I've gotten that shallow of a depth of field with a point-and-shoot, but unless I use an SLR the bokeh looks like pooh. The blur in that picture is splendid.
Madison man.../ You have magnolias ready to bloom too. I don't know, but that sounds to me like taking southern trees across state lines for arboreal purposes.
Did anyone see Mayor Bloomberg on Meet the Press this morning? He suggested populating Detroit with immigrants. Bloomberg explained that industrious immigrants would revitalize the city and reshape its fabric.
I thought this was very odd. "Gulag" came to mind.
From what I've read, it's getting that way. Given the dynamic of big-city states, if Detroit is so depopulated, could MI slide into the R column in '12?
I looked at the transcript. The airhead news reader who hosts Meet the Press (David Gregory) had no follow-ups for Bloomberg on this. He just went straight on to the next subject.

I know! I heard that too, and thought it was crazy. Bloomberg poses as Mr. Reasonable, and then he comes out with something like that.
Big business folks know that immigrants are (on average) great workers.
I've often thought that they could save this country from the demographic problems down the road. But, for some reason many working Americans are afraid of the competition.
"Come, come, dear immigrants! We've made this beautiful ghetto, er camp, er... opportunity zone for you!"
I think you're looking at it the wrong way, Freeman. The immigrants would jump at the chance, and be lucky to do so, but I think there would be rampant problems, such as racial tension (I think Detroit is about 80% black) and possible mafia rule from the immigrant side. But in the long run, there would be warm bodies producing capial/taxes and preserving an historic city.
But the $64 question is how in the world can we re-establish our manufacturing base. Or are we to make money another way, in the future? Or are we the equivalent of an inner city, left behind in the backwater of progress?
It is nerve-wracking when the President makes a sudden announcement that he's breaking in to make remarks on television, and then he's ten minutes late.

Wow...I'm guessing from the shallow DOR you actually used a DSLR for a change.
Very pretty. We need more of that, something new and beautiful.

"Talk to your buddies." That tickles me.
There are two Magnolias near my house that are breathtaking when in bloom, and they're about to pop.
Hooray for May!
"Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May"

As long as the magnolias weren't stolen.
Blooms!

Is Detroit now vacant? And if not, what the hell is wrong with the people who already live there?
MarkG, he made it sound like a ghost town.

(not trying to start anything, just speculating)
I used the scientific approach. I did a match.com search for Detroit and came up with plenty of women. Maybe the men have gone missing.
I'd comment on the Bloomberg comment, but it's hard to type with my jaw sitting on the keyboard.

Freeman, that was my reaction. Imagine if Donald Trump or Sarah Palin had said it. (Not that I endrose either one for office. Only for theater)

I should do a separate post on that.
Blooomberg = Trump after Finishing School.

I'm coming to the conclusion only someone willing to ignore the usual screams of, "Racist!", will be able to take down Little Zero.
That leaves one of them or only a few others. The so-called top tier hasn't got the sand.
President about to speak regarding a national security threat.
Stay tuned...

The mantra used to be that immigrants will "take jobs Americans won't do." Now we are to believe that immigrants will live where Americans won't live.
Is there anything immigrants can't do? They're like the new ShamWow.
Supposedly Osama bin Laden is dead. If that's true: YAY!
If so, cool. Congrats to all involved.
