"Pawlenty dropping out opens the door for McCotter to break the 1% threshold."

IMs Meade from across the room, linking here. Meade, you should know, loves Thaddeus McCotter and missed his formidable presence in last week's debate:
Mr. McCotter, a well-read, guitar-playing congressman who’s been known to quote rock-n-roll lyrics and obscure philosophers in the same breath, wasn’t included in the debate lineup because he doesn’t garner 1% in national polls, the threshold established by Fox News, a co-sponsor of the debate. Fox News and The Wall Street Journal are both owned by News Corp.

In a way I kinda like McCotter.

Commie Woodstock has a Tea Party affiliate! What a surprise. I might attend a meeting.

Meanwhile, my lefty friends on Facebook are passing around a picture of Bachmann eating a hotdog. They're giggling and poking each other in the ribs like junior high school kids. Bachmann sucks cock! they're tittering.

One of the stranger obsessions of lefties is their staunch belief that evangelical Christians despise sex. In the confused world of lefties, renouncing Daddy is the key to sexual satisfaction.

I'll take an evangelical girl over an athiest leftist girl any day. The lefty girls are feminist knuckleheads who believe that masculinity is the root of all evil. The evangelical girl is happy with men as they are. No contest.

I love T-Mac too!

A northern ( and thus less popular) version of Huckabee?

I'm as interested in a politician's musical skills as I am in their athletic abilities.

"Loves" is a bit hyperbolic. I've only seen him once, on C-SPAN.

I fell in like with him.

It's what happens on a deep psychic level that ultimately affects votes. I'd say Bachmann knows exactly what she's doing. And, note, she is winning.

welcome back McCotter

Woodstock commies believe that anybody who plays a guitar is obliged to sign up with the Bolsheviks.

So, I'm always happy to see a conservative who is an artist.

Yeah, Meade, I've only really caught "T-Mack" on Red-Eye several times also, but I like his act. Probably too damn cerebral for the teeming masses...got a really subtly dry sense of humor..

Not quite sure where they think those 5 children of hers came from.

I've been an enthusiastic supporter of McCotter. I knew he had a long hill to climb with the lack of name recognition but I thought that once he did a debate he'd make a very favorable impression on a lot of surprised people and make up a lot of ground very quickly.

I was very disappointed when he wasn't included in the debate and I assumed that was it for him. I still think he'd be an excellent VP pick (and I'd pay good money to watch him debate Biden).

Now you're saying he might still have a chance? My heart can't take another 15 months of this.

wv: arize - that's what he might just do.

Plus: even though this president (and Palin, too, actually) has taught me to despise and reject the cult of personality surrounding some politicians, how cool would it be to have a president named Thaddeus McCotter?

edutcher म्हणाले...

If McCotter wants to go anywhere, he needs to go on Hannity or Cavuto.

Red Eye is for the graveyard shift.

Mitt had better beware (and who cares about Obama.)

I agree completely. She demonstrates superb technique with that corndog.

It certainly works for me on a deep psychic level.

Pawlenty came across as weak, but he was a better candidate than Ron Paul. Why is Pawlenty out and Paul still in the game?

I just googled McCotter and spent a half hour reading the Wiki page, watching him speak on the floor of the Congress, and listening to him play rock guitar. I did see him play what I thought was chuck Berry on Huckabee about a month back but didn't know who he was. He had rhythm and subtle sense of high notes. I liked a lot of what he said, too. In fact, he's now my preferred candidate. I loved what he said about Communist China, and his responses to the Democrats. He meanders and has bizarre comic impulses and timing. He's been on Dennis Miller's radio show, too. He wanders, I guess, but takes you through a surprising range of ideas for a politician. He actually has thought about things. I'm for him.

I think he's sharper and steadier than Ron Paul, and somewhat playful and bizarre. Here he is playing Norwegian Wood on some radio program. You have to turn the sound up because he plays softly, but very well (not quite as well as the Beatles, but really QUITE good, and he lends the song his own accent):

I'm a big T-Mack fan also, and his thoughtful take on a wide range of subjects, but his "playful" side may well get him into trouble in American politics on the national stage. Unfortunately, most Americans believe that in order to be seen as serious about something, one has to also be solemn about it..

michaele म्हणाले...

Saw him being interviewed yesterday by Brett Baier and thought "damn, why Ron Paul and not him". He's quite intelligent, well spoken, wry sense of humor and doesn't give off a crazy uncle escaped from the attic vibe.

Thad is an intense man who is passionate about this country. You have to respect a person who fully understands exactly how Socrates, von Mises and Iggy Pop can all be used in one coherent sentence.

Ralph L म्हणाले...

Despite the usual generic invocation of the deity in his Christian name, there's no way in hell McCotter wins in the Southern primaries. The first thing in our minds will be Thaddeus Stevens, the primary reason Southern whites were Democrats for a hundred years.

He could try going by Thad.

Can Obama win the southern states? McCotter might take back the youth vote. I know some people are still besotted with BO, but most are willing to wash him off at this point as a loser. I think the northern states could be won by McCotter. He's odd, which I think is fun.

Jed Sorokin-Altmann म्हणाले...

Would he get in even if he met the 1% threshold? Fred Karger met the threshold and was still excluded.

Kirby Olson म्हणाले...

Maybe he could do some spin on Welcome Back, Kotter.

I sense he has real marketing possibilities to the ironic bohemians who inhabit largely the ultra-left. I wonder if he couldn't spin them to the right almost single-handedly. It's not a huge demographic, but he has a certain utility in terms of possibly rerouting the uselessly overly cerebral toward conservative politics. He talks about such marvelous things.

It's very rare to have a politician who appears to have actually read and understood classics like Adam Smith.

He's read Marx and occasionally thinks Marx was spot on.

As Marx was, occasionally, spot on (in terms of description, if not prescription).

Welcome Back, McCotter.

mccotter absolutely should have been included in the debate. nobody (except for a suprisingly capable newt) would have had the same abililty to eschew campaign slogans in favor of intelligent extemperaneous speech. he would have made the rest of the panel look like the bores and dimwits that they are. is that why he's being ignored?

Kirby Olson म्हणाले...

McCotter rises above the rest, for certain. I have now been going through all the old Red Eye vids online. I think he looks presidential, or presidential enough, but he has moments of genuine humor, too, unlike the bore in chief from Harvard.
