To answer Althouse's question about political theater below, the reason they didn't do it the other way is because they don't have to: they know the vast majority of Americans won't or can't do anything effective. And, no, standing on street corners waving at cars isn't doing anything effective (especially since teapartiers don't look good in spandex).
And, for another manifestation of that and regarding Rand Paul, the NYT is still boldly lying about what he said, sans correction.

c3, interesting observation. There are "Bearded Irises," and in Italy, poodles are called Barbone Francese, or "Bearded Frenchies."
I knew a lady with a nasally New York accent who once said something a little shocking about her peonies. Four other guys also unanimously heard it the wrong way.

Got a virus today. One of those that keeps creating fake security popups but won't let you open your real antivirus programs. It made me wonder what the intent was. It wasn't trying to trick you into thinking it was a real antivirus alert, or it wouldn't give you a box to close literally every five seconds. It's just there to make your life miserable until you can get rid of it.
Took me about 15 minutes and two reboots. Not the biggest deal in the world. In that time, it made me think of blog trolls. Why would you do that? Why would you expend the effort just to try to ruin the day for a bunch of strangers? If you don't like the host blog or the people who do like it, why go back and spend all that time just so they can't have the discussion they'd like to have? If you're really trying to argue a point, I get it. I also understand spyware that tries to steal info or sell b.s. software, but not trojans that just make asses of themselves.
I don't go to feministing or whatever the worst blog for me would be, to just drop annoyance bombs on them. That mentality, for the troll or the person creating the virus ... it really bewilders me today.
That barberry is looking especially nice.

My aunt and some other Southeastern Kentuckian relatives pronounce peony, "pee-OWN-ee." My mother pronounces it the usual way until she gets around them. That aunt also pronounces "gone" to rhyme with "bone." It sounds weird, but "gone" was probably pronounced rhyming with "bone" in the areas that Middle English scribes came from.
Nice pitchers, by the way. (Oh, dear. You can tell where I was last weekend.)

Ha ha! I wish, bags! I do have the pleasure and rewards of working in the amazing public garden here in Madison where those pics were shot and of getting to make my humble contributions.

I see Michael H made it back from wherever.
This is year 2 of the transplant of my pink peonies. They are the full -- "double?" -- ones. I moved them in July or August of 2007 from our old house where they never did well.
Well this year they did well. They are falling all over themselves. They like the sun they now have and are rewarding me for my kindness of putting them in it.
I think these came from my mother's house in NY and they languished in my shady yard for 30+ years doing mostly nothing.
She told me the other day she got hers (some of which became mine) from Todd Lincoln's house that she visited probably 60 years ago. Is that possible?
