DHOTUS: “...powerful interests that have been setting the agenda in Washington for a long time, and they’re not always happy with me. They talk about me like a dog. That’s not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true.”
The Diversity Hire, overwhelmed by a workload he was never prepared for, desperately returns to casting himself as a Victim of Those Racists. But his race-card has been maxed out. So, "like a dog" will just have to stand in.
During these instances (and there will be many more to come, increasing in frequency and intensity) it is not considered wise to approach the Diversity Hire with any expectation of proof for these vile accusations. They are known to snap and lash out. And file an EEO complaint the next day.
Better to scratch them behind their ears and make cooing noises. Then give them a pat on the head and say "good boy!" in reassuring tones.

I see why Obama reached for the dog simile - he's been treated like one his entire life. He invited it, traded off of it, and at some point forgot that the path to the Presidency would one day involve the responsibilities of a President.
Time for Barack to go back on vacation?
Cause he's an asshole.
What breed? Whine-eraner?
What the heck is he talking about? I have never heard that about Obama. I have never thought that. Is that how he thinks of himself?
Dude, excuse me, Mr. President, people hate your policies. They hate that the economy sucks and is getting suckier. They are on to the fact that blaming George Bush only goes so far. And by the way, did they talk to Bush like he was a dog? Because he got dogged worse than you.
If you are that thin skinned, you are even less of a leader than I thought you were.
"They talk about me like a dog."
A little glimpse into how Bo is treated.
But then, you know how Muslims feel about dogs.
(Sorry, couldn't resist)
The Mickey Mouse microphone is mocking Obama's ears too.
The stage hands are not on his side.
Granted, I have heard a certain dog reference in regards to Michelle Obama. I recall that similar references were made about Hillary. That is inappropriate, but it is what it is.
Because his feelings are hurt? Awwwww.... poor widdle pwesident...
Fen:
Yes, it's time for a vacation or a round of golf at least.
That's what I thought when Obama said today "I'll be fighting every day and every hour and every minute of every day". He's starting to sound like one of those talking dolls. Just pull the cord and he spouts the same old nonsense.
There goes the doggy vote.
Thin skin!
GWB was man enough to take it and not whine like an entitled third grader.
Thurber complained about the phrase "Die like a dog."
It ought to be "Die like a duck," he said, in order to convey the meaning it conveys.
What Obama means is probably duck.
They talk about him like a lame duck, in particular; if you want accuracy.
He's a lame duck because he's a moron and now it's apparent to all.
This thread will be classy I'm sure.
Evidently he's comparing what he's had to endure with the kid gloves treatment George Bush got.
What a pathetic weenie.
"If you are that thin skinned, you are even less of a leader than I thought you were."
Have any of the "genius" advisers talked to Obama about the importance of at least appearing Presidential? I mean, if there's anything Obama and his people were supposed to be good at, it's the ability to build a believable facade out of thin air. Their entire campaign was based on appearances, and now the guy can't even figure out that saying these embarrassingly un-Presidentially whiny things is seriously damaging to both him and the dignity of his office?
Or does he have such a short fuse and so little self-control that he can't resist lashing out like this? That's especially frightening.
As to where it came from, it's lifted from the cliche "treat like a dog," when somebody's treated badly.
He's not getting the respect he deserves, he's saying.
As to why, it's because it's on his mind.
"This thread will be classy I'm sure."
Not now that you've shown up.
Possibly the thread would have been classy, but then the trolls weighed in.
How about it Garbage? Care to show how much worse Ol' Jughead is being treated than Bush?
Nope, nothing at all like a dog:
1: Dogs tend to be loyal (hey Obama voters, how do you feel Obama is treating you?)
2: Dogs can learn new tricks. All Obama is capable of is "It's all Bush's fault", and "spend more government money on it."
No, the American people love dogs.
Dogs are bad according to Muslims.
Ergo, he's a Muslim! He let it slip again!
My dog is offended.
garage mahal" This thread will be classy I'm sure.
At least we can agree that Obama has no class.
Mission Accomplished on the economy, there O.

"May day, may day, may day...there's smoke in the cockpit, Captain. We're going down!"
How about it Garbage? Care to show how much worse Ol' Jughead is being treated than Bush?
Hard to say Gorge. One clear difference is the amount of whining about it. But that's how you guys roll.
oh to have Bush back so we can legitimately make fun of someone.
Does he ever speak live to a broad spectrum of Americans as a backdrop, or is it always union folk?
I like poodles.
Obama is vacationing his way thru the presidency while hundreds of thousands of jobs disappear... and he wants us to say how wonderful he is?
In their book "The Battle for America 2008," Haynes Johnson and Dan Balz wrote this:
[Chief political aide David] Axelrod also warned that Obama's confessions of youthful drug use, described in his memoir, Dreams From My Father, would be used against him. "This is more than an unpleasant inconvenience," he wrote. "It goes to your willingness and ability to put up with something you have never experienced on a sustained basis: criticism. At the risk of triggering the very reaction that concerns me, I don't know if you are Muhammad Ali or Floyd Patterson when it comes to taking a punch. You care far too much what is written and said about you. You don't relish combat when it becomes personal and nasty. When the largely irrelevant Alan Keyes attacked you, you flinched," he said of Obama's 2004 U.S. Senate opponent.
"As to where it came from, it's lifted from the cliche "treat like a dog," when somebody's treated badly."
Treat me like a dog is a cliche. Talk about me like a dog... that's really odd. I mean, how do you talk about a dog?
Jiveous, Turkeous.
Garage - want classy? Go back and look at the truly awful things that were said about George W Bush between 2000 and 2009.
I stand by my comment. Obama hates me. I hate him.
Here in its entirety is the most recent Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article about President Obama:
Air Force One departs Milwaukee
By Georgia Pabst.
"Less than two hours after landing in Milwaukee to give a Labor Day speech, President Barack Obama has flown out of Milwaukee."
Thurber said he never did anything worthwhile in his life until he started raising poodles.
What does an agnostic, insomniac dyslexic do?
Stay up all night wondering if there's a dog.
Couldn't resist.
Bush (Bish) dog
"How about it Garbage? Care to show how much worse Ol' Jughead is being treated than Bush?"...
Hard to say Gorge. One clear difference is the amount of whining about it. But that's how you guys roll.
At the moment the televised whining is coming from the President of the United States who feels he's not been held in due reverence.
But that's how he rolls.
The most beloved Cincinnati Red of ALL TIME:
Big Dog
Hi Meade!
Dogs treat us with unconditional love. There's none of that there.
I guess he was just tryin' to be all folksy.
Have any of the "genius" advisers talked to Obama about the importance of at least appearing Presidential?
DHOTUS: "They wont give me what I want! Why cant I just say everyone who disagrees with me is a racist? Just leak to CNN that the GOP called me the n-word!"
Plouffe: "uhm.. Mr President, thats not working as good as it used to"
Jarret: "And last time, the people actually demanded we provide proof. Congressman Carson is still dodging questions to this day. Breitbart posted a reward - "
Axelrod: "Say they're treating you like a dog. Our base will know you mean the same thing."
Fen - agree with you 100%
And for that he is what I called him. He's most divisive POTUS ever elected.
"Powerful interests in this country"??? How long has Obama been president? almost 20 months and he's still tilting at that windmill?
Althouse btw- do you consider your law career work? It ticks me off when Dems try to divide & conquer the electorate between workers vs. the lucky ones who are not workers. I assume that includes lawyers, doctors, law professors, financial analysts, business execs and owners. It's the old class warfare again.
Ann how do you talk about a dog?
Its code for "they use the n-word when talking about me"
Mr. Irene just said, "In some places, like this household, being treated like--or talked to like--a dog is a good thing.
Pant, pant.
HDHouse oh to have Bush back so we can legitimately make fun of someone.
Indeed. We could make fun of the way he speaks. Then we could make fun of you for thinking it means he's stupid.
The irony never fades, Libtard.
"I mean, how do you talk about a dog?"
In my experience there are two categories: annoying praise and general bitching
In the former you get the people who incessantly feel the need to inform you about how amazing their pet is and in the latter you get the people complaining about how he pissed all over the carpet.
David:
Georgia "Pabst" writes for a Milwaukee paper. With a name like that, she must be a native.
Mr. Irene is one lucky dog!
oh to have Bush back so we can legitimately make fun of someone.
Please describe, oh comedic sage, how one can illegitimately make fun of someone?
Very weird. I think it is a combination of being very think skinned and now being under pressure, after a life of people telling him how great he was.
I thought the same thing a Meade when I first heard it. I wished that some media guy had the chance and the guts to ask him to specifically identify what he was talking about. It would be fascinating.
And Irene is one happy bitch.
He may be referring to the "peeing on my leg and telling me it's raining" comment I've heard a lot lately.
Dog is my politic.
That doesn't make any sense, but it the substitution is a surprisingly close anagram to the bumper sticker.
Jim Treacher: “Dogs are capable of learning.”
Ouch.
POLL: What's America's Favorite Pet?.
Special interests, eh? The nerve o' them guys. I really don't understand what the fuck Barry is attempting to accomplish here.
The faux-populist fighting fighter who's fighting special interests on your behalf schtick doesn't really suit him, but whatever, I guess it's all he's got right now.
But to follow that up with a whiny personal aside about how special interests are being mean to him personally just defeats the whole purpose of what he's said before.
Axelrod really shouldn't allow him to speak extemporaneously.
To talk about Obama like a dog for a minute: People thought they were getting a labdoodle, a hybrid mixture of friendliness and intelligence. Instead, they find they've taken home a psycho pound dog who lurks under the bed most of the day. When you take him out for walks, he lunges at running children because he thinks that they are prey. If you ever got murdered in your bed, the damned dog would feed contentedly on your corpse for a couple of weeks....Now that's talking about Obama like a dog, and I certainly hope everyone refrains from doing it.
Who is Obama talking about? He's talking about Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller and Big Mama Thornton:
You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog
Cryin’ all the time.
You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog
Cryin’ all the time.
Well, you ain’t never caught a rabbit
And you ain’t no friend of mine.
They talk about me like a dog.
Who are "they"? Impotent, limp, and gutless reporters, perhaps?
2012 could offer an echo, not a choice.
"That's not in my prepared remarks" is a signal to bring it to the attention of the reporters. Obama thinks it's important.
The kid's got a glass jaw.
Fen is right.
This little episode reminds me very much of the 1988 election, during which Bush Senior's campaign beat Dukakis like a drum over the Willie Horton debacle. Because Horton is black, the left (and many in the press) have accepted as dogma that the Horton issue was some sort of clandestine appeal to racism by the GOP.
Well, who in the press today will admit that Obama's ridiculous "talk about me like a dog" statement is the same thing? Obama is too thin-skinned for his skin color.
I don't think Obama realizes that people's view of him has changed since he was elected. He seems to have a big blind spot about that. He has a loyal base - but they are a minority of the voting populace.
It is fascinating to me that Obama does not want to be the President of all the people. He only likes those who agree with him.
He's in a hall full of union members and says America needs to start exporting goods not jobs. WTF, is he that stupid or does he think we are?
"powerful interests...treat me like a dog"
Paranoia?
Is Obama saying that references to him as a Muslim is to "talk about him like a dog" ?
Wow, the internal polls must be super shitty to pull this "poor me" crap. I guess obama's looking for pity votes this november for what's left of his base?
Somebody needs a hug...
Was that really "not in my prepared remarks" ? Seriously ?
Re: the 'Mickey Mouse microphone'
As an Audio Engineer I have done many events with the White House, and they provide the microphones (two Shure Sm-57's with the Shure 'Presidential' mic clip)and the two large windscreens do help at outdoor events... but, yeah mickey mouse
I love history, so I am easily offended by snarky smarty pantses like Obama who claim to tell us what history says.
This bothers me now more than the dog remark:
"Now, anybody who thinks that we can move this economy forward with just a few folks at the top doing well, hoping that it’s going to trickle down to working people who are running faster and faster just to keep up, you’ll never see it. (Applause.) If that’s what you’re waiting for, you should stop waiting, because it’s never happened in our history. That’s not how America was built. It wasn’t built with a bunch of folks at the top doing well and everybody else scrambling. We didn’t become the most prosperous country in the world just by rewarding greed and recklessness".
Nonsense!
My kids (and thousands of other kids who are part of a nationwide homeschool group called "Classical Conversations") learned the following last year: "During the late 1800's, tycoons like Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, Carnegie and Swift, led the nation's industrial age by developing American resources."
And all of those tycoons are classic rags-to-riches. Vanderbilt quit school at 11 and ran a ferry boat. Rockefeller started out as a bookkeeper. Carnegie was born in Scotland in a one-room weaver's cottage, and came to America because his family was starving. Swift was a farmer and left school at the age of eight. From Wikipedia: "Swift . . . played a vital role in establishing the modern American business system, with an emphasis on mass production, functional specialization, managerial expertise, national distribution networks, and adaptation to technological innovation".
Actually "they talked about me like a dog" means they talked like a dog. How does a dog talk? He probably meant that "they talked about me like I was a dog," but what can you expect from a guy who thinks there are 57 states?
Media Bias:
The MSNBC clip is titled: Special Interests "treat me like a dog" but thats not what Obama said. He said "Powerful interests" not "special".
Two different things.
Obama is complaining about a Vast Right Conspiracy, another Goldstein out there for scapegoating to get his base riled up for November turnout.
MSNBC is spinning this into "Obama stands up to Lobbyists"
Maybe MSNBC did not get an advance non-copy of the non-prepared remarks.
PatCa said:
"He probably meant that "they talked about me like I was a dog,..."
I think you're right on this. I often hear: "They talk abut me like a dog." in the school and neighborhood where I teach.
My neighbor's dog talks. When they're away and leave the dog alone, the dog goes,
"Yip yip yip yippy yip yip yip yippy yip yiii-i-i-i-i-p yippy yip yip."
Most annoying, and a little bit sad.
Fen -- I must have missed it -- DHOTUS?
Designated Hitter of the United States?
I keep having Depeche Mode's Master & Servant echoing in my head.
Treat me like a dog
like a dog

Anyone else?
Did you hear about the dyslexic atheist who doesn't believe in dog?
In 2008 people told him he was God.
Now they tell him he's a dog-- although, I wonder what he's refering to... I remember people comparing Bush to a chimp but for the life of me I can't think of anyone calling Obama a dog.
The Rodney Dangerfield of Presidents cannot understand why serial liars are so despised by everyone sooner or later. The turkey needs to finish his waffle, play more golf , and write another autobiography about his year of living dangerously.
That’s not how America was built. It wasn’t built with a bunch of folks at the top doing well and everybody else scrambling.
Obama's never heard of the robber barons! They don't teach that in indonesia.
Seriously, I just had a conversation about this the other day. He has zero ability to remain above the fray. He just wants to whine and call people out for being mean to him. Man up, pumpkin!
DHOTUS = Diversity Hire of the USA
Dude: I talk about you like you are a trust fund pretty pretty princess who always gets her way or pouts. My objection to his candidacy was that he had neither great successes or failures to his credit. He had never really been knocked to the ground and bloodied, he had never accomplished any great thing without help. Had he accomplished something great, he would know that the next day is another day, and the work is twice as hard. How can anybody be the president of the Harvard Law Review and never sign their name to a paper they had written? (Could Andrew Breitbart find somebody, anybody, who was on the Law Review with him, and interview them about his work?) Winston Churchill said success was going from one failure to another without losing enthusiasm. President Obama has lost enthusiasm.
Let's call the liar out: Who is talking about you like you are a dog, and what did they say? Would a piece of candy make you feel better? Want them to apologize?
I talk about President Obama like he is a manipulative, delusional liar, a Socialist interested in destroying the country I love. I don't own a dog, but rare is the dog I didn't like.
Welcome to the Terrordome - the flip side of mass projection. It was a long time in coming.
Random memory traces here. Like BHO's living the old joke about the dyslexic Jehovah's Witness. He's coming around to the back door and asking if we believe in dog. Heh.
The thing is that now the bloom is off the Obama-Pelosi-progressive media rose....Republicans have to define what they are for. And the signs are they are beginning to distance themselves from a failed President - Bush - who they accuse of breaking major Republican principles.
The Young Guns book recognises "high profile ethics lapses" and "an inability to rein in spending or even slow the growth of government" led to a breakdown in trust in the party.
"The fact is, we had our chance, and we blew it," wrote co-author Eric Cantor, the party's chief whip.
Critics have pointed out that Mr Cantor, 47, from Virginia, was a member of the party's leadership during the era he is now criticising.
The Young Guns programme run by Mr Cantor and his colleagues and co-authors Kevin McCarthy and Paul Ryan is designed to find new, reliable conservative candidates.
The days of dogged loyalty to Bush are over. The "American Churchill" is called on the carpet for failing to veto a single spending bill for 5 years. His neocon-Wilsonian wars of adventure and nation-building. His "on CHina's IOU" prescription drug benny. His inabilty or lack of motivation to defend himself or Republicans. Open Borders and lack of concern about offshoring good American jobs. "Compassionate conservatism". Lack of interest or concern about US competiveness and US economic and fiscal health as the War in Iraq, the noble Iraqi people, and "fighting the evildoers" consumed him.
It isn't enough to be anti-Obama. Republicans have to stand for something and it appears that they don't want it to be "4 more years of Bush policies".
Well, dogs piss on carpets, and Obama misquoted on the Oval carpet.
Plus, dogs never wrote a single article for the Harvard Law Review.
Mebbe that's what he meant. I dunno.
It's easy to figure out the quote now that Instapundit pointed it out.
We wondered why he didn't say "treat me like a dog," but he was channeling Jimi Hendrix. Just saying a quote.
'They talk about me like a dog,
talk about the clothes I wear.
But they don't realize,
they're the ones who're square.'
From 'Stone Free'
But I wonder if quoting Jimi Hendrix is a good idea politically. All the squares among us don't get it.
The President and a poodle.
"Obama: "They talk about me like a dog.""
They bark at him?
Can't I just eat my kibble?
If only life would imitate art:
Johnny Fontane (blubbering about his career circling the drain): "Godfather, I don't know what to do; I don't know what to do."
Don Corleone (slapping him across the face): "You can act like a man!"

You're right. Obama's playing the race card here. Whites will scratch their heads at his like-a-dog remark. Blacks will understand that he's saying that whites give him no respect.
DHOTUS
Designated Hitter of the United States?
Diversity Hire.
Because Obama wouldn't be president if he were white.
Because he follows the familiar pattern of a diversity hire who is: out of his depth, grows ever more frustrated, blames his failures on racism.
See, its not possible that Americans might disagree with Obama's policies in good faith. It must be because we hate blacks. Or because we hate muslims. So it follows that some people [Goldstein was seen with them] compare Obama to a dog because they regard him as sub-human.
I guess that means we hate dogs now too. Will someone make me a crib sheet? I've lost track of who I'm supposed to be hating while I exercise my right to disagree with Our Dear Leader.
Who is talking about you like you are a dog, and what did they say?
Our brave MSM will get right on that...
Not.
"Because Obama wouldn't be president if he were white."
+1000. Or even come close to being nominated - he wouldn't have gotten out of the second tier of candidates. A white guy with his non-resume would have heard, "Gee he sounds smart and articulate but he hasn't *done* anything yet. Maybe next time."
Just a couple of comments to Obama...
Mr.President, it could be worse. Do you realize how few people talk kindly about any GOD these days? In fact, fewer and fewer people in America talk about God at all, and those that do are usually embroiled in some sort of controversy about him being God, or her being God, or one god of many gods and now maybe even the newly defined god of Hawking's latest theory.
All in all, very little talk about that. But talk about you?
Hey...You da man!
Each and every one of us has an opinion about YOU, and rare is the man or woman who isn't prepared to talk about that opinion anywhere, anytime.
Yesterday, "the consultant" warned us that the beginning of "the beginning of the end" was to be Tuesday, not Monday, so i guess Obama's speech today was just a dry run.
As a teaparty sympathizer, however, I am very nervous about tomorrow.
Calling Obama a dog may be black racist. Elvis took his first hit from a black writer's lyrics about someone being as worthless as a hound dog just a golfing all the time.
Every time someone says "diversity hire" I cringe.
I don't cringe because I disagree, I cringe because it's a substantial criticism and the perception that it is accurate doesn't mean anything good for blacks in this country. That's unfortunate.
Obama does seem unprepared and in over his head. I don't think that's necessarily due to his actual level of preparation, but his temperament and leadership style (or lack of).
He has stupid ideas and the leadership instincts of... something without leadership instincts.
Probably not a dog.
"Somebody needs a hug..."
Sorry, Barry, I'm too busy clinging to my guns and religion. ;-)
Real Presidents don't whine.
Gene wrote: "You're right. Obama's playing the race card here. Whites will scratch their heads at his like-a-dog remark. Blacks will understand that he's saying that whites give him no respect."
So it is a racist dog whistle....
Haha What's a racist dog whistle? Only certain color dogs can hear it?
@ FEN
DHOTUS
ahhhh ... got it. Thanks.
I figure he's a one termer and will move on to head the UN.
But there might be some real competition ahead for him to get that job. The folks who hang out there don't feel they have to make up for him being abandonned. And they are way past the DH thing.
Synova:
Obama's #1 problem- he is a close-minded liberal and believes every far left thing he believed when he was in college.
Leadership? Has he or his wife ever even coached a youth sports team?
Experience- has he ever even flipped a burger at a for-profit business and wondered how it got and kept its customers? And how it made a profit? And how hard it was to start and run a profitable business?
His problem is he does not even know what he does not know. Has he learned anything in 20 months?
Now, back to Obama's comment...
"They talk about me like a dog".
No worries, Mr. President, we talk to our computers as though they were people! Some of us want to kick the shit out of it, and others are patting it, as if it needs a hug. And all that just to get on line or from one site to another.
What the heck is THAT about?
Honestly, sir. Perhaps it is better we think of you as our "dog". Very few of us would ever consider beating up our "best friend".
With the wages and the perks we pay this guy, plus the lifetime pension and the lifelong ability to be in the news like that asshat Carter, this punk sure is cryin' tears the size of horse turds a lot.
Don't worry, Barry! For every stroke you take on the ol' golf course another thousand Americans lose their jobs. You've got that pension, though. Free medical, too. Would an ounce or so of gratitude kill you, Barry?
"Calling Obama a dog may be black racist. Elvis took his first hit from a black writer's lyrics about someone being as worthless as a hound dog just a golfing all the time."
No, no, no, Leiber and Stoller were Joooos - see how it all fits. Calling C-fudd!
This is a blunder that will haunt the president like the killer rabbit and the malaise speech.
The cliches assemble themselves. "Politics ain't beanbag." "If you want a friend in Washington, buy a dog." "There's no crying in baseball."
Or this quote, less well-known, from Kurt Cobain: “Nobody deserves to have their personal life pried into like I did and no one deserves to hear me whine about it so much.”
If i were one of his professional critics -- y'know, a Republican operative, a lobbyist against him -- I would feel a sense of pride and new opportunity in the wake of this comment. "Gentlemen, we have taken the measure of this man and found him wanting. Sally forth."
Oh, he's being "urban" with the dog thing. How adorable. I did hear the urban accent a little too.
What a dope. He already has the urban vote; it's everyone else who is voting against the Dems.
"His problem is he does not even know what he does not know."
AJ, nor do I...and nor do you.
It's one of life's "truisms".
"We don't know what we don't know."
Yet? That never gets in the way of a young couple deciding to bring a precious little baby into this world. It never gets in the way of a young man or woman choosing to step out and get that promotion and it never gets in the way of a politician, or a doctor, or a lawyer or an Indian chief...or a butcher, baker or candlestick maker, for that matter.
Personally? I don't give two hoots that you don't know what you don't know...BUT? I care an awful lot about what you DO know, and about what you are doing to learn more about what you don't know.
Curiousity and a sense of wonder will take you pretty much anywhere you need to go.
Personally? I don't give two hoots that you don't know what you don't know...
Always the wise owl you night owl. :)
Penny:
I agree almost 100%. But you are preaching to the choir. Try telling it to the president.
WE treat Obama like "a dog" because he IS a dog. Now if Obama would act like a good dog and "sit and stay" we would say "good doggy" and give him a treat....but Obama's now even house trained...and like an untrained dog, he's tearing the house up and shitting on the floor. Bad doggie!
It ticks me off when Dems try to divide & conquer the electorate between workers vs. the lucky ones who are not workers. I assume that includes lawyers, doctors, law professors, financial analysts, business execs and owners.
Can't speak for the others, but I don't know where you get the idea that doctors are not workers.
Some of us, especially surgeons, work harder than anyone you have ever met in your life. Pretty much all of us work like dogs, if I may say so, at all hours of the day and night, weekends, holidays, and children's birthdays.
While my roommate the poli-sci major was out partying for four years, I was home studying, night after night, month after month, year after year. Then came the first two years of medical school, with a course load about the same as carrying 40 credit hours a semester of science classes. Then it started to get difficult.
14 years after I graduated from high school, I was ready to start my career. In the meantime, my buddy the union plumber had accumulated over $200,000 in his IRA. I had the same amount in student loan debt, with no IRA.
I draw my wages on a W-2 and pay the very top marginal tax rate, nearly twice what the coupon-clipping gigolo John Kerry pays on his millions. And I pay a higher percentage of my income on the Social Security and Medicare payroll tax than Kerry as well. There is practically no way for me to shelter any income.
Nobody pays for my pension, health and dental insurance, $50,000 per year malpractice insurance, or other benefits. They come out of my own pocket. Bonuses and paid vacations are nonexistent. I eat what I kill.
Worst of all, we know that every time we sign our names to a report, we are putting every penny we have saved in our entire lives at the mercy of the rapacious, dishonest pirates of the plaintiff's bar. No mere lawyer understands the feeling of that sword of Damocles overhead, nor will ever comprehend how much we'd like to wind up all their guts on a stick and roast them.
In return for all these sacrifices, the average primary care physician can expect an income and benefit package not much better than a GS-15 paper pusher with a buttwipe degree in minority grievance studies. Specialists do a little better, or at least used to. My own income has taken a 60% drop in four years as the Feds dictate what we can charge our patients and the insurance companies follow suit.
I have told every bright young person I know to stay strictly away from this profession until such time as Obamacare collapses and we are allowed to return to something like a free market in our services. I do not believe the ungrateful American public deserves the benefit of my skills and sacrifices any longer. I intend to quit as soon as practical, and watch with grim satisfaction as the health care system burns. I will tell my former patients to call the nearest ambulance chaser or government bureaucrat or Democratic politician if they need medical care, because I will not be made a slave and a scapegoat.
Nice - my comment @ 8:43 got a mention on Instapundit... does that mean its down hill from here..
Oh no.. can self pity be contagious?
Plus, from the comments at Althouse, Obama, The Thin-Skinned President. And a lack of experience taking criticism. “Not surprisingly, Obama’s thin skin leads to self pity.”
Althouse: Treat me like a dog is a cliche. Talk about me like a dog... that's really odd. I mean, how do you talk about a dog?
Dog owners usually dote on their dogs. Sure, they get temporarily mad when he pees on the floor (moves slowly on gay rights), but generally they love him and have tears in their eyes when he does something adorable (speak).
So, Obama is obviously talking about Democrats and considers them his enemies.
Will he ever learn that it's a bad idea to bite the hand that feeds you?
Garage said: "One clear difference is the amount of whining about it."
Finally! I agree with Garage about something! It's true, the difference is clear -- Bush did not whine about the way he was treated; he handled his critics the way he's still handling them now -- with class and dignity. Obama, on the other hand, doesn't realize that, in his position, he ought to try to act like a man instead of a petulant teenager.
"I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and dog-gone it...."
Al Franken (Stuart Smalley)
Dr. Skookum:
You misunderstood what I wrote. I was guessing that the Dems and Obama would not include doctors, law professors etc in their "worker" category when they divide the country into those who are workers and I presume those of us who ain't workers.
Just trying to be folksy and homespun, notice the "downhome homey" accent. He is criticized as being elitist, so he is trying to be one of the bros, the "black" man" that the willfully blind elected so hopefully.
Really though he is much lower than a dog. A dog has unbreakable allegiance and attachment to it's owner, while Obama has none (We the People are his owner, he works for us). All of his actions, from lying to the world that he would protect and defend the Constitution, to attempting to make America subject to World governess at the "Climate Change" meeting, to throwing countless auto workers out of work, and gifting an American company (Chrysler) to a foreign company (Fiat), to suing a US State and siding with a foreign country, to siding with Islam in their efforts to build a "Victory Mosque" at GZ.
CLEARLY he has shown that he is lower than a dog, and has demonstrated the rationale behind the requirement that he be a Natural Born Citizen, i.e born in the US to US Citizen parents. Or maybe you like Laurence Tribe's definition that says the same thing,
"One born WITHIN a Nation's territory AND ALLegiance".
I'd like Obama to say exactly who said what and when. Be more specific!
This has been my complaint about politicians for years. Bush drove me crazy doing it. Whenever someone is speechifying and says People say... I immediately wonder why the politician is not specific.
If you can't be specific, stop tslking.
..er, talking.
Good point MadisonMan (8:03 AM). If we had a real press corps those questions might get asked. The question "Would you please give us some examples" would now be considered a revolutionary attack by the press. It should be normal operating procedure.
That said, the real questioners here should be targets (presumable Republican politicians). They should be demanding examples. Keep the quote in play until even the speaker is sick of it.
Amen to what Skookum John said.
My son will be 34 in March. He just received his first ever paycheck last month. (Other than some summer jobs)
He is currently a resident at UPenn and has several more years to go before his formal medical education is finished.
His sister is an engineer and earns 3 times as much as he does.
Thankfully, he has no student debt.On the other hand, I am 62 and have no savings as well as a re-fi mortgage on my house.
He better start getting the big bucks in a few years. He is the only retirement plan I have.
John Henry
John Henry
John Henry is the face of what was once America. He trusted the Promise. Worked hard. Played by the rules. Raised his children to have a better life.
The Democrats have stolen all that from him.
After his hoof had healed up, Boxer worked harder than ever. Indeed, all the animals worked like slaves that year. Apart from the regular work of the farm, and the rebuilding of the windmill, there was the schoolhouse for the young pigs, which was started in March. Sometimes the long hours on insufficient food were hard to bear, but Boxer never faltered. In nothing that he said or did was there any sign that his strength was not what it had been. It was only his appearance that was a little altered; his hide was less shiny than it had used to be, and his great haunches seemed to have shrunken. The others said, "Boxer will pick up when the spring grass comes on"; but the spring came and Boxer grew no fatter. Sometimes on the slope leading to the top of the quarry, when he braced his muscles against the weight of some vast boulder, it seemed that nothing kept him on his feet except the will to continue. At such times his lips were seen to form the words, "I will work harder"; he had no voice left. Once again Clover and Benjamin warned him to take care of his health, but Boxer paid no attention. He did not care what happened so long as a good store of stone was accumulated before he went on pension.
...For the next two days Boxer remained in his stall. The pigs had sent out a large bottle of pink medicine which they had found in the medicine chest in the bathroom, and Clover administered it to Boxer twice a day after meals. In the evenings she lay in his stall and talked to him, while Benjamin kept the flies off him. Boxer professed not to be sorry for what had happened. If he made a good recovery, he might expect to live another three years, and he looked forward to the peaceful days that he would spend in the corner of the big pasture. It would be the first time that he had had leisure to study and improve his mind.
...it was in the middle of the day when the van came to take him away. The animals were all at work weeding turnips under the supervision of a pig, when they were astonished to see Benjamin come galloping from the direction of the farm buildings, braying at the top of his voice. It was the first time that they had ever seen Benjamin excited—indeed, it was the first time that anyone had ever seen him gallop. "Quick, quick!" he shouted. "Come at once! They're taking Boxer away!" Without waiting for orders from the pig, the animals broke off work and raced back to the farm buildings. Sure enough, there in the yard was a large closed van, drawn by two horses, with lettering on its side and a sly-looking man in a low-crowned bowler hat sitting on the driver's seat. And Boxer's stall was empty.
The animals crowded round the van. "Good-bye, Boxer!" they chorused, "good-bye!"
"Fools! Fools!" shouted Benjamin, prancing round them and stamping the earth with his small hoofs. "Fools! Do you not see what is written on the side of that van?"
That gave the animals pause, and there was a hush. Muriel began to spell out the words. But Benjamin pushed her aside and in the midst of a deadly silence he read:
Alfred Simmonds, Horse Slaughterer and Glue Boiler, Willingdon. Dealer in Hides and Bone-Meal.
- Animal Farm, George Orwell
Obama is selling out the John Henry's of America... for a bottle of whiskey.
But ... Obama is the one who made the "mongrel" comment on The View.
He ain't never caught a rabbit and he ain't no friend of mine!
I like my dogs. I speak to them nicely. They are the lights of my life.
The president, a self-described "mongrel" is an abomination. He is dreaming if he thinks I would ever speak about him as I would a dog. Dogs are faithful and useful. He is a traitor and a thief. The sooner we are rid of him, the better.
Boo hoo, poor Obama. He just never learned about sticks and stones and all that.
Who here thinks the whole world isn't splitting its sides laughing at us right now?
Brigette Gabriel -- noted Lebanese American journalist, author, and activist against terrorism and fanatical Muslims -- was on KSFO in San Fran with Brian Sussman this morning. She said that talking about someone being a dog is a MAJOR insult in the Islamic world. She believes Obama was referring to this insult in his off-the-cuff remark (i.e. the GOP calls Obama a dog). She said Muslims would understand the insulting reference, but Americans would not. Food for thought?
What Obama doesn’t know is not the problem. It’s what Obama knows that ain’t so that’s the problem—to paraphrase Will Rogers.
I like dogs. Obama =/= dog. Obama = stupid twat.
Poor Obama, he's just been working (errrr vacationing) too hard. He needs a rest. Bow, wow, Obama.
Funny, I could have sworn that DHOTUS=Dog House of the United States, given the topic you know.
If you take in a dog, feed it and shelter it and treat it kindly, it will be your loyal friend for life, maybe even lay down its life to protect you.
If you take in an Obama, it will betray you.
Oh Fen, that passage makes me want to cry.
‘Dis Prez like a dog
Unfair to trusty canines
They don’t whine as much.
Can’t eat his waffle
Won’t show AKC papers
Wait ’til November.
Why is the President complaining?
He did name his dog after himself ("B. O." = "Bo").
..oh, and...
"That’s not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true.”
That's true, Mr. Preznit -- it wasn't in your prepared remarks.
"They talk about me like a dog."
Hmm.. What kind of dog are "they" talking about?
Does he mean "they" talk about him like a hero who has dived into an icy river or run into a burning building to save someone? No, in this context that seems unlikely.
Does he mean "they" talk about him like he's Man's Best Friend? A loyal companion who wwaits for you by the door, brings you your slippers and rests his head on your leg for a little ear scratch? No, that seems equally unlikely.
No, I think he means that "they" talk about him like an egg-sucking, ankle-biting, leg-humping, carpet-wetting, pooping behind the couch kinda dog. Which may be the closest we'll ever get to a revelation that the man has a conscience.
He's not getting the respect he deserves, he's saying
Obama....the Rodney Dangerfield of Presidents.
Perceived Muslim says what?
Hey, Mr.President, if the collar fits...
Perhaps the Nobel Prize Committee can give him a 2011 award early this year...
Obama reminds me of certain Gen Y folks who constantly need praise and expect no criticism. Two years ago partners were told that this generation of associates expected (demanded?) challenging work, to be paid well, to have time off, to be given prompt and positive feedback, etc.
How times have changed. Unfortunately, Obama (like a few Gen Y grads) hasn't and would rather whine about perceived slights.
"You're right. Obama's playing the race card here. Whites will scratch their heads at his like-a-dog remark. Blacks will understand that he's saying that whites give him no respect."
Yeah, that gritty street realism he picked up in his tony Hawaiian prep school while his mama was a bank executive...
Compared to him Spike Lee's childhood in the mean streets of suburban Long Island was "Cry the Beloved Country."
Most, or all, the commenters here have (I'm assuming deliberately) interpreted Obama's comment here to have meant a domesticated dog - in which case he's either wrong, if it's good, or right, if it's bad.
The other option of course is that he's being talked about as if he's a WILD dog. I think this is what he meant, and this exactly. He's not whining here that people are putting him down (no pun intened) He's talking about serious and influential players, like Murdoch, who see him as either threat or nusiance to their own "flock" and their own power base, and who as a result want him either to heel or to be removed from any position of influence, buried politically and never seen again.
Someone mentioned the robber barons... Remember that at the when Rockefeller built his empire, he was universally hated. It was only through substantial philanthropic contributions that his reputation was rehabilitated.
(He was also never, ever reckless. He tended to win his battles before they were fought, presenting his rivals with a fait accompli.)
What does this mean for today?
Maybe such enterprising men did shape America into the nation it is today. That doesn't mean the way they went about their business was liked, or likable, by anyone who was on the wrong side of that method.
