"Investigative reporter Ken Silverstein has resigned from First Look Media’s The Intercept after 14 months..."

"... saying he and others were hired 'under what were essentially false pretenses [by being] told we would be given all the financial and other support we needed to do independent, inter important journalism, but instead found ourselves blocked at every step of the way by management’s incompetence and bad faith.'"

The comments at his post are not exactly sympathetic.

If I were his editor I would say "Examples?"

"after the company forced Matt Taibbi to resign — and they left him no choice "

At least they had some judgement.

Surprise, surprise. Rich Persians are control freaks who use money to control people. What else do you use wealth for?

I skimmed looking for some subject/article in which he was thwarted from publishing.

Wiki indicates that he and his writing partner were widely criticized for their poor comprehension of the case facts, controversial editorializing and their failure to fact-check which later resulted in three corrections

But then who the heck knows what motivated that critique.

Your next boss, in the interview where you trash the previous boss, is thinking that you'll be doing this to him too.

Always say how much you loved your old job environment.

Who is Ken Silverstein? What is "First Look Media"? Should I care about this any more than I care about who is writing for the Podunk Gazette?

It's the media operation that involves Glenn Greenwald. It was supposed to be something significant and different.

I know. It's very weird that he's going public like this but not substantiating his statements. But then, he's an investigative reporter, so maybe he'll ply his trade against them.

Ultra-rich guys who own media organs as money losing tax write-offs/vanity projects doesn't seem to be working out as a business model for the press.

Big Mike म्हणाले...

@Althouse, my impression of Glenn Greenwald is that he's incompletely sane.

Sounds promising!

Oh. Guess not.

I've never heard of Ken Silverstein, but Glenn Greenwald is one of the few liberals I respect (read: doesn't base his opinions on which argument helps the Democrats), so I would like some examples as well.

@David: The comments at his post are not exactly sympathetic.

I didn't read his original post, but I don't know how sympathetic I would have been, either. For somebody who says he has a child in college, the tone of his writing sounds like he's still in college himself.

Thought for today: Beware of doing business with Khans. They only come to rule over you.

Sam L. म्हणाले...

I'd never heard of it, but if I had, and knew Glen Greenwald was in it, I'd have had no respect for them/it.

Theranter म्हणाले...

No substantiation because when you face off with the big boys (like these:http://fellows.ashoka.org/node/13145 (Odimar's run in this circle)) you are allowed a little face-saving as Silverstein just attempted to do, but you only support it with facts and/docs at your own peril.

Chris N म्हणाले...

Perhaps, one should fear the wrath of Khans.

Disgruntled employee rant. I don't have much use for Glen Greenwald et al. but I do know that former employees crying about having to work and follow orders is the oldest story in the world.

If it's so bad, quit. Move on.

If the Racket is badly managed, it will show in the product. I don't care at all about the staff. That's their problem.
