A proposal to make denial of manmade global warming a crime.

Yeah, things are getting nutty.

The pollen is killing me this year.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

I polished my car and now there is pollen all over it. But the polish keeps it from sticking so it makes cool patterns on the paint.

Looking back can give guidance and warms the heart with the good things in life, but we can only go forward.

Out oldest dog is having the same trouble, so it looks like a bad summer for me. Hope this passes quickly for you.

@edutcher: One of our dogs also is having a bad allergy season. The vet yesterday prescribed Benadryl, and it seems to be working well.

You may want to check with your vet, especially about the dosage, because I recall you have small pooches.

I enjoy how all these flower photos come down to discussions of dogs- dogs getting lost and remastered, dogs getting their heads bashed in pop-up books, and dogs suffering allergies!

Speaking of flowers, I loved this movie. Not at all pollenannish.

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

Chip's homeopathy.

My allergies ended when I began making my own sourdough bread. True story. * points * The kind of starter that takes a few days to collect airborne organisms in a slurry, not the kind of starter that activates the organisms carried on the flour.

It was a new-age sandal-wearing long-haired overtly friendly hippy type at Whole Foods who made the connection, not me. My doctor disputes the notion. Herr Doktor avers I matured out of them naturally, the uncomfortable reaction to cats that evaporated supports his position. The reaction evaporated not the cats.

But lately I've been making the most incredible loaves using commercial yeast which by contrast is much faster and more forgiving. By substituting 25% whole wheat for AP flour and fortifying with egg, butter, milk, the results are very tasty, satisfying, and substantial loaves. I recommend it. An idea for added interest is to roughly mill a small amount of grain in a coffee grinder and add it between the folds of finished dough. It's especially easy to make by letting a mixer do the kneading. I do not own a bread machine. Cop out. Plus I object to loaves oddly shaped as cubes with a beater impression on the bottom. Very un-artisean, but that's my bias.

Hahahaha. Just read Laura

I love that lawn.

rachel tot म्हणाले...

I love yeast! One holiday season I made braided sesame challah bread dyed red, green and white to be, you know, ecumenical like. Housemate Naomi objected, until she sampled it.

JAL म्हणाले...

Chip.

We want the bread recipe.

Thanks.

New: photos on the internet with interactive commentary giving pause for thought

Old: A Dec 09 issue of National Geographic I happened to pick up this morning, with richly colored, glossy photos also giving me pause for thought. Two articles caught my attention, one on pollen (Love is in the Air)with close up photos of pollen grains and the other on planets outside of our solar system (Worlds Apart) including images of the Milky way and solar dust.

Worlds apart on many levels, yet connected.

Thanks, I'll ask. I take the puppies for their first adult shots Saturday, so the advice is timely. Our oldest Yorkie is 3 moths shy of 8 and was honking and wheezing all yesterday.

Irene म्हणाले...

@edutcher: Excellent. I thought you had Yorkies, but I wasn't sure.

Our doggies also got their shots yesterday. Or as we say around here, "$hot$."

rachel tot म्हणाले...

My doggie is handling the season quite well, thank you. Guess that's because it's a Springer Spaniel.

I love dogs, both genders except for the females that act, you know, b*tchy. Was that catty? I don't think so, because it's a documented fact.

Let's see-- flowers and dogs. Oh, I know, dogwoods are blooming just now. We need pictures!

My cat has allergies, too.

Irene म्हणाले...

@Adventurer: Wow.

rachel tot म्हणाले...

My horse has been acting appalling for the last three years, or should I day appollen?? Maybe it's on account of allergies and she needs shots just like dogs.

Deborah M. म्हणाले...

I used a bread machine for awhile but it does make oddly shaped loaves. Try making a sandwich out of one of those. Machine made bread made in a machine does not have the same taste as hand made. While it was kind of nice to throw everything in the tub & let it rip, I prefer the old fashioned kind. Chip's recipe sounds worth trying.

JAL म्हणाले...

I'm with Laura -- our older mare was coughing today.

The comments made me think ... mmm.... maybe she needs some benedryl, if that's posssible for horses... Need to check with the vet.
