I got the Mark Twain Autobiography, vol.1. The wife seems to know what I am thinking(which could be dangerous). The bad boy is a 3 inches thick and weighs 10 lbs..She said she pre-ordered it before the release date. I am sorry to say that she was not aware of the Althouse Amazon portal.
Some absolutely precious time with my 4 grand daughters and a chance to make them blueberry pancakes in the morning while a blizzard strikes. How could it be better.
I got a copy of I Killed My Mother, by my favorite new director, which I thought was impossible to get. Even Amazon.ca didn't have it, but now it is mine!
I gave my daughter a Kindle (with the free 3G). I swore I would never give up dead trees for one of those electronic books, but after playing with if for a while today, I am now thinking how I can talk her into trading it to me, maybe for some Ug boots she's always wanted.
And best of all, I didn't have to shovel any snow today. The city could have plowed last night, in which case, I would have had to spend an hour or more clearing the driveway skirt and the sidewalk cutouts.
Of course, there's no escaping the inevitable. They are plowing tonight, and I'll have to shovel out Sunday morning.
I got the company of my NYC Branch - daughter, son-in-law/best friend, two grandsprouts and a Labrador the size of a pony (they swear she gets no table scraps).
Also, many calls from far-away near-and-dears. And a Double Musky cookbook and enough Underberg to deal with the result.
We have no snow, just lots of rain, a gift in our arid county, but there's a skating rink downtown where my visiting son and I will head tomorrow for a spin. Presents? We're finished with those, having everything we need and want, and we no longer put up a tree. A turkey dinner at home and the kids under the same roof, present enough. Our daughter, graduated and employed, grateful and sweet, brought us an iPad, which is darned cool.
We're saving the bulk of our Christmas til next weekend but so far I've recieved some great tamales and the new bio of badass Comanche warchief Kwanah Parker.
I got a fairly large multi colored ceramic frog for one of my outside garden areas. You have to be a gardener to understand why any sane minded person would be delighted to find that inside the big box! I just checked Amazon and they only sold small versions of this guy.Frankly,it would never have occurred to me to look there for that kind of item. My husband and I must get better about using it as a first source via the Althouse portal.
Mesquito, I'm halfway through "empire of the Summer Moon". It's really, really good. I can highly recommend it (so far!) if you want more on the Commanches and their run. Greatest horsemen who ever rode into battle.
I got a gps running watch from my wife and some running socks that have a spot for each individual toe from one of the daughters.
Maybe for new year's I'll give up running.
Kidding. I went for a nice jog on Christmas day but didn't deploy the Garmin since, 1. It wasn't charged up yet. 2. Need to re-enroll in college to figure out how to use it.
Mrs Hunt, you might have a look at this instead of the Glock. Woman runner friends like the 10-oz weight and slimness, as it can be concealed without bouncing around and chafing. I like the lasergrip sight - where the dot is the bullet shall be.
Similarly, the stun gun is impressively effective as long as the prongs don't hang up in thick winter clothing. A light, high-capsaicin pepper-spray unit is easier to carry and very effective, winter or summer (so long as the wind's not blowing and the subject has not built up a tolerance via high-Scoville foods).
Wife and I didn't want/need anything and asked that no one buy us presents. We didn't miss them. Having said that, every neighbor in our cul-de-sac dropped off some sort of calorie laden goodie. They're killing us with kindness. I can't keep away from those rice krispie-peanut butter -chocolate thingies.
We skyped with our daughter and grandkids. If you're not Skyping, you're missing out.
I have to think a bit to remember what all I got. With a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old, it's all about the toys.
My folks did put me on their cell phone plan, because I've been without one, by choice, for several years now. Also got some great basics from UNIQLO from my NYC relatives.
The mother of the "I hate books" boy took him on the Today show to let everyone know that he wasn't really a spoiled brat. He acted up and made faces throughout and was given a present at the end. It was a Woody doll (Toy Story 3). He started complaining that he already had it.
Meat grinder and pasta making attachments for my Kitchen Aid mixer. New prep knives.
We had fresh Dungeness Crab in garlic butter with sour dough bread for Christmas Eve dinner. Yum Yum Yum. No family this year so we could just relax and chill and not worry about a big feast.
Revanent, did you get the sodastream that works with plastic or metal bottles?
Plastic 1-liter bottles. The CO2 canister is metal, of course.
I bought one of these things for my family as a group Christmas present when I was little. We used it for years until eventually you couldn't find stuff for it anymore.
Glad to see it made a comeback! Although I'll mostly just be using it to make flavored seltzer water. :)
I got a 20 dollar bill, right out of the blue, from someone I didn't even know, who didn't offer his name. Bought milk, the January Scientific American and a few other things with it. Hope he's doing well, because he seemed a little down to me.
We use the soda maker too. Some of their flavor concentrates are pretty good: Orange, root beer and especially their ginger ale are great. The cola is pretty gross.

Cool! Snow skates.
I got a cold.
Humbug.
All you need now is a rifle and you can biathlon.
Glad you have your family around you this year.
A 10 year reprieve.
I passed my boards, third time. Woof.
A green leather cover for my Kindle, with a tree and a stream on it.
SWEET!
I got a 2-foot model of the Sears Tower and a GPS. Well, the GPS is shared with Mrs. c.
I got fifty bucks from Glasgow!

Ann first needs to be aware that because of the rapidly increasing level of competitiveness among biathletes, a normal rifle may put her at a distinct disadvantage.

Well reading this just freaks me out.
Are you also enrolled in flight school?
A very powerful stun gun and a Glock 19.
You're female, and you start jogging everyday, and everyone worries. "I want you to carry this every time you run."
A mini arsenal in sweatpants. I pity the fool.
Skates?.....you could live without the skates!
You can't live without your children.
It is good to have the children home for the holidays. Although my daughter had to skype from across the Pacific.
When they gonna fix this time zone problem!!??
Books. A J. Garcia tie. Croc boat shoes. Bottle of wine.
I also shared time with friends and family- the most precious gift of all.

Making blueberry pancakes for kids is a guy/father thing.
I got a crock pot, some Corningware containers, and a couple of books. And some jam from someone's recent jaunt to the North Shore.
And best of all, I didn't have to shovel any snow today. The city could have plowed last night, in which case, I would have had to spend an hour or more clearing the driveway skirt and the sidewalk cutouts.

Althouse wants to know what we got so she can match it with her list of Amazon purchases.
If you're not on her list you've been naughty!
The Wit and Wisdom of GK Chesterton.
Woo Hooo!

Do we call you Mrs T or Mrs BA?
Absinthe flavored dental floss and a flat tire at the vegetarian Chinese restaurant.
I got what you got, Prof A -- not ice skates, but some very nice time with my kids. Nothing better at any price.
Ice skates!
I'm not rich like the rest of you hoity-toity people. I got an ice-skate. Singular.
But it fits!

Anybody get books for Christmas?
Wow, those parents are... tolerant.
Aw, bless.
I got $100 in quarters, packaged in rolls, thank-you-very-much!
Lessee, where is the nearest Indian casino?
I got to be with my family for 2 weeks.
I got a Kindle and a SodaStream. Woo!
I also went to see "True Grit". Fantastic movie, much better than the original in my opinion.
We're saving the bulk of our Christmas til next weekend but so far I've recieved some great tamales and the new bio of badass Comanche warchief Kwanah Parker.
i'm just at home
I got a visit from Mom, time spent with my grandchildren, and the news that there is another grandchild on the way!
Life is good!
Freeman Hunt: Wow, those parents are... tolerant.
When he's older and not so cute, that's when the reality of what they've raised will hit them, and they'll wonder how it happened.
"Life is good!"
I hear you, Brotha!

Oh yeah...I forgot. I got a little R/C helicopter that's almost future tech it's so cool. A Syma S107. Beyond fun and into fantasy land.
Yeah, TML, I was always fascinated by the Comanches. I've read about a third and it's very good, despite there being, for me, no major surprises.
I always hesitate with injun books because the PC quotients are pretty high. This one is pretty straight up, though.

Yeah, that was not adorable. I wouldn't allow a child to behave like that much less film it, giggle, and put it up on YouTube.
The girls got a Ball of Whacks from their Grandmother.
The 8 year old put it together in 1:43 while her 13 year old sister took 2:55, but in fairness the older girl is working with a teen-addled mind.

A year older and nothing has changed.

We had fresh Dungeness Crab in garlic butter with sour dough bread for Christmas Eve dinner. Yum Yum Yum. No family this year so we could just relax and chill and not worry about a big feast.
We had a leg of lamb. Yum. Leftovers in about 60 minutes today.
I got a lot of clothes -- hand-knit socks and mittens, too. And I got a clean house, we had company for dinner.
"What did you get for Christmas?"
Speechless, mostly, in terms of what I was given.
But I will say this: You wouldn't get it even if I told you. (It involves actual engineering and manufacturing, for starters.)
"What did you get for Christmas?"
Much more than I EVER expected!
Christmas...It's always about good wishes, the WONDER of it all!
Dear Father Christmas,
We LOVE you!
Messrs. January, February, March?
Um...not so much.
Good luck though!
Always easy to love, with money.
Nearly impossible to collect with love.
Revanent, did you get the sodastream that works with plastic or metal bottles?
Plastic 1-liter bottles. The CO2 canister is metal, of course.
