The concealed carry/open carry distinction in Wisconsin.

The gun rights activist wins a jury verdict..
The Milwaukee nursing student and firearms safety instructor made national news in 2010 when she was arrested after openly wearing her gun to a Brookfield church service. No formal charges were filed and Sutterfield later won a $7,500 settlement from the city on her false arrest claim.

The current case boiled down to Sutterfield's word against an officer's. Sutterfield testified that she wasn't concealing a weapon, but rather openly carrying, because her jacket was tucked behind her holster from the time she left home that night.
This is America, and we've got our gun rights... and our jury rights.

Meanwhile the village idiot Bloomberg asked the NYC police to go on strike unless gun prohibition laws are strengthened.

This intelect figures if he can show us that he can withdraw the few weak protections unarmed citizens rely upon at will, then we will want to surrender our Second Amendment rights out of fear.

Bloomberg needs a mental exam. Either that or he is counting on his NYC laws against guns making citizens criminals that he can imprison for not letting him openly sacrifice their lives to win his coveted High Idiot of the Century trophy.

Heinrich Himmler liked to use the same threats. And they worked until the Warsaw Ghetto finally openly armed themselves and resisted Himmler's official enforcement of extermination policies as the War ended.

Perhaps, as it seems to me, th goal of some, once labeled "evil" or "unBuckley" or "Democrats," is not so much about them, but our (those decent folk of the right in the literal sense of the term) blessings in being able to be so consistently correct?

In any event, God bless us all.

tg - Bloomberg is simply a tyrant. Look how much power he already has.

The Professor wrote: 'This is America, and we've got our gun rights... and our jury rights.'

What is this supposed to mean?

Is it an observation?

Is it snark?

A King says "yeah God whatever."

Other than kings fornicate.

Have you figured out something?

If so, what?

Is it going to be able to withstand a learned man?

If so how?

Since, and the SIN in since is a {too dumb to think this far; much less farther. I'm sorry but I am done.}.

I am a horrible person, as long as "I" means you you richie white rich pearl.

Persons of color, not racist but realist, are right to fear me.

I am a person who thinks I need to think differently of people of color than everyone I've ever met.

All people I met have color.

Tupac would support my fuckin' up any bitch ass cunt what hoped to thug near me.

After watching and reading, Tupac taught me lessons that will never be unlearned.

Of course, William Frank Buckley Junior taught more in a unique style that was more than just profitable but influenital to an extreme degree.

The only thing that will stop the cops from arresting people and violating the Constitution is by firing them for doing so.

But massive lawsuits would help, too.

Sometimes it takes jury rights to sustain other rights.

List one. Suppose Jeanne Assam would see the irony?

Oh Lord help this woman understand. Help her to know that a soft answer turneth away wrath, and once wrath is looking the otherway, shoot it in the head. Help her to understand a little trust goes a long way. The less you trust the further you'll go. Help her lord, to know there is no "overkill", there is only "open fire" and "time to reload".

It's a shame the lady wasn't a movie goer in Colorado.

Notice she was a suspect because of her NRA hat in the window. Cops were taking a cue from Janet Incompetano.

A church invasion by an angry man with a shot gun was recently stopped by a legally armed deacon and other church members in South Carolina. I'll bet you did not hear about it.

That's just being mean. Leslyn can't count to two.

In New Mexico, your car is considered to be like your home. No permit required.

Don't forget this either:

The evidence is clear: Massacres are stopped by legally armed citizens.... Nor have I found a single example on record of a multiple-victim public shooting in which a permit holder accidentally shot a bystander.... [A]ggressive gun control hasn’t prevented multiple-victim public shootings in Europe.

Greetings Professor,

How about a discussion of Jury Nullification and whether it is appropriate for jurors to try both the facts, and the law? (and be able to discuss these options, in the jury room, w/o fear of forcing a mistrial).

Thanks

Ironies? Let me count them.

1.) "She carried a gun..." Women don't often carry a gun in Wisconsin, and even fewer carry them openly.
2.) "...to church." So much for God's protection of his children. The juxtaposition between "God-fearing" and "gun-fearing" is delicious.
3.) "In Brookfield." One of Wisconsin's more affluent suburbs (and supposedly therefore more liberal than the average).

Any one of the three is ironic; the combination thereof takes it to the meta.

1.) "She carried a gun..." Women don't often carry a gun in Wisconsin, and even fewer carry them openly.

How is open carry "ironic", exactly? Atypical, yes. Ironic, no. Do you know how many women in Wisconsin carry concealed? Many thousands of people applied for concealed carry licenses in 2011, and I'm sure many of those were women.

2.) "...to church." So much for God's protection of his children. The juxtaposition between "God-fearing" and "gun-fearing" is delicious.

God does protect His children, but He doesn't expect us to act like actual children. God exhorts us to each other and protect ourselves. That's why civilized cultures which respect human dignity recognize the right to self-defense as inherent and unalienable. As they said back in WWII, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

3.) "In Brookfield." One of Wisconsin's more affluent suburbs (and supposedly therefore more liberal than the average).

Never been there, but, oddly enough, many rich people own and carry guns. Amazingly, even liberal people own and carry guns. That is ironic, but perhaps not in the way you intended.

"I do not think that word means what you think it means."

Kirk Parker म्हणाले...

Kim,

I think the reason we were all beating up on leslyn was that the ironies were all in her own mind; not in the actions of Ms. Sutterfield. FWIW, I virtually always carry in church myself (albeit concealed), just like your former-countryman Charl van Wyk, and for similar reasons: you just never know when trouble may find you...

Nice to see you here, btw!

अनामित म्हणाले...

"Benitez testified that her training told her that the presence of NRA gear makes it more likely the person might have a gun."

Really? You needed training for that?

As referenced in an earlier post: "If one of the hundreds of people at the theater had a concealed handgun, possibly the attack would have ended like the shooting at the mega New Life Church in Colorado Springs in December 2007.

In that assault, the church’s minister had given Jeanne Assam permission to carry her concealed handgun. The gunman killed two people in the parking lot — but when he entered the church, Assam fired 10 shots, severely wounding him. At that point, the gunman committed suicide."

Me thinks neither evil nor insanity is turned away by a gathering's innocence.
