Truth-telling, hippie-style signage...
We ordered some great food here and took a number...
... outside, we had black coffee and WiFi...
Cement sentiment...
Highly recommended! The Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse.

The interior is sea foam green and aqua, a rather nauseating color scheme for a place where you're supposed to eat. Then you've got the nauseating hippie talk etched right into the sidewalk.
They must have some phenomenal food and coffee.
WV: colasp: When a snake falls down from exhaustion.
We stumbled upon this place while out walking this morning. Best meal we've had all week in Austin and at great prices. The Oven Breakfast and the Neal Taco were both superb. Great coffee. Fast WiFi. And none of the hippies tried to sit with us at our table and lay their New Age bullshit on us. We just might go back tomorrow.

As a non-native Texan and a stalwart fan of Houston and my current home, College Station, TX (Gig 'em Ags!), you're making me want to live in Austin, at least for a little while. Great pictures!
And none of the hippies tried to sit with us at our table and lay their New Age bullshit on us. We just might go back tomorrow.
For hating hippies, you guys sure end up at a lot of hippie joints.
Love the hippie [and the hippie food], hate the New Age hippie bullshit.

Not to worry GM: I'm sure it's just some kind of immersion therapy for them.
Hating hippies? Are you a newcomer here? We are hippies!
Sure looks like yall are having a grand time in lib Austin. Madison South?

You, perhaps, more than your loving husband. I think he loves you and the more bucolic, laid-back life.
Men will do a lot for the woman they love, especially when both enjoy the same thing for different reasons.
You look as if you're enjoying your vacation and your birthday. I can only guess how much work it is to do the blog, in addition to all your other pursuits, so I'm glad to see you're having fun.
WV "forke" What you use in Dear Olde England along with a knif and a spoone.
Man, I'm starting to feel like Instapundit when he was trying to temper enthusiasm for Knoxville. Can you just quit it with the Austin posts? We don't need any more people (like myself) moving here.
Concrete conceit.
Oh yes. Thank you for thinking of us on your vacation and on your birthday. Cheers.
From what I can tell of Meade from the digital distance, he's just a hippie with a haircut.
Overall the post makes me sad. My wonderful breakfast place here in SC closed. The stimulus package was not enough for non-hippie, non-yuppie, non-student Beaufort, and all the construction workers and policemen and EMTs and he like who supported it either didn't have the money anymore, or didn't want to spend it. The place three names, two of which were on the door and the window. No one knew just what to call it. Now we just call it "closed."
A good writer can make any place seem attractive. I mean, check out Sweet Juniper writing about Detroit.
His posts about the specialty grocer and the hardware store had me thinking of renting a U-Haul and heading to the New American Frontier.
Well, actually, Chip, this post made me think about YOU!
Did you follow that link for this place?
What a great website, and most definitely because of the animation they use as you enter this site... Not so much like you when you get to understanding it's a vegan place though. But, oh well. To this carnivore's mind, your recipes are close enough.
It just seemed to show where all your animation AND cooking talents might lead, Chip.
Is this tonight's café thread?
Here's a tip of the mug to Conan.
First off, I'm partial to any resignation letter that starts off with the salutation, "People of Earth."
Second, if it's really true that he has no plan -- other than to reject the one that's been put in front of him by the NBC brass, then he's really got a pair.
My 17 year-old is a big Conan fan, even though I don't let him stay up to watch it live most nights.
Here's hoping Conan heads back to his old gig as a writer for the Simpsons. Or takes his crew to FOX and stomps on both Letterman and Leno.
Shouldn't that be...
"Community-cum-Unity"?
Not that "cum," the other "cum."

That's because it wasn't located in the US territories that are now states or the 10 states Barry added to the Union (you know, the state of SEIU, the state of AFSCME, etc.) or one of the ephemeral zip codes in New Mexico.
All it needed was an address in the Twilight Zone - like where everything else seems located these days.
A couple of the popular eating spot in Atlanta have autographed pictures of well known persons that have eaten there over the last 25 years. Send them a picture of Althouse and Meade eating there for their wall and start a trend.
Have some Hipton Tea while you're at it.

Sad story, David, but more and more familiar. I guess even the decrease in rent, for all the vacant storefronts, wasn't to be made up by selling even the same amount of eggs and coffee at $4.95 a pop, which, face it, is a helluva good reason to get out of bed and dressed, for cripe's sake.
I'm not much of a morning person, so I rarely go out for breakfast. Recently though, I met an earlybird friend at noon at what's become an "upscale", popular local diner. Me? I was thinking "brunch", so I am going to order something "eggy" for a change.
Western Omelette - $8.50
Bacon side - $2.50
Plus coffee, plus tip... and you get my drift. Believe it or not, a nearly $20.00 breakfast!
Should any of you out there be lucky enough to have a mom and pop place still standing in your neighborhood? You had best visit them often. While you are at it? You had best tell all your friends to do the same.
EDH, I have a dirty mind. So "dirty" in fact, that I felt compelled to follow your link to get my mind out of the mud.
That,ll teach me! ;)
Totally empathasize with David from SC and Penny from wheverever.
Louis in Boston, an institution, is leaving Newbury and moving to the Fan Pier.
I don't even know where the Fan Pier is.
I don't know what I am going to do and if I have an emergency rash that can only be cured by purchasing a Prada item I don't know what I will do.
Hugs and special kisses.
By the way, nice rack Althouse. They certainly have kept their shape-you must be so proud Meadsy Poo.
Did I mention I didn't know what I was going to do?
Also, have decided to go to Bangalore with the hubby. Wish me luck. My mother is a mess. We will be leaving in April. He told me there are stray dogs running the streets. I hope to adopt a little slumdog punjabi. I will call her Sneha.
The "Community" art makes me think of those little things we used to do in Junior high:
2 good
+2 be
---------
4 gotten
So cute! So vapid! Not that I don't treasure a great mom&pop breakfast joint.
"Did I mention I didn't know what I was going to do?"
Titus? Yeah you did.
And I was thinking about saying that THIS time, you just need someone to help hold up your ass a tiny bit more.
Forgive me, Titus. I was going for the easy joke.
That was about the same time I realized that you really weren't into what heterosexuals assume is stereotypical homosexual behavior.
You said so many times, and I've listened.
So? If you choose to bite me in the ass for listening, and taking your confusion seriously? Could you at least fix me up with your husband's cousin Apu's friend? ;)
A little dog, "Lula," also has left a sentiment in the cement.
"The interior is sea foam green and aqua, a rather nauseating color scheme for a place where you're supposed to eat."
I don't know, if it was good enough for St Julia it's good enough for me.
verification word: nonyin = yang
Titus? Forget my last line. It was just me self-protecting from what I see as your usual response.
Somebody needs to take the first step.
Somebody else needs to notice.
Got ya Penny.
Hi Palladian. happy new year my friend.
I am moving to Bangalore and then back to Madison for awhile.
My father has alzheimers. My mother has requested that I come back to help.
My life is changing this year.
After 20 plus years on the East Coast I am leaving and I am scared.
I had a dream last night I was living at my fathers cabin which is in Bruce Wisconsin and there were bears all around the cabin, which there can be-not gay bears though black bears.
Haven't been to that place before; my trips through that part of Austin usually take me down Congress or Lamar instead of 1st. I'll have to check it out sometime.
wv: colovac (a vacuum cleaner for the colon? Eww!!)
Titus if the east coast scares you wait til you get to India. It always seemed to me you do not scare easily.
Sorry about your father.
Levittown.

Ha. That's right, you can only guess--incorrectly. The blog is Althouse's main pursuit. She is a slacker professor who produces almost nothing and often comes to class unprepared. No wonder she has time for all that blogging.
"She is a slacker professor who produces almost nothing and often comes to class unprepared. No wonder she has time for all that blogging."
What does it say, then, about a pathetic loser who does nothing except post the same insults about her under different names, AJD?
She gave you a bad grade, didn't she? The grade you deserved.
