A few days back there was a lengthy comment thread regarding a man using a "knee defender" to disable the recline feature of the seat in front of him.
It has now come to light that the man was seated in United's "economy plus" section. So he already had more legroom than regular coach. Rather than some poor guy "defending" his knees, this is looking more like someone with a my way or the highway attitude.
It is a glorious day. Four kids all going to school. My wife did the back to school dance.
Off to be conformists, observing the Sabbath.
Or not and refusing the ice bucket challenge on Friday and incurring the ire of the Catholic school mothers who tell her to think of others rather than just herself. And herself asking if pouring ice water over her head was necessary to be able to think about others who have ALS. And then asking on Sunday if she had to recite the Nicene Creed in unison with everyone else because it makes her feel uncomfortable chanting the same words with a large church full of adults.
"Stop passing notes back there." "We're not passing notes." "I saw you talking and passing notes just now." "If we were talking, why would we be passing notes?"
Thank goodness most high school teachers are extraordinarily patient.
I especially like passing notes as the schoolkid method of communication. If the teacher catches them, the note can be read. Unlike whispers. What are they talking about
Saw my daughter off for her first year of college over the weekend. The keynote speaker at the convocation gave a speech comparing the treatment of Native Americans to the Palistinian situation. The worse thing about it is that she got a standing ovation.
I think a good con law course should consider the limits between law enforcement and war with jihadists. Holder wants to prosecute the beheaders if he can.
The schoolkid hand-written note has the advantage over creating an electronic record if secrecy is the issue. No wailing over hacked servers or world-wide distribution of its naughty contents.
In worst-case situation, it can be eaten if the recipient is wiling to suffer the consequences and the unpleasant taste of a fine Wisconsin product (not the state dessert).
You can also disclaim authorship by contending that you are just passing the note -- a mule -- and don't know who the original author was.
Maybe the teacher reads it aloud, but much fewer embarrassing possibilities with the old-fashioned non-NSA snooped, non-hackable, non-traceable, non-forwardable handwritten note.
Eric Cantor, the former House Majority Leader, lost his old job in a stunning defeat to a Tea Party challenger in Virginia’s Republican primary earlier this year. The new gig he just landed is, well, less than stunning. Cantor, like many Washington insiders before him, is going to Wall Street. *** The bank disclosed in an SEC filing that it will pay Cantor a base salary of $400,000 as well as a signing bonus of $400,000 in cash and $1 million in restricted stock units that vest over five years. For 2015, Cantor will get at least $1.2 million in cash and $400,000 more in restricted stock.
After 37 years teaching Refugees and Immigrants I no longer reported to work to start a new school year. After 56 years this is first year since kindergarten that I am not in a school room in September. I'm on surfari to stay...

Yes, that is one of the many things wrong with the system as it exists today. Glenn Reynolds has an idea that may cut down on this type of graft
About women not knowing where their vagina is, tampon packages have diagrams showing where the vagina is. And they claim that men are the ones who don't read the directions.

Right now I'd be lecturing on x-ray imaging physics. I miss it a little (but not enough to actually do it anymore).
I'm going to be talking about observing the Sabbath.
We're on day 18 and week 5 out here......
Our schools offer more direction about note-passing.

The growing of a young mind is wonderful to see.
On Wisconsin. No Bar Exams needed for Wisconsin graduates after all they will have learned from Professor Althouse.

Looks quiet. Too quiet...
"Badgers need to learn how to finish a ballgame."
Andersen needs to learn he doesn't have a long-pass capability. You would have thought he would have learned that last year.
Good old (OLD) Randall Elementary.
Did your boys make tiles at the end of 5th grade? I understand they still do that. I'll have to go see, someday, if I can still find my kids' tiles.
The only thing Randall school meant to me was that the @&$%^# steep hill was right in front of my bicycle.
A school remembrance:
"Stop passing notes back there."
"We're not passing notes."
"I saw you talking and passing notes just now."
"If we were talking, why would we be passing notes?"

not a single word about appeals briefs in the 7th circuit. Guess that isn't interesting.

The kids are back in school. I'm happy.

Over half of women can't locate the vagina on a diagram that looks nothing like anything you can see.
This is not taken to show a problem with diagrams.
School will cover it when they get to cucumbers.

*sigh* 65 and still excited in the fall, looking forward to...well. H&R Block tax class will have to do.

Glad to see it's not just Democrats getting paid, though.
