Meade makes the news: "Dog-sharing leads to Puparazzo blog."

By Samara Kalk Derby in the Wisconsin State Journal. Excerpt:
When someone left the neighbors' gate open, Zeus wandered into Meade's backyard. Meade invited him inside, and with tail wagging, Zeus got a tour of the place. Eventually, Meade led him back to the neighbors, who with two little kids and another on the way, didn't notice he was missing.

Zeus has been coming over to visit pretty much every day since. And when Zeus' owners, Raj Shukla and Tora Frank, go out of town, Meade and Althouse take care of him. Meade has even taken Zeus paddleboarding.

"Laurence is really the person at the center of our dog's life," Shukla said. "(Zeus) loves us... I guess. He would probably save us if we were in trouble -- probably. But we know where he wants to go most days. And it's to be with Laurence.... We were never sure, is he going to the park, or are they just binging on bacon?" Shukla said laughing. "What is it that is causing this deep affection? But it turns out it's both."

Nice story.

I still like Dogging Meade, though I know why the name change happened.

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

Long ago I stated, in these threads, that Meade should be a dog walker. I suggested that he would be a cool, energetic dog walker who frolics with the dogs.

It goes w/o saying that I was right.

Anywho, I wonder if Althouse agrees that she's a "blogger, law prof." Or, would she prefer being a law prof, blogger.

Being a law prof, since it pays the bills should be top billing. But, it didn't get her hitched.

Slow news day?

Seriously: well done, Meade.

Birches म्हणाले...

Most people would kill for a 200 hit/day blog.

(Laugh) I love the owner's comment: Zeus love us....I guess

Great story.

I think the name Puparazzo (I hope that was Meade's contribution) was half the reason for this article and the other half is Althouse. But really, it is Zeus who deserves major credit. Without Zeus, there is no article.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"and the other half is Althouse"

I had nothing to do with the journalist's interest in Meade's blog.

If the dog's life expectency is smaller than yours, get the dog.

If not, get an older dog.

Meade म्हणाले...

Thanks, everyone! The human guardian of one of my friends at the dog park contacted Samara to tell her about me and Zeus. Samara wrote a very nice story I think. Lots of fun.

Thank God you're off (for the time being?) your flibbertigibbet defense of Feminism & guys Don't get it stuff.

Did you hear about the logo on Wendy Davis' pink sneakers?

You don't have to do anything. Now a good portion of your 30K visitors are looking at that journalist's article. It is a good story, our own Meade making the big print.

Related in an oblique way to that idea of influence and traffic, there is a measure called Klout. Check out the comments lamenting their dip in their scores.

Way to go Meade!

Thnx, sunsong.

Yup...nice site. Could use some more adventures. Nice to see Zeus' ass and tail out on point in some of the Althouse blog "Cafe" postings.

This is what we think about the current situation.

Raj Shukla certainly has a good and sneaky sense of humor about this, and a mindset we all hope for in a neighbor.

And not a work about Walker or Burke. Yaaay!

Of course this was in the traditional "Republican" newspaper and not the "D" one -- The Capital Times. Or heaven forbid -- The Isthmus.

Mr. Irene म्हणाले...

Kudos, Meade, on the fine blog and the excellent spotlight the article deservedly affords! As we know in our family, you are pursuing a high calling! Canine affection and wisdom runs deep.

The Godfather म्हणाले...

We have two dogs. I argued against getting each one. I said they'd be a pain in the a*s, and interfere with our travel plans, etc. My wife insisted. So we have a 6-year old lab-pointer mix and a 9-month old standard dachshund. They're a pain in the a*s, and interfere with our travel plans, but I love them both. Can you imagine what it's like to try to walk two dogs like that?

Two dogs have died in my arms, one when I was 14, one when I was 45. Both broke my heart. If I live long enough (and the actuarial tables say I'm likely to), I'll be with Hailey and Ginger when they die, and that will break my heart, each time.

Why do we have dogs?
Meade would understand.

Meade is outstanding in his field of photography of dog's at play. Seriously, it is a very well done and valuable art. Landscape Design is also a valuable art that your homestead has benefited from.

gadfly म्हणाले...

I think that Freeman is confused. Meade cannot be the Mad City Mayor because he didn't organize students against the military occupation of the Madison campus which eventually led to the bombing of Sterling Hall.

And although it has been pointed out that he spends a great deal of time in Colorado, it has not been trumpeted that he never found a recreational drug he didn't like.

So he simply is unqualified to run. Besides the blog readers at The Isthmus don't like him.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

We recently had a post on a woman who only slept with married men. Now we have Meade, 'having fun' with other families' dogs. Does he not realize the harm he can be causing in these families' canine relationships? Will he drive these dogs inevitably to emotional 'divorces' from their families? Is it only about HIS wants and needs?

I don't use the term 'homewrecker' lightly; indeed, I usually save it for the guys with bulldozers who actually physically tear down houses. Nor do I wish to imply that Meade is having sex with dogs -- that is beside the point. It is the emotional neediness of the dogs that Meade is playing on, and -- if he is acting akin to a man offering candy to strange children in the park, except with bacon and dogs -- are we not, as a society, supposed to step in?

People, it is time to act: we may not know what that act may be yet, but that shouldn't prevent us from getting started -- I'm sure we will figure it out on the way...

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

With my my previous comment I do not want to imply that bestiality is ever acceptable, nor is sex with children in most circumstances: I think we can all agree on that.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

To clarify my previous comment: A really hot girl with great perky breasts and lucious lips who is only seventeen is still a child, people. At least for another year. Those breasts will stay great and perky and those lips will remain lucious over twelve months, so don't do anything stupid, even if it seems like the perfect opportunity and no one will know. You cannot use 'dog years' in this situation.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

To clarify my previous comment: a grown man should NOT be looking at a seventeen-year-old girl in THAT way, even if she has great and perky breasts and lucious lips. Unless that seventeen-year-old girl is a Hollywood actress and the role she is playing is meant to be 'hot': then it is Hollywood's fault.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

To clarify my previous comment: just because Hollywood sets up a seventeen-year-old actress with great and perky breasts and lucious lips to be seen as 'hot' does NOT make it okay to take advantage of her, even if you came across her by the side of Mulholland Drive and she said she wanted to make 'wild passionate love' to the first man in a convertible who would stop and pick her up for a ride. It is not your fault for driving a convertible, but that does not change what is right and wrong. Just drive by, that is my advice.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

To clarify my previous comment:I have no idea if Meade has access to a convertible, I don't know what he drives. besides, a convertible has nothing to do with dogs, other than I bet they like to ride in them and hang their head over the side with their ears flapping in the breeze and their tongue hanging out. So maybe it DOES have something to do with dogs: I am just thinking aloud.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

And no: I am not betamax3000.

Laslo Spatula म्हणाले...

To clarify a previous comment: I am not saying that sex with seventeen-year-old girls is only wrong if they have great and perky breasts and lucious lips. It is still wrong even if they are only mildly cute in a bookish way, or even homely, and you are only doing so out of altruistic benevolence to improve their self-confidence and low self-esteem. The law does not make for such distinctions. For better or worse.

dustbunny म्हणाले...

Nice story! I live in the countryside in Spain and often, dogs are treated badly. They are not regarded as companions but as farm animals. My husband talks to them and throws them treats and the owners laugh about the crazy American. I am thinking we should emulate Meade and ask to walk them. Meade's good will circles the globe.

अनामित म्हणाले...

@ Laslo: it is "luscious", not "lucious": as in 'Scarlett Johannson's pouty lips are luscious.' Carry on.

Also: congratulations, Meade!

Walked my daughter's doggy this morning. It was 35 degrees and raining.

Meade, there is a dog walking job here for you in NJ.

This is for AltMeadhouse the best of both worlds. Like having grandchildren: you get to play with them and spoil them, and then they go home.

I believe that dogs can see the "real you" and to be loved by a dog is proof of having a good heart.

So - good man, Meade!

Within the past week my 16 year old Akita/Shepherd mix passed away and have to admit I feel a little lost.

I may just borrow dogs from here out. Losing them or "sending them off" is too hard.
