On my back in the front yard, I look up and see the robins have built a nest...

... in the oak tree:

I wouldn't have been lying there to notice that if you hadn't made the lawn so plush and lagged behind when it was 6 p.m. and finally cool enough to leave the homestead. Then we set out. Into the woods:

Ah! The wild asparagus!

I was looking up in the trees today, too.

And I walked down a path.

Otters!

Jason (the commenter) म्हणाले...

rhhardin, I think there may be an animal in your picture, too!

Coat 'em in a sesame-oil vinaigrette and cook 'em on the grill, is my suggestion.

And what's with all these new fangled pressure treated wood "paths" through the woods?

In my day, we walked on dirt through the woods with no shoes 'til our feet were cut to shreds and we were infested with parasites.

And we liked it!

A few weeks ago I was walking through the woods and passed a man wearing nothing but shorts and carrying nothing but a walking stick. I immediately took off my shoes and socks and enjoyed every minute of it.

You must have some serious callouses. Otherwise that would hurt.

Or you're a hobbit.

The boardwalk is there because it's marshland.

The boardwalk is there because it's marshland.

And because it's lovely.

The best things in life are mostly right in front of our nose.

We just need to pause long enough to notice them.

I saw a cardinal fly in to our back yard settle for a bit and fly again to our neighbor's yard.

There was a group of us and we (i didn't contradict them) saw it as a good omen.

To me living and trying to live is a good omen.

La vita è bella

Stalking the Wild Asparagus?

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

We are so lucky.

I think of all the thing going wrong all the time and yet I have the power to know that not only could it be worst, it is worst for most of the effing humanity.

It is why the people that die so I could be here wondering stupidly should be... should be remembered... should be honored.

Thanks! The robins were yummy!

One of my fondest summer memories of my Aunt Claribel's house, lying on my back in front of her house; granted, it was on a hill with a few tall evergreens, but the grass in spots was plush.

Sounds like a lovely place for a man and woman...

Most of our time is spent living withing the realm of our own consciousness.. for whatever is worth.

Some of us venture out far enough to read.. some far enough to read Althouse.. MeadHouse.

Can we see the cardinal from different vantage points and still appreciate it?

Sparrow grass!

I'm in the verge of going on a - some kind of binge.

I dont want to do it because I feel very guilty afterwards. allways have allways will.

Posting here is a poor way to try and talk my way out.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Come on, Lem. We love you. Don't damage yourself.

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

And then I think.. why do you dump your shit on people like this?

Don't you own them better?

Haven't they suffered you long enough?

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

Come on, Lem. We love you. Don't damage yourself

You guys are fu*ng amazing.. it be nice to hear from my friend Meade.

I'm just saying.

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

I know he said he would remain in the background like Dolly Parton's husband.. I'm sorry I object!

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

Meade you are not Dolly Partons husband.

You are our friend and sometimes we are going to need you.

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

I dont mean to put you guys on the spot.. its just that I dont want to talk to a girl all the time ;)

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

I'm a little drunk don't pay any attention to me!!

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

The minute a poster start dictating to a blogger..

Who is in charge?

I'm drunk but I'm not that drunk.

Promise!

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

I'm sorry I misbehave.

It is a side of me.. I venture to say that it is a side most people have.. a selfish side.

Maybe there is nothing wrong with that, I'm going to say it here and strut around my room like I'm president Obama ;)

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Lem!

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

I owe this blog..

The music is just an afterthought.

Meade म्हणाले...

Lem,

Time for bed.

I can't tell you not to get drunk. I can only tell you it's time to say goodnight.

Come back tomorrow and I'll tell you not to get drunk.

Sleep well, my friend.

your friend,

Meade

You got it!

Meade म्हणाले...

Okay. But just let me quote some wise words and then I'll say goodnight too.

"The best things in life are mostly right in front of our nose. We just need to pause long enough to notice them."

And one more: "...it is the idea of having a place where people can come and connect."

So true, my friend. So true.

And now I bid you goodnight. Sweetest dreams. And tomorrow, I'll be back here looking for your wise humorous thoughtful and highly valued comments. I don't always reply, it's true. But I read. And I appreciate yours and everyone's contributions to this great conversation.

Many thanks.

Meade

Meade, you are the best!

I think I speak for a lot of people here.. I wish you ran for something.. like you said we will talk later ;)

Man. I hope it wasn't because in my haste and quickie cutting, I accidentally deleted the key referent, which would be "asparagus," from my previous comment on this thread.

By the way, "the robin reply" to that lack of referent I found to be funny and quick and perfect as all get out.

Shorter: Not just a LOL, so pedestrian, but indeed an extended chuckle, a far, far, far less frequent thing.

We had a robin's nest on our front porch this spring. There were three babies, who grew quickly, no doubt because their parents seemed to spend every moment of the day bringing worms back for them.

Last week, the three babies left the nest and it's been abandoned by the parents as well. Friends told us that robins build nests twice in the spring/summer season and have two sets of offspring.

It was interesting watching them from our living room every day.

Mark Daniels म्हणाले...

Should have said "a robins' nest."

Of course this link belongs in this thread, and it's only obvious I should be the one to do it. (Alert: Susan Hayward ahead.)

Which always reminds of this, on account of some resonant similarities in movement and presence. (Alert: Ann-Margret ahead).
