I'm thinking geometric patterns. The second photo has the geometric painting in the background as well as the hallway and doors of the museum making a nice pattern.
Then, again, since a woman probably selected these pictures, something to do with gender relationships is likely too.

Heh. Getting back to the photo, the odd angle of the tree, and the pattern of the paving, at first made it look to me like they were strolling horizontally on the vertical face of a building.
