Come on -- the alleged beater is from Janesville. I think he should be cut a break just for that reason alone.

If you look at the faces in Mexican hieroglyphics, then you pretty much know my Mexican brother-in-law.
He's a banker, and he is frequently greeted with "shalom". To which he responds "shalom".
Vile as the attack was, it's worth noting a few things:
The story has been picked up by mainstream news outlets all across Wisconsin.
If it had been a black guy punching out somebody for being white, there would be no coverage outside the city where it occurred--and probably not even there.
If it had been a leftist assaulting a Tea Party grandfather it would have been either ignored or spun in such a way as to cover up the ideology of the attacker.

Until we know what really happened we can only speculate. My first thought is "is it really possible that people from Wisconsin see so few Hispanics that they would mistake Hebrew for Spanish or take offense at the sound of Spanish?"
Something sounds fishy here.
The Huffpo headline is terribly biased.
Going by the police report, There is no reason to believe the assaulter was an American (let alone dumb), or that his victims were 'ethnic'.
Hebrew gets your attention since it is so foreign from Romance Languages often overheard. He could have just ask nicely.
I find the comments on the Huffington Post to be interesting. For no apparent reason at all, other than her own prejudices, a commenter states that she "bets he never misses a Sunday service."
My church does regular mission trips to Mexico where we help build houses, and guess what, Spanish language classes are conducted before the volunteers go.
Also, around here it is pretty common to see Evangelical and Charismatic churches advertise Spanish language services.
If you gotta hate on somebodies ethnicity, it would behoove you to know something about that ethnicity. Like what language they speak.
That's why in the south we hate everyone who doesn't talk like us...

Or act like us...
You get the picture.

An accidental assault? New to me. I always believe the targets may be mistaken, but assaults are deliberate.
The weirdest part of this story is there were actually 2 Hebrew speaking men in Janesville Wisconsin.
Why would anyone, let alone Hebrew speaking men, be in Janesville, Wisconsin. I guess it could of been worse and they could of been in Beloit.

It sounds like he hit them because they were not speaking English. The fact that he couldn't tell the difference between Spanish and Hebrew is an irrelevant curiosity. Funny, but not related to the attack.
Ralph, while I don't blame you for singling out that comment as it was hurtful to you personally, in terms of hate-filled stupidity, it does not stand out from most of the others. The Huffington Post is reliable cure for the mistaken belief (should you have one) that the political left isn't full of the vicious, the stupid, the ignorant, and the small minded, often rolled up into one ugly, irrational, unreasonable package.

I generally don't read the Huffington Post because I know that it will raise my blood pressure.
It's the smugness that gets to me, what in a religious context would be described as self-righteousness.
The utter certitude that they are among the elect and anyone who disagrees with them is damned.

They left out the important and vital piece of info -- a grad of Parker or Craig? I'll guess Parker.

It amazes me how liberals--unlike some "Dumb Americans"--consider themselves so worldly yet miss the fact that incidents such as these are far more common outside America. It's a combination of their ignorance and America-is-uniquely-guilty reflex.
Most of the world is astonishingly tribal. The efforts of the left would make the US increasingly so, leading to more of the types of events HuffPo Superusers decry. Remarkable.
Jeez, we just went over this at our Tuesday night white American oppressors meeting. When you beat someone up for speaking a foreign language, DON'T tell the cops why.
I would say that the pendejo should be sentenced to learn Spanish so that he'll know what it sounds like.
