I noticed that SAE is the second ranked Fraternity on campus at UW-Madison. But do they also blackball blacks?
SAE brags about being ia top level social exclusion elite fraternity. They even turned me down, and gave bids to two of my friends from high Schooll.
That made them a relatively small and exclusive group in return for an elite image. I could never do elite very well, but instead enjoyed being a Phi Delta Theta, as did my son after me.
I'm picturing my unique and lovely antique English Seahawk sailboat (the only one in North America) beating down wind across Lake Mendota in July as a stopover before I hit Ashland to place a surfboard fin on the Grave of Tom Blake as tribute and then harbouring at and sailing the Apostle Isles in the summer of '16. Sailing Lake Champlain out of Burlington, Vermont was a wonderful experience. It's a college town much like Madison though on a bigger and historic lake. I love harbouring my Seahawk for a month at a time around America. This year Charleston Harbour for the month of May and Rockport, Maine in July. Funnnnnnnnn.
I see that Barack Obama is complaining that it's easier to buy a gun than a vegetable in "certain neighborhoods."
The funny thing is, Washington, DC, is littered with those sorts of neighborhoods, however those neighborhoods do have grocery stores, but there are no gun stores anywhere in the city.
Just met my biological "great cousin" online. My grandfather and her grandmother were siblings. She and I are now friends on facebook and will continue a correspondence. She's providing history info on the great grandparents and their heritage. My adoptive great cousins are a lil protective, but understand how exciting this is for me.

For anyone who wonders why a State like Arizona passes a law like SB1070, look no further.
"Footage released by the Pinal County Sheriff's Office over the weekend shows the suspects, Mario Perez-Paz, 43, and Juan Aguilar-Zavala, 21, throwing the pot bales from their truck on Interstate 10 in Casa Grande while traveling at speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The U.S. Border Patrol said their arrest led to a "drop house" in Mesa, where authorities found 20 Guatemalan and Mexican immigrants who were in the country illegally."
Watch the video; that's a lot of money being thrown out of the SUV.
I see that James "The Talking Skull" Carville has set out to defend Hillary Clinton's Email.
"It wasn't illegal! It wasn't against regulations!"
No, Skull, it was stupid beyond belief, potentially -- make that almost certainly -- exposing sensitive diplomatic information to anyone who can hack a poorly secured Email server.
And thanks for reminding us that along with Hillary, we'd get back the likes of you and Lanny Davis.
Has Hillary's personal server been adequately secured since the news broke? If not, then I imagine scores of capable hackers have gone to work on her email accounts, if it all hasn't already been compromised.

The world needs to prepare itself for a rapid increase in the speed of climate change, scientists have warned. US researchers claim that the fast onset of global warming is set to alter the way people live, even over short time scales. This is according to new evidence which suggests the rate at which temperatures are rising in the northern hemisphere could be 0.25°C per decade by 2020 - a level not seen for at least 1,000 years. The analysis, based on a combination of data from more than two dozen climate simulation models from around the world,
So the climate models that are all wrong constitute "evidence."
I really don't want to be a skeptic, but they force it on you.
Why are we picking on SAE fraternity about the act of blackballing anybody. Greek frats more likely to blackball blacks include Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, or Kappa Alpha Psi.
As for Sex Above Everything, it only takes one anonymous member to blackball the only black pledge - but the entire membership is free to join in during the singing of nasty songs that have even been known to blaspheme majority-status sorority sisters.
I must be sick. Since 2009, I have been down. I lost joy in life. Then suddenly, since last week, my life has turned around. The time change and now the HRC emails. I am just so happy that I do not have desire to sleep, eat, etc. I am just so happy.
I was even sad during Benghazi. For two reasons. For losing good Americans and American pride. But, also for the fact that HRC, Susan Rice, and Samantha Power got away with their incompetence.
As a life-long feminist, you know how much I want a female GOP VP, I am just disappointed that HRC, Rice, and Power got away in Benghazi crisis. I wanted them to pay for their incompetence.
But, let bygones be bygones.
Now. I hope Rep. Gowdy takes apart piece by piece the HRC team. 24/7. I hope he scares the living daylights of her team.
GOP, do not screw up. No over reach. No race baiting. No gender baiting. Just focus on HRC lack of actual experience and her repeated incompetence.
If Walker is the nominee, I hope Martinez or Ayotte is the VP. You knew that already!
Yes, Drill Sgt. I art a Phi... At Georgia Beta, class of 1967. Incidentally, the chapter was recently closed for four years for hazing pledges.
The SAE House was next door with its often painted lion.
SAE recruited mainly from the rich social elites children from Atlanta, but Phi Delt was twice the size and had a big Miami/Coral Gables contingent, and a big Northeastern out of state contingent, mixed with prominent elites from the smaller Georgia cities. Medical School was the draw.
Thirty years later at TCU campus in Fort Worth the Phi Delts were all children of elites at something, if you include rich ranch owner families.
And the Fort Worth elites did call Atlanta NiggerTown in a competitive put down. And Gov. Perry, who was a Texas A&M cheerleader, had guests visit at his appropriatly named hunting lodge.
The last time I mentioned that word usage 5 or 6 Texans challenged me in the comments saying that they had never heard that word used in all their lives. Well they must not have been fellow shipping with the elites in Texas.
I am now 60 years old and was a live-in member of a fraternity from age 18 to age 22. My fraternity, probably all of them, have a code of ethics and teach members to live lives of good character. I made lifelong friends there where we provided for our own housing, food service, and social events. We challenged each other to finish boring homework. I still return to the values I was taught there to improve my life.
However, when we were college age we did all kinds of inappropriate things we now regret. We had little impulse control and tons of energy. We sang all kinds of stupid songs--we would harmonize on any song someone started. We saw the fellowship of singing together and thought little of how a song might be perceived by anyone else--they were not in our world and usually no one could hear us anyway.
This fraternity in the news should suffer a punishment, but let the guys grow up after that. I am glad cell phone video did not exist 40 years ago. At a recent reunion we were discussing some of the stupid things we did. One member said that we could have been arrested for the pranks we pulled, and in fact, 3 members did get arrested when about a dozen of us moved a stranger's Volkswagen from the street up onto a lawn just to see if we could really pick it up. Three of us ran too slowly.
The discussion in Boston is the $7500 a day cost of Frm. Governor Decal Patrick (left office last month). Paid by the Olympic Committee, but eventually tax payers will have to pay up if Boston is chosen for the Olympics.
"Personally, I don't care, I am just trying to understand how this whole 'precedent' thing works."
To be within the "Sullivan precedent," I would first need to hire a bunch of other people to work on this website with me, thus creating a need to an income stream adequate to keep up the payroll. That's never going to happen. So even assuming the Sullivan precedent has binding effect that I am willing to scrupulously adhere to, it will never be the cause of the end of this blog, because the precedent will never apply.
A simple "no" would have been sufficient...and appropriate.
You wouldn't be caught dead engaging in financial transparency. I know that. You know that. Why the need for a windy apologia, except to obfuscate this simple truth?
You insult our Hostess. She is entirely capable of defending her own honor, should she choose.
My response to your questions is:
1.) Grow some irony-detecting sensors, if you must read my comments. The intended audience for my remarks did not include you, and she understood what I meant just fine.
2.) You hallucinate too much. I never indicated any disapproval of any person feathering her own nest. And I never would, since it's the American Way, and I am more American than apple pie.
3.) Notice how Ms. Althouse addresses her response, not to the commenter who asked her a simple question, but to a commenter who has butted in to belch some irrelevancies. Any port in a storm, eh, Ms. Althouse?
Why drag a third party into a quite informal conversation? What makes her so defensive, do you think? Is she incapable of directness? That would be a serious flaw in a writer, it would seem to me.

Drill Sgt and traditionalguy are proud Phi Delts. Is there a coincidence that UPenn's Phi Delta Theta chapter was investigated by the Ivy League for their Christmas card which featured a blow-up black sex doll named Beyoncé and (gasp) photos of Robert E Lee and J.E.B. Stuart.
That was last December and the Chapter is still operating and no one has been expelledas best I can determine.

Questions arising from noticing Althouse's subscription solicitation.
1.) Will the Blogger follow the Sullivan Precedent, and publish a record of total subscriptions and gross revenue?
2.) Is prolificity a desirable quality for writing in a self-published editorial format?

Will the Blogger follow the Sullivan Precedent
So if one out of a million bloggers does something it is a precedent? What about the precedents of all the people who didn't do it?
Personally, I don't care, I am just trying to understand how this whole "precedent" thing works.
What subscription solicitation?
Many solicitations are easy to ignore.

Regarding the photo: Phase change in progress. Energy creates disorder.
The SAE mother chapter was founded at the University of Alabama, and is still there. I am surprised you even allow them on your campus in Wisconsin.
