the iconic Guy Fawkes mask – promised to 'launch the biggest operation ever' against Islamic State...."

Aren't our intelligence people already doing this?

Because hacking people who want to return to the 7th century always works.

The communications of those who would do us harm just got harder. This should be a good thing.

I actually approve. This is an important and interesting move for them. I wonder if one of their own was killed.

While I understand snark, you guys might want to celebrate this if they act on this.

If Anonymous were composed of men with real skills instead of juiced up adolescents with skillz, they would just get on with their operations with as much secrecy as they could muster instead of boasting on Youtube behind absurd masks. The typical Anonymous wanker is a techno-savvy silverback who from time to time likes to beat his chest in the vain hope he'll finally score with a chick whose waist measurements are actually smaller than his.

On Anonymous, nobody knows that you're living in your parents' basement.

Why doesn't the CIA, DIA and NSA do this?
We are, after all, paying them?

Sounds good in theory, but Anonymous is liable to falsely accuse some people of being terrorists and then deny responsibility for their mistakes because, aw shucks, they are just a hacker collective. They are quite reckless.

Smart people won't submit to the drug testing, background checks, stultifying atmosphere and other insults endured by a person who works for them. Same holds for the military contractors, so don't sell China stock short.

This is nothing new for Anonymous. After the Charlie Hedbo attacks, they made a similar annoucement.

Hey, I approve of the Army of Davids approach. If they can do something useful, then I say go do it.

They remind me of those gangsters in old war movies. Sure, they're a bunch of murdering criminals, but they were Americans, dammit, and weren't gonna let no Nazi scum get away with nuttin' in their city.

We'll see. Or, we probably won't.
