"Now let us get this straight... We elected you to get the country out of economic and foreign policy troubles, and instead you made them worse?"

Meade writes a new caption for what he tells me is his favorite "Far Side" cartoon:

Hey, you voted for that idiot, own it.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Have you ever tried to hire a babysitter?

It's not easy.

JRoberts म्हणाले...

Larson's "Far Side" is one of the all time greats. Best of all, he was smart enough to step away before he became as dull and irrelevant as Gerry Trudeau.

Meade's right. This particular frame does a great job of summing up this horrible Administration. God help us to survive the next 3+ years.

Sorun म्हणाले...

No worries. Historians will make sure our first black president is remembered as one of the greatest ever. He won the Nobel Peace Prize, after all! I'm sure his portrait will appear on one of our future yuan notes.

That pic would be better if Rodham were Pres.

That one was good. This one is better.

Made the economy worse?

Hmm. Meade must not have a 401-K.

Joe Schmoe म्हणाले...

Here's one for the 'best and brightest' running the healthcare.gov site.

Henry म्हणाले...

Is that a pair of university spokespersons yelling at that witch?

RecChief म्हणाले...

I'm getting tired of saying "I told you so." Smart Power! Not just for Foreign Policy anymore. I read a story today that a journalist was arrested, and all of her records siezed as evidence. Apparently the pretext was something to do with weapons, but one of the arresting officers asked her if she was the one who had been writing about some government failing.

But nice job on the caption, Meade.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Economy? Bush's fault.

Seriously, I listened to a radio debate between a liberal and conservative this morning (On Mitch Henck's program, for you Madisonians). The reason for the moribund economy is the lack of government stimulus and the lack of regulations.

Rocketeer म्हणाले...

The reason for the moribund economy is the lack of government stimulus and the lack of regulations.

Only slightly related, but I was especially amused during the shutdown that the folks that told me $2 trillion was just not enough stimulus to get the economy moving, were screaming about how much that $24 billion "loss" S&P claimed could be attributed to the shutdown was dragging down the economy.

Wince म्हणाले...

'The Bernanke' wasn't "elected", and the resultant stock market bubble is the result of having to accommodate the destructive economic policy of the administration.

TosaGuy म्हणाले...

"Meade must not have a 401-K."

Those with assets have done very well under Obama. Those without, not so much.

Quite ironic considering how Obama claims to be for the little guy.

You really don't expect the next administration to be any better, do you?

How could it be? It will be the same administration as this one, (as this is the same as the one that preceded it), with different faces and names--a shuffling around of the seats on the deck of a ship that has already sunk to the bottom and is accumulating upon and unto itself the powdery detritus of death and decay drifting from above--a mere continuation of that which came before and is already terminal.

Heh. They all claim to be for the little guy.

Quantity is easier than quality. Let them enjoy their short-term returns. It's unfortunate that we will all be forced to share the table; but, that is life in a consensus-oriented society.

My favorite Far Side was posted in the ICU of our vet school teaching hospital (where we were learning, among other things, venipuncture.) it depicted a mosquito blown up like a balloon while biting a person's arm, and its companion was shouting, "Pull out! Pull out! You've hit an artery!"

I'm Full of Soup म्हणाले...

My alltime favorite was a panel where a car swerved off the street and onto the sidewalk and hit sevral pedestrians and the driver jumped out his car which had a very visible "I brake for animals" bumper sticker and he said "whew that was a close one!"

David म्हणाले...

He was elected to be our first black President. He has succeeded admirably.

sakredkow म्हणाले...

Okay okay. My favorite was two goldfish lying on the carpet outside of their bowl, which is oddly enough on fire. The one goldfish is saying to the other "Of course now we're equally screwed."

You might want to give to some one for safekeeping for awhile.

sakredkow म्हणाले...

ROFLMAO rehajm!

chickelit म्हणाले...

I cannot relate to Meade's caption because I never voted for Obama. I distinctly remember though that the economy and foreign affairs were never seriously considered as reasons to elect Obama: his inexperience was too plain. It was always about fairness and equality for all and suppressing the suppression of women. If anyone remembers differently, please speak up.

A better caption would be "Now let me get this straight... They elected him to make things more fair and equal, and instead he's making everyone else equally poorer?"

Smilin' Jack म्हणाले...

Does UW's Commissar of Diversity know that you're propagating this anti-Wiccan bigotry?

The school for the gifted panel. Kid pushing the out door. Nice had the tea shirt over 20 years, it's starting to fall apart.

chickelit म्हणाले...

According to "The Parable Of The Gas," true equality can only be achieved by cooling the economy.

FullMoon म्हणाले...

The one where a kid is trying to enter Midvale School for gifted by pushing on the door marked "pull".

LTMG म्हणाले...

The presidential portrait should be a blank canvas. In the future presidential library, the first slot for a book should wear the label, "See book in next slot." The next slot will wear the same label. The slot at the end of the shelf says, "See first book to the far left." The Obama presidency will go down in history as the Lost Presidency.

rehajm म्हणाले...

blah! blah! blah! Ginger! blah! blah! blah!

What Paul Ryan says...what Obama hears.

Robert Cook म्हणाले...

"A better caption would be 'Now let me get this straight... They elected him to make things more fair and equal, and instead he's making everyone else equally poorer?'"

But it lacks the sharp lance of truth; Obama is making richer those he was hired to make richer. The rest of us figure into the equation only insofar as it is our money that is further fattening the already fatted welfare queens of the 1%. We are supposed to become poorer.

Michelle Dulak Thomson म्हणाले...

Ditto, rehajm; ditto also, donald and FullMoon. Those are two of the best.

Two musical ones that are immortal:

One has Roger the cymbal player, about to play a cymbal clash, thinking "this time I won't screw up." He is holding only one cymbal. It's captioned "Roger screws up."

The other shows two players in the back of an orchestra. One, looking at the part, says to the other, "Gee, look at all the little black dots!"

Then there's "Welcome to Heaven; here's your harp"/"Welcome to Hell; here's your accordion." But I mustn't go on, or I won't stop.

Michelle Dulak Thomson म्हणाले...

CWJ: "Bummer of a birthmark, Hal." Another immortal!

Bruce Hayden म्हणाले...

You really don't expect the next administration to be any better, do you?

Depends on who wins, of course. Hillary! In particular wouldn't have done much better. But I expect that the next President will be a Republican, and if so, yes, I do expect things to get better.

Anyone who thinks that McCain, and esp Romney, would have done as badly with the economy buys into the wishful thinking of Krugman's brand of Keynesian economics. Unfortunately it failed in the 1930s, and has almost as badly under Obama. There was little, if any Republican support for the horrendously bad economic legislation passed during Obama's first term - notably ObamaCare and the "Stimulus" bills, built into the baseline by Harry Reid's refusal to pass a budget. Massive deficit funded fiscal spending, all predicated on the fallacy that we could spend our way out of the recession. Probably would have solidly been on the way out of the recession by the 2010 mid term elections if we hadn't had Cash for Clunkers, billions to favored solar, wind, and electric car companies, loosening up of food stamp requirements while reducing fraud detection, etc. I frankly can't think of much that Obama and the Dems did

So true.

If I were re-rewriting the caption, I'd rewrite it something more like:

"Now let me get this straight... you had no executive experience, less than one term as a senator, no real accomplishments, and we elected you president twice?"
