"Back in business — Blaska!"

Announces Meade, telling Isthmus readers to bookmark the new blog, but it's Isthmus, so Meade's immediately smacked down by one commenter who assures everyone that Meade "will be dropping [Blaska's] opinions on [the Isthmus forum] like they are science at every opportunity, so I don't feel the need to bookmark his page." And then everyone switches to talking about some other blogger on the same site, and she's apparently a complete idiot.

Blaska was the conservative blogger at Isthmus not too long ago. But Isthmus lost a couple of its liberal bloggers left — Jack Craver (remember when he trashed me?) and Emily Mills (remember when she trashed me?) — and if they'd kept Blaska, there'd only have been one liberal (Citizen Dave) to offset the one conservative, and that wouldn't make sense in a Madison, Wisconsin "alternative" newspaper now, would it?

I hope Meade keeps posting there just to amuse himself and annoy the regulars, since he's not going to find intelligent debate there. Just childish insults directed at anyone who disagrees with the Madison/Isthmus/"progressive" dogma.

We've got the Riverfront Times here in St Louis, a very liberal paper. It's been fun over the past couple of years watching reality hit them squarely between the eyes when positions they have advocated for over years and years end up exactly like their opponents told them they would.

For some reason, I get Rolling Stone delivered to my door.

Even it surprised me as how much of a typical leftist rag it is, even in light that the Obama administration is the "Establishment."

The opinion pieces (even if I agree with any of them) are completely juvenile.

Well, at least maybe Meade has found an interesting blog to post.

"We" wish him well! :)

Well, he also posts here occasionally ~ just sayin'.

hmm, posting on the net is only useful if it's entertaining, otherwise it's a total waste of time!

Why is that a good use of Meade's time?

Only Meade can answer that. Of course if there's a leaky skylight, or the oil needs changin' in the bus, then no it isn't the best use of his time.

David Blaska म्हणाले...

That Isthmus Forum is a snake pit of hate and ignorance. For good reason do its inmates (unlike Meade) choose anonymity.

Ann, thanks for the love.

Wouldn't this question be best poised to Meade, who has in the past posted there to tweak the lefties?

Whether Blogging is a good use of anyone's time is a question best not asked.

By "hope" I meant, "I hope he's enjoying himself by posting there, because he's not going to get any substantive debate, just personal attacks". Guess I didn't phrase it clearly.

But it doesn't matter whether *I* think it's a good use of Meade's time, and I didn't mean to imply that it did. It only matters whether *he* thinks it's a good use of his time.

In other news that will have the Madison blogosphere all atwitter, Sen. Vinehout has announced her candidacy for the governorship. So there will be a Dem primary.

marylynn म्हणाले...

If the only choices are Falk or Vinehout, the write in Walker in the Dem primary joke may end up not a joke at all. Both of those women are unqualified and unelectable. The recall temper tantrum should have been better thought out by those fools.

Joe Schmoe म्हणाले...

Regarding their treatment of Meade (disregarding his opinion simply because of who he is), I'm finding that lately to be very typical of Democrats. I live in a Deep Blue area where there's about 40 flavors of Natl Palestinian Radio and, you guessed it, an Al Jazeera network! (Or at least a station that carries Al Jazeera news coverage.)

When NatlPalRadio or AlJaz are interviewing someone--who's always a lefty--the interviewer will get 'tough' and ask them 'well, so-and-so the Republican said this'. The interviewee always sniffs and says something to the effect that since it was said by a Republican, it's not even worth considering their argument. Interviewer laughs, 'Moh-hoh-hoh!' and then they retreat back into their comfort zones to chuckle about the latest David Sedaris book or some inane social issue.

So I'm troubled by the dismissiveness of differing viewpoints.

You phrased it fine, P. I admit, posting there is a guilty pleasure. Keeps me off the street.

Vinehout, huh? Ooh - more Forum fodder!

Joe Schmoe म्हणाले...

Mr. Blaska, good luck. I'll try to remember to check in on your blog. I don't live in Wisconsin, but through Ann's blog here I've become fascinated with all of the stuff going on. Heck, I probably know what's going on in WI better than my own state.

I had a work project about a decade back that required me to review a handful of back issues from alt weeklies around the country. I'm sure the people that produce these publications consider themselves to be hip and trendy and oh so special, but their products were basically identical in viewpoint and tone and, after an hour or so, extremely boring. They just aren't the precious little snowflakes that they think they are.

Curious George म्हणाले...

I assume you are referring to the John Doe thing, despite that it continually blows up your face. And despite the fact that every time you bring it up, you are rigorously debated here. So there is no ignoring it. Why Ann hasn't posted about it you will have to ask her. As for "Wisconsin conservaives" well, I guess it's because it's really not a story at all. We yawn.

Roger J. म्हणाले...

My thought about blog posting: its rather like writing letters to the editor except the editor writes back--great fun, doesnt cost anything and cheaper than playing the ponies.

At the end of the day, no one cares what is posted on a blog--its like farting in a hurricane.

Meade--if you like it, go for it.

shiloh म्हणाले...

"Only one liberal per conservative? Unfair! There must be at least three liberals per conservative."

Since this blog is about 80/20 in favor of conservatives, Althouse must now close her blog to be fair.

Armatel, thanx for playin'.

Roger J. म्हणाले...

Shiloh--I think that most people that zero in on a blog tend to participate with people that think like they do--either on the left or right. Nothing wrong with that unless, of course, you assume that contrary opinions might change people's minds. They dont, IMO.

John Stuart Mill never understood that.

Blogs are fun--they are not, for the most part, instruments for enlightenment.

garage mahal म्हणाले...

I assume you are referring to the John Doe thing, despite that it continually blows up your face.

Walker could be behind bars and you would still be saying the same exact thing. You're too much dude. Althouse won't touch this story with a ten foot pole, and if you're a hyper partisan Walker supporter like her, I probably wouldn't be either. If you just ignore it, it will go away!

Ann wrote:

I'm confused by the syntax here. Do you mean left in a verb or adverbial sense, as in "I had three apples but John took one and now I have two left," or "John left the room." Or do you mean left as a political category?

shiloh म्हणाले...

Roger J

Was just replying to Amartel's inane hyperbole w/my own sarcasm.

And yes, politics notwithstanding, one of the first things I noticed back in the day was the internet pack mentality, which often times siphoned off into clique mentality, wherein a small group of elite snobs tried to take over a blog or just broke away from said blog to form their own hoity-toity private blog.

ie human nature.

Like Trooper forming his own private blog. Not sayin' he's elitist as I don't know him well, so he's probably just a damn disgruntled fool. :D

Thus ends my class on internet psychology and as always, no charge.

>

So please continue w/the daily Althouse conservative whining and attempted ;) sarcasm.

Chip S. म्हणाले...

Is the "alternative" part of "alternative newspaper" simply shorthand for "alternate-reality"?

Roger J. म्हणाले...

Shiloh--you are generally correct but I do take issue with your characterization of "elites." the elite to which you refer are nothing more than people who prefer to interact with people who think like they do. Its not elitism--as you say, its just human nature.

Scott M म्हणाले...

Its not elitism--as you say, its just human nature.

It becomes elitism when ideas or people outside that group are shunned for simply being from outside.

shiloh म्हणाले...

Roger J

You are more or less correct, because I was thinking of a particular incident when about (20) disgruntled fools who though their shit didn't stink tried to take over a reality blog and when said coup d'état :D didn't work, they broke away and formed their own blog. They made several childish demands er suggestions and when they were laughed off the stage, they took their "balls" and left.

So they were indeed at least, wannabe elitists lol but in general folk like to be around like minded folk.

Whereas I prefer a variety. :)

Amartel म्हणाले...

Arguing with the terminally stupid.
Isthmus is not an "alternative" newspaper as it purports to be, and is not interested in alternative points of view unless there's a 3:1 ratio in favor of the ruling status quo. Apparently, Citizen Dave is not enough of a heavyweight to do battle with Blaska alone so Blaska must go. Point to Blaska. ??
Althouse is a blog which sometimes blogs about the law and doesn't purport to be anything else.

Roger J. म्हणाले...

Shiloh--I am glad you prefer a variety of opinion--as do I. And for the most part, the professor permits a variety of opinion.

So lets continue to blog away, and as do you, I do not expect anyone on this blog or any other to subscribe to my opinions. Thats why I like participating on blogs.

go out and do good

Again, Ann can answer why no posts. But there has been no shortage of responses by many here when you bring it up over and over and over. So we are hardly ignoring it. It's a non story. But many are miore than willing to respond to your constant comments, which like this latest one are full of assumptions, if not outright falsehoods. It's just a way for you to cope facing the coming disaster that will be the recall election.

Garage, we're not going to talk about how "fire can't melt steel!" or "the Joos run the Illuminati!", no matter how many times you link to it.

Shiloh: Since this blog is about 80/20 in favor of conservatives

Only if you count Libertarians as conservatives. Otherwise, its more like 40/20. But I keep forgetting you like to keep things simplistic.

garage mahal म्हणाले...

Garage, we're not going to talk about how "fire can't melt steel!

Feel free to carry on, it's amusing:

"Those felony indictments are nothing!"

"Walker hired $800 per hour criminal defense lawyers because he just wants to help out with investigators with some paperwork!"

Curious George म्हणाले...

"garage mahal said...

Hehe. You wish."

Actually, it's pretty much a fact.
I think what is telling is how bad you want to make it a story. Anything a story. It started a year ago when you and your ilk made the claim that "Walker called authorized the National Guard to enforce his policies". Not true. Followed up with "Proof that there is no deficit!". Not true.

But keep clinging to straws!

garage mahal म्हणाले...

I think what is telling is how bad you want to make it a story.

So when voters are again asked to decide a leader for the state, they won't take in account how Walker knowingly lead a county office full of felony indicted staffers that he hired? As they say, good luck with that. Sounds like it's wrapping up soon though. I can't wait to see what's in those thousands of emails they found on private network that was set up to evade the law. Walker emailed to it at least once.

Of course, my 80/20 is not scientific as the only parameter to go by is when Althouse put's one of her useless anti-Obama/Dems polls up and the final tally is usually around 70/15 anti-Obama.

Just like one of fixednoise political polls ie a self-fulfilling fair and balanced ;) prophecy.

I digress.

Nope. I'm a conservative, as are a few others here. But since you are so far out in Left Field as to be in the parking lot, its understandable how you would confuse the Libertarians here as "conservative".

My understanding is that Trooper York was unhappy about a particular commenter who was extremely rude and offensive and did not add much to any thread. He thought Ann should do something about it. He left because of that. He had his own blog for a long time before he made it private. Apparently Ann and/or Meade did do something about the rude commenter because I have not seen anything from that person for some time. Why Trooper is not back, I don't know.
