... arrested on drug felony charges.
Questions:
1. What drug?
2. Will Bristol Palin ever marry Levi Johnston?
3. Bristol's baby -- a boy -- is due tomorrow. Will Andrew Sullivan stop obsessing about whether Trig -- born April 18, 2008 -- might have been Bristol's baby and not Sarah's?

Eskimos have another word for snow now.
Why should Sullivan stop obsessing?
Obviously Bristol is being put into induced labor two months early. The hospital, which is completely in thrall to the governor and other powerful Alaskans, will issue her a suitable full-size newborn to use as a prop for a few months until the switch can be made in the public eye.
Conspiracy theories never die. They just get more complicated.
It may well be legitimate but was she targeted to cause embarrassment?
Well, God Forbid we do anything to embarrass St. Sarah of the Holy Right.
Jeeze Louise, the maybe MIL is allegedly a drug dealer. Are the narcs supposed to look the other way so Gov. Palin isn't embarrassed?
OTOH, I could just be crabby from shoveling.
Meth
I'm having a hard time understanding why this arrest should concern me.
As to Andrew...no, he won't. He's gone 'round the bend - and apparently, nobody he respects/trusts has bothered to conduct an intervention on his behalf. Poor dude.
How to approach this?
a)As in Troopergate, Sarah Palin has unfairly targeted an extended family member for revenge. She's livid Levi has not yet married Bristol and so is going after his mother.
b)Sarah Palin is forcing her daughter to marry into the Meth Lab kingpins of Wasilla.
Althouse, I cannot for the life of me understand why you give a scintilla of thought to that light weight fop Andrew Sullivan.
But then I cannot understand why you find Titus amusing either.
Trey
MadisonMan: Why should this arrest embarrass Sarah Palin? I'd like to hear why you think it should, truly.
I'm also betting meth, aka "hillbilly heroin." Mom's a tweaker!
Well, God Forbid we do anything to embarrass St. Sarah of the Holy Right.
Okey dokey now.....lets take a deep breath. My concern is with using govenment resources for revenge ala Clinton and Paula whatshername.
It shouldn't embarrass anyone. I think you should direct that question to bearbee.
Oh, and please notice: anything bad that happens in Alaska for the next four years will be placed by the MSM directly at the feet of Sarah Palin. Bet on it.
Maybe my family is unusual from having a branchless family tree and all that, but I don't have to go far to find all sorts of interesting felonies.
I assume we're ignoring Tax problems here, right?
-XC
One more reason we should only have elites from scandal-free families in government.
You know, like Caroline Kennedy.
Oh, and please notice: anything bad that happens in Alaska for the next four years will be placed by the MSM directly at the feet of Sarah Palin. Bet on it.
And anything in Illinois (especially Chicago) is on Obama. Why is this so hard to understand?
1.Meth
2.Not now.
3.I don't know, but it's entertaining.
Gotcha, MM. That didn't sound like you. Thanks.
Bob said...I'm also betting meth, aka "hillbilly heroin."
Hillbilly Heroin is the term for OxyContin, Rush Limbaugh's favorite candy.
bearbee said..."Okey dokey now.....lets take a deep breath. My concern is with using govenment resources for revenge ala Clinton and Paula whatshername."
So now the troopers, at the ""conclusion of an undercover narcotics investigation," in Wasilla...are now working for the Clintons?
Yeah, that's it.
Palladian said..."One more reason we should only have elites from scandal-free families in government. You know, like Caroline Kennedy."
That's pretty weak...even for the likes of you.
Every time Palladian remarks on Palin we need to cue the Sarah McLachlan ASPCA commercial music. Tragedy!
Darcy said..."MadisonMan: Why should this arrest embarrass Sarah Palin? I'd like to hear why you think it should, truly."
Geee, let's think about this.
Sarah Palin's future son-in-law's mother gets busted for drugs, by your own state troopers, in the city where she served as Mayor...while she's already planning (hoping?) to run for President of the United States in 2012...and you ask why something like that would "embarrass" Princess Sarah?
Gosh...that's a tough one.
DUH.
Would I be embarrassed if one of my kid's in-laws was arrested? I don't think so. I might, depending on the circumstances, go to be with the kid if they needed some support that I could give.
Clarification: sometime in the future. My kids aren't old enough to be married.
"Would I be embarrassed if one of my kid's in-laws was arrested? I don't think so."
If you're thinking of running for President?
C'mon...
I don't even see why Bristol ought to be embarrassed. Why on earth ought her mother be?
I could surely list lots of people in public life whose relatives have gotten in trouble (and Sherry Johnston isn't even a relative of Sarah's**, or even of Bristol's, yet), but I need to go painstakingly scrape ice and hard snow off our vehicles and sidewalks, a much harder task and more time-consuming.
**You know, my parents and my husband's parents get along just fine, on the rare occasions they've crossed paths over the past decade and a half, but I don't think they've EVER considered each other relatives, and nor do we. (Now, each do consider their kid's spouse to be a relative, after all these years, but not with the same sense of responsibility for what that in-law does.) This doesn't strike me as out of the ordinary at all, but maybe we're just weird.
1. Weed
2. Probably, and I hope it works out well for them.
3. I think AS is obsessing about what he sees as the media's giving SP a bye on disclosing what he sees as relevant medical records. And no, he's not likely to stop anytime soon.
Oh, and AS is still an ass.
I love the word prurient. This appeals to that antediluvian urge within me. But, in my experience, some like to dish more than others. Whether Sully fits that category is hardly open to question. Someone has to make the long Arctic night bearable, but she should not be punished for it.
Oh, I seem to remember that Caroline’s uncle killed a girl. Didn’t GHB and BHO both do blow? Clinton? Endless punch lines (you read it right).
It must be wonderful to be a goat and wake up in a new world every day.
I wonder if, had Sherry Johnston had just received a reward of some kind, the headline would have been:
"More Palin family achievement: Levi's mom receives award"
HAH!
What a B.S. headline.
OK, no more procrastination on the weather-work front ... .
Please!
Sherry Johnston is just a lady in Palin's neighborhood.
Their paths barely crossed.
Sarah Palin's future son-in-law's mother gets busted for drugs
That’s kind of a stretch, even for Michael. No legal relationship, not related by blood...Who cares?
Even if it were a close relative, you can't blame people for their relatives. And this lady isn't it even close to a relative.
That’s kind of a stretch, even for Michael.
Oh please. Michael blames Palin for yellow snow.
1. The same drug Obama admits to using while a young man.
2. Probably.
3. No. He is vagina-obsessed.
ENOUGH of this guilt by association.
Hehe... comment after the article... "white trash Republicans, to be expected."
Now, is there any reason AT ALL to assume that Johnston is Republican?
(What is expected, of course, is the "white trash" slur, because Democrats are so much for the lower classes, you know. So respectful of the poor.)
It also would not surprise me if Levi decides that this is something that he simply does *not* need. He may decide not to marry Bristol, not because he doesn't love her, but because people won't leave them alone and won't leave his family alone. (I'm sure his mother wasn't the only person arrested in Alaska last week, but she's the only one in the news.)
As for Andrew... Daryl beat me to it. Anyone who thinks that there are "unanswered questions" about Trig's birth won't believe this proves anything, not if he is in the delivery room and witnesses the birth of a nine pound baby. Preemies aren't *usually* nine pounds but it's not impossible, and maybe full term the boy would have been 12 pounds. How can we *know*? Huh?
Shanna said..."Even if it were a close relative, you can't blame people for their relatives. And this lady isn't it even close to a relative."
I never blamed Princess Palin for anything.
I just think it's funny, and those who say they can't imagine being embarrassed by something like this are just being their same ol' right wing sycophant selves.
It's absolutely hilarious to hear so many say (with a straight face?) that if their daughter's future mother-in-law was busted by the troopers of the state where they serve as Governor no less...is just NO BIG DEAL and not the least bit embarrassing or any kind of problem relating to future political plans.
*And if it turns out to be meth...we're talking about really dipping into the bottom of the drug use barrel, too.
Michael_H said..."The same drug Obama admits to using while a young man."
Really?
Are you sure of that?
It's no more embarrassing than Billy Carter or the brothers Rodham. Less so because there's no blood relation. But yeah, it's embarrassing. So what?
1. Probably meth, but Sarah's fellow grandma-to-be could be growing pot in her trailer.
2. No. Without the motivation of legitimizing the little bastard, there's no reason for Bristol to marry Levi.
3. Nope. Many of us know a set of "Irish twins," so giving birth twice in one year is unremarkable.
I'm having a hard time understanding why this arrest should concern me.
Sarah Palin was the closest we came to having a non-elite President in over a century -- and having a drug dealer in the family shows how non-elite she is. (Truman was an officer and a gentleman by Act of Congress; Reagan was a movie star, etc.)
It's absolutely hilarious to hear so many say (with a straight face?) that if their daughter's future mother-in-law was busted by the troopers of the state where they serve as Governor no less...is just NO BIG DEAL and not the least bit embarrassing or any kind of problem relating to future political plans.
It's only a big deal to chuckleheads like you then yes which is why we can say it with a straight face.
It amazes me how much interest Entertainment Tonight has in the Palins. They've been covering that family from every angle ever since they arrived on the scene.
Irish twins in 8 months is a bit hard to do, though. I knew at least one woman who got pregnant the second month after her baby was born, before having a single menstrual cycle, but that's still an 11 month gap. For an 8 month gap the second child needs to be a premature 6 or not quite 7 months along. A baby who is 8 weeks early is *tiny*.
Hoosier: "It's only a big deal to chuckleheads like you then yes which is why we can say it with a straight face."
First of all, I could really care less if the woman is dealing or doing meth...which is probably what it is.
I just think it's funny.
With that said, I find it ridiculous for someone who lives in Indiana to be inferring that those residing in one of the most conservative states in America would just shrug off their future daughter's mother-in-law being busted for drugs would only be a "big deal" to "chuckleheads?"
I lived in Indiana and we both know that's a crock.
Unless I'm miscounting, Kevin Bacon is about as deeply implicated as Sarah Palin.
chuck b. said..."It amazes me how much interest Entertainment Tonight has in the Palins."
It's amazing to me that anyone even watches Entertainment Tonight.
And if their content bothers you so much...why not stop watching?
Paul: Kevin lives six houses away.
Michael my friend, from the look of your comments you don't intend to vote for Sarah Palin in 2012 under any circumstances, including the Democrats putting up Beelzebub, with the ghost of Adolph Hitler as his running mate. So, from the perspective of whether Sarah Palin ought to be the Republican candidate in 2012, you don't count.
If Levi was my son I'd counsel him not to marry Bristol anytime soon. As young as they are they're going to have a tough enough time without sneering jerks like the MSM looking over their shoulders (not to mention you, Michael). On the other hand, I understand that both Sarah and Todd are excellent shots so leaving Bristol at the alter is not totally risk-free.
I still think Andrew Sullivan needs hospitalization. Toxoplasmosis affects the brain and its symptoms are exacerbated by AIDS. Not that I'm Greg House or anything (House being a fictional character) but it does fit the observed symptoms.
It's amazing to me that anyone even watches Entertainment Tonight.
And if their content bothers you so much...why not stop watching?
***
Who said it bothers me?
If my comments bother you so much, you should stop reading them.
It's common for the wedding to be delayed until after the birth. The mother remains on her family's health insurance until after the major expenses have been covered. Yes, they'll marry.
Big Mike: You're right, I wouldn't vote for Princess Palin if she was running for dog catcher, and I still think the drug bust is hilarious.
Chuckie: "Who said it bothers me?"
You did: "It amazes me how much interest Entertainment Tonight has in the Palins."
Unless of course you enjoy the interest they have in the Palins.
Duh.
3. Nope. Many of us know a set of "Irish twins," so giving birth twice in one year is unremarkable.
Sure, 12 months apart is unusual but unremarkable. But tot eight months apart, FLS. Trig was born April 18th, one month premature. Bristol's baby is due tomorrow, 8 months and 2 days later. Presumably, and hopefully, it will be born healthy at a normal birth weight. We will see.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I will not be surprised that Andrew won't stop obsessing. But it's not because of a lack of evidence.
For someone as evidently ignorant of the menstrual cycle as Andrew, he's sure obsessed with menstrual blood.
Incidentally, "birth spacing" is a topic of some interest among folks who work with family planning initiatives in the underdeveloped world. Apparently the optimal birth spacing from the perspective of prenatal and infant health is 36-47 months. (pdf) Of course, when good medical care is readily available it probably doesn't matter as much.
I found that trying to determine the world record for the shortest birth spacing. Didn't find it.
Amazement equals being bothered in your world. That's also amazing. Keep going.
LMS (Little Miss Sullivan) is suffering from PDS (Palin Derangement Syndrome) and I so wanted it to be called PMS, but that kind of synchronicity just isn't happening right now.
Palin-induced Misogynist Syndrome
"and I still think the drug bust is hilarious."
Michael, I guess maybe its my age but I just fail to see the humor in this. Tell me, do you revel in her addicition, the family's pain, the public humiliation? Or is simply that anything remotely discomforting to Palin makes you smile? Though this isn't remotely embarrassing to Palin. Now to Palin's daughter, yes. I'm sure Mama Palin's concern will be centered on her daughter and fiancee.
So really what is it that so humors you so about this?
OBTW, if you can't see how Palin can spin this to her advantage you are pretty slow.
Tell me, do you revel in her addiction, the family's pain, the public humiliation?
Yes he does, and he's gutless to boot. Michael used to post here as Luckyoldson as all long time Althouse commenters know. He's a coward he won't own up to previously posting as Lucky. He has been asked to leave but he won't. He posts at Huffpo where the comments are moderated but he like's it here because Ann doesn't screen the comments and he can spew any manner of vile crap he wants. He's a gutless prick, end of story.
What the hell is wrong with Andrew Sullivan? Most of the time he's obsessing about sex with men, or at least how "unfair" folks are when they don't share his enthusiasm for fags. Now he won't let the silly Bristol thing drop. There's something very creepy about his preoccupations.
Most people are speculating it's meth.
I'll go with OxyContin, as the National Enquirer reported months ago that Track Palin was an Oxy fiend. Was Levi's mother selling drugs to him? Bristol allegedly was just into pot and booze.
The media showed a lot of restraint by not investigating the drug issues surrounding Palin's family, ignoring the Enquirer's story. But I guess it's starting to look like the Palin family pals around with drug dealers.
BTW, I think it's insane that we hit people with FELONIES for mere drug violations.
What the hell is wrong with Andrew Sullivan?
1) His cock and obsession with it rules his life.
2) His intellectual capacity, which is great - is always subservient to the needs and desires of his cock.
3) He wishes all men everywhere would examine their cocks and then give them over to whatever Andrew's cock tells him should be important that week.
4) Did I mention that Andrew's life is run by his cock?
5) Answer to the game question: Andrew - $1,000,000 for month's abstinence from wanking. Yes or no.
Andrew's cock told him to say "No".
6) Best evidence for all of the above? Andrew is unoffended by all of the above. Andrew enjoys reading all of the above over and over during
She was released on $5,000 bail for six felonies. Huh? Did she have 6 joints?
"What the hell is wrong with Andrew Sullivan?"
What the hell is wrong with this blog? Nary a week passes without a bitchy Andrew Sullivan thread of some sort. It's predictable, just like the monthly Paglia thread.
If his writing is shit, likewise his opinions, then ignore both.
"Sherry Johnston was arrested around noon and booked at Mat-Su Pretrial Facility, according to a booking officer there. She was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond just after 2 p.m"
1. Pot.
"I just think it's funny, and those who say they can't imagine being embarrassed by something like this are just being their same ol' right wing sycophant selves"
There's probably a line of political attack easier to turn on the attacker (and BHO in particular) than "YOU know someone who grew/sold pot", but I'm not sure what it might be.
I don't know why you think it's just pot based on the bond. My state is much, much more strict than Alaska on pot and it's pretty hard to get felony charges for that unless you're a serious dealer.
But in my city you will get a 5th degree felony for possessing a crackpipe with traces of crack on it.
This bond is pretty standard. Felony drug cases where I live usually have $1,500-$2500 bonds for one count of felony drug possession, $5,000-$20,000 for drug traffickers.
I think it's time we change our drug laws. Our last few elected presidents all could've had their futures crippled by drug felonies. There is a whole generation of African-Americans in my city who have their lives crippled by felony drug cases. Felonies nowadays can mean something as small-fry as having bits of Chore Boy with traces of crack on it in your car.
The $5,000 bond and felony charges point to it being a harder drug (meth, oxy, crack...), not pot.
"Chore Boy"?
The left will never forgive Palin for not aborting her Downs Syndrome child. It raises ethical issues they just cannot begin to comprehend.
I think it's pot based on arrested, booked, and released on unsecured bond in less than 2 hours.
Your mileage may vary of course. Where I live, somebody running a meth lab isn't back on the street in less than 2 hours. Also, where I live, possession of an atom of pot with intent to sell will get you charged with a felony. As we'll almost certainly see in this case, "charged with" and "convicted of" are two different things.
"I think it's time we change our drug laws"
One reason why this could actually trend in Palin's favor.
The left will never forgive Palin for not aborting her Downs Syndrome child.
Huh? The left aren't called "bleeding-heart" liberals for nothing.
A Chore boy is a pot scrubber, as in pots and pans.
Should there be another persuasive post you can share next time, I’ll be surely waiting for it. Weedies
