In Chicago, on West Lawrence, Meade drove quickly past the lighted storefronts.

I was the passenger photographer, freezing the blur:

It wasn't all blur. Occasionally, on a red light, I got lucky:

In the Audi? You must do some hella yoga.

Funny how Meade slowed to a stop in front of Sexy Girls...what a coincidence!

Jason (the commenter) म्हणाले...

If you break your camera like Bissage did, you could take these pictures all the time.

Meade म्हणाले...

Speaking of getting lucky... (from Yelp):

"Sexy Girls delivered. Definitely not high quality lingerie, but I did like the vast array of stripper heels. This is the kind of get up that is meant to be ripped off of your body and thrown away, like the whores that wear it (think Admiral, down the street)"

अनामित म्हणाले...

It might be the Manolo's store. Then again, it might be the Hoffman's store. The silhouette on the right looks as if she might be draping a Taliban Tie over her head for some reason.

Michael Haz म्हणाले...

Rainy night in the city music. Miles Davis.

Michael Haz म्हणाले...

Those top three photos are superb expressionist 'city at night' photos. They deserve to be mounted and displayed.

Meade म्हणाले...

LOL, Paul Z.

Nice Miles, Michael H.

Now, gentlemen, if you'll excuse me... I bid you all a good evening.

I was the passenger photographer, freezing the blur:

"Freezing the blur" would be a good album title. And if I ever were to use it, I'd make sure that your photography from this post served as the cover art.

Bissage म्हणाले...

How wonderfully evocative, Professor!

And I love the stinger at the end!

Superb!

Bissage म्हणाले...

Oh my dear Lord, Jason! There's really no comparison.

These Althouse photographs are great art.

My little readymades are freakshow novelties.

(But thanks, anyway!)

Bissage म्हणाले...

Oops! I see Michael Hasenstab already used the word "superb."

So I'll change mine to . . . um . . .

NIFTY!!1!!!!!1!!!

I looked in here earlier today, and probably should have left a comment, but didn't. It was the post about Dylan, and Michael said:

I started listening to Dylan when he was in his twenties and I was in my late 'teens.

I still think of him as being maybe 42, tops. I live a life of self-deception."

I was going to suggest to Michael that he should either close his eyes or take out his contacts and "enjoy".

Some things are best seen in bright light. And other things? Not so much.

All it needs is a little film noir voiceover.

Someone like Richard Widmark.

WV "plowee" Titus, presumably.

You can get autumn lights on a bicycle.

A pan to hold the nearby foliage steady as you pedal by, resulting in anisotropic blurring of everything at some other distance.

I like these photos too. Nice work.

Steve Donohue म्हणाले...

Holy crap! That first picture is literally a block away from the apartment I grew up in. That's the corner of Lawrence and Elston. The pizza parlor is Sano's.

Steve Donohue म्हणाले...

I must say, though, that it's not "West Lawrence" Avenue. It's just Lawrence Avenue. There is no east in Chicago, at least until you get to the south side of the city. Every street on that goes east-west on the north side of the city is "west" something.

Really nice.

I opened another window and listened to Michael's Miles while mulling.

These kines of posts and comments are nice on a rainy fall night.

"They deserve to be mounted and displayed."

That statment could apply to the Sexy Girls as well.

Penny म्हणाले...

Meade drove way too fast! I was his passenger. It was all a blur to me!

The last thing I can clearly remember is a place for sexy girls, butting up to a hot Mejicano charcuterie.

Did I hear him udder, "My taco belle!"

AllenS म्हणाले...

"Stop here, honey, I need some new night time outfits."

Ann Althouse was at 3548 Lawrence at the moment of the last pic (reverse look-up of the restaurant phone number.):

What shutter speed and aperture?

KCFleming म्हणाले...

The Palin's Pets store is right next door, and just down the street from her cosmetics franchise Going Rouge.

Issob Morocco म्हणाले...

One question to Meade and Ann, "With other better arteries of transportation, like Irving Park and Foster, why did you take Lawrence, in the rain, no less?".

Eerily Cheerily!

Peter V. Bella म्हणाले...

Gee,
You were a few minutes away and did not stop in for coffee.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

Well, my prediction of Velma Hamilton Middle School was the right High School District (West), but the wrong Middle School, as Obama is going to Wright Middle School. Less traffic tie-ups for a trip to Wright.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

Here's a sunrise photo, not blurry, from a recent trip to northern Wisconsin.

mariner म्हणाले...

Have you every driven past a place with a sign advertising "Unsexy Girls"?

Kensington म्हणाले...

O how I love and miss Chicago, the city of my youth. If the economy ever picks up again, I'm moving back and staying forever...

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

@kentuckyliz It was just my tiny Sony, on automatic settings.

As for the route, we just used Google Maps.

Rick म्हणाले...

Nice detective work, Zokar.
