One day last week I left the apartment after having a somewhat testy exchange with my partner. During the day, I came around to the notion that I was a jerk; so I bought a half-dozen roses at the Hoboken train station and presented them to him when I got home.
He was nonplussed, but I hope they remind him that I love him.
(He's unemployed. If you're in the New York City area and have a full-time job for a 25-year-old hip-hop artist with two years of college, send me an email and I'll hook you up. Thanks!)
Brought in some forsythia branches to force blooms, learned that the New Cat understands commands, was totally charmed by rhhardin's little doby (not to mention the cardinal's singing as the soundtrack).

Generally speaking, everyone moves into the "stiff upper lip" mode well before the "death" has been properly mourned. And for most Americans? Yes, the loss of a job is just like a little death.
@Penny: Thanks for your best wishes. We're hoping that he will be able to get something in the next couple months. He's got a recording contract with a small UK label, but that's not generating any income yet. So, he needs something to keep it all together for now until the music starts paying off.
I've been laid off twice in 29 years of work. Both times it was a welcome break from lousy employment situations. But I have cohorts who have been laid off for more than a year. Yes, it's hard.
In any case, I'm hoping to be admitted to grad school, to get my MSW. We'll see how that goes.

Monica Conyers was sentenced to 37 months in prison on bribery charges today.
She could have received 57 months, but she would have needed twice the talent as a non-minority defendant.

So the soil is full of acid, probably some bile, too; don't worry, a little more of my wit and those sepals will be bright red.

The vast majority of tea parties in the U.S. are still hosted by little girls.

For those of you who never lost a job? Go two days and two nights with NO sleep. Then come back, and we can talk.
What? Not making any sense, you say?
Well, there ya go! lol

Awwwwww...Hey you big ape!
Rush was rather uncharitable the other day.. talking about unemployment, "when the government subsidises something it creates/encourages more of it".
I guess I've always believed that too.. until I needed it.

Lem, You're not "at the margin", where the subsidizations play out.
I tried forcing some flowering quince one year, but the petals came out white instead of bright red. Quite a letdown.
