Birds are assholes.
And people are hilarious. [HEY: Watch the video at the link! I tried to embed it, and the code didn't work. There's another video below, but it's a bonus video.]

I think there should be more Suzanne Pleshette in that mashup.
Nice Aston Martin.
Bodega Bay never looked better. The school house is inland 6 miles or so, in the town of Bodega.
Great place to vacation, just mind the birds.
Last week, a pigeon on a power line shat on the iPhone in my pocket. Karmic revenge: on my way in to work yesterday, two pigeons were massacred by a Philadelphia public works truck.
The birds won. Bodega Bay has had no new development since the Birds was filmed. And where do birds sleep at night anyway?
Yeah, well, here in fly-over country, Mister Bluebird happens to be on my shoulder.
It's factshul: Here, it's all about hope and change. And everything is satisfactshul.
The last time I watched The Birds I realized Tippi Hendron's character in the film, Melanie Daniels, was supposed to be the Paris Hilton of her day.
From class to trash: dancing in a fountain in Rome (with her clothes on, by the way) to sex tapes and overexposure -- in a single generation.
Cute, but the kitschy soundtrack to this video belies Hitchcock's interesting achievement in this rather goofy film: creating very suspenseful situations using no musical cues at all. It's great to watch it from that technical aspect, especially Tippi Hedron's hand reaching for the doornob of the upstairs room in the house. Bernard Hermann had this film off.
Meade...The Song of the South disney film has been MIA since the 60s. Did you see it as a child? I wonder if its on utube now.
Those people in old Frisco are fools. Here in Ohio, we are sensible enough to always were hats.
And allow concealed carry.
Yes, tradguy - childhood favorite. (I might've mispelled satisfact'll)
(And "where.")
I mean wear.
In Ohio people were hats. In America, we wear them. With the brim of our baseball cap shading the back of our neck, the way God intended.
And Bodega Bay is a world away from San Francisco. In Bodega Bay men wear suits to attend children's birthday parties out in the hills. And if you watch carefully as you drive, you will see that the entire world is just a rear projection behind your car. Kind of scary, that.
Here's "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah."
Note the children in the end, modeling racial harmony.
It's a shame if it's white guilt that censors that movie — that would be, ironically, one more form of white dominance.
So it's a prettified vision on the south. It's a children's cartoon!
(Note: I say that without having seen the whole movie.)
My understanding is that it is white guilt that censors the movie, though I am not sure how I managed to see it as a child sometime in the 80s. Maybe I've only seen pieces of it? It is still a shame, though- Br'er Rabbit and the tar baby is one of my favorite stories. I don't remember it well enough to understand whether the racism charges have any merit.
In my Iowa town one way or the other that little bird would have to suffer the consequences of his 'fly-by' nonsense. - In Frisco he'd probably have a lawyer before you could narrow your eyes at him.
Protecting its nest. We have blackbirds and blue jays in the yard and they are persistant pricks. Following you around the property squawking/yelling at you constantly...cheep cheep cheep cheep. Shut up birds I don't want your babies.
My poor cat is dive bombed all the time. The Jays are particularly vicious. Last year the Jay birds 'mysteriously' abandoned their nests and 'went South' early. The cat acts like it is the London blitz out there in the yard, all hunkered down and afraid of the sky. OF course, she deserves it because she really does want to eat their babies.
I was stopped at a light the other day, where there were these plastic lane divider stanchions right next to me on the drivers side. A seagull circled down and nearly collided with my side mirror and instead plowed head-first into one of the stanchions. It squawked loudly and did not get up. As I pulled away, I could see it lying feet-up in the middle of the road. This was just a few minutes after I saw the video of the pigeon being killed in the cricket incident. Birds Are Weird.
I remember when the movie was first broadcast on TV. The images of the pecked people scarred me for life--and I saw it on a small B&W TV.
Speaking of Song of the South, it is taken from the Uncle Remus Tales by Joel Chandler Harris, a Georgian. The good black male figure, Uncle Remus, is wiser than anyone else around. This was acceptible to everyone until censors of our history preferred only the oppressed victim image for all black men. We still try to make points to clients today by telling them a certain action would be like "putting your foot into a Tar Baby". Fewer and fewer of the clients know what wisdom that story illustrates.
