"Even as I try to move on with my life, I still find it necessary to take one more stand and fight."

One wonders how, exactly, Crystal Mangum goes about finding things necessary.

I wouldn't put "rape" as one of the labels since none of the lacrosse players raped her.

So everyone's a "fighter" now. How tiresome. I got tired of this constant "fighting" business in 2000, listening to Gore bloviate his "fighting" way through every public appearance. Now when I hear someone use that term self-descriptively, I immediately think they're full of shit.

"Accusations of rape" fairly fall into the "rape" category, IMO.

Not that I'm the Chief Taxonomist of Althouse or nothin'.

Anyway, I imagine she finds it necessary because "I'm a crazy drug-addict who found it useful to exploit prosecutors' ambitions at the expense of many others" isn't necessarily a winning book topic.

Vicki is a dedicated player. (note weird technical 1930s soft focus effect, partly depth of field and partly motion)

Rape is Crystal Mangum's tennis ball.

Personally, I await the television MOW of Nifong's story, "After the Fall", which will tell the tale of everything that happened between his fall from grace until about 10-15 years from now, including whatever bouts with alcoholism, divorce, homelessness and general dysfunction and malaise he endures.

I'm looking forward to that, as it would be a richly deserved fortune for him.

I still find it necessary to take one more stand and fight.

I wish she WOULD stand and fight, because she sure could use a good ass-kicking.

bleeper म्हणाले...

Nifong's wife is very wealthy, as long as he stays married he will be fine. His pension, which he was trying increase by being elected, cannot be taken away from him. Even on his own he is doing fine.

Mangum is a graduate of NCCU and as such will probably find work in the Obama administration - somewhere in the DoJ I imagine. She is a perfect fit for that crew.

The fact that she is a drug addled prostitute with many children, no husband and a history of mental illness did not prevent her from "earning" her degree and will not prevent her from rising high in democrat politics. She is perfect - an accomplished liar, drug user, prostitute, black and covered with victimhood and DNA samples. All hail the new Condi of the new administration.

Eric म्हणाले...

She's lucky she can move more freely than between her cell and the exercise yard. I think people who make a serious effort to send other people to jail for a false crime should get the time the victim would have gotten. In Eric's perfect world Crystal Magnum goes up the river for good.

Unknown म्हणाले...

Damnit, y'all are disrespecting the narrative!

bleeper म्हणाले...

mcg - you are correct. We are ignoring the statistically nonexistant narrative of whites gang raping black women. What is to become of us? When Nifong is the AG of the US, we will find out, that's for sure...

veni vidi vici म्हणाले...

Is "Mangum" the stale, more-viscous version of "man-glue", the Elmer's like substance that the subject of the article has purportedly made a career of making come forth?

Just asking; if so, she's certainly grown into her name.

mccullough म्हणाले...

I love the "try and move on with my life" bit. As if false accusations of rape and real drug abuse somehow were not of her own making.

How about putting down the crack pipe, taking care of your kids, and not falsely accusing people of things they didn't do. Why not "take a stand and fight" against your own failure you loser.

George M. Spencer म्हणाले...

Durham is not fun city. Lots of poverty. Lots of gang bangers. Countless numbers. Also, lots and lots of very, very far left types who exploited the case for their own ends.

The K.C. Johnson book on the case is deeply dispiriting. Duke threw its students to the wolves.

sean म्हणाले...

What I find disturbing is that Nifong was only following standard academic orthodoxy, which dictates among other things that purported rape victims are always telling the truth. Yet despite the fallaciousness of so much that is preached in our universities, and despite the truly despicable conduct of the Duke faculty and administration, not a single academic has suffered any negative consequences from the Mangum case. All the consequences have been borne by the students, the alumni, the local officials, etc.

University professors remind me of Tom and Daisy Buchanan. A truly conscienceless bunch of people.

bleeper म्हणाले...

Duke, under Brodhead, is a far left institution, and thrives on attacking its own students. The gang of 88 is probably middle of the road when compared to most institutions of higher learning. Many of them are Crystal Gail Mangum clones - dishonest, slutty, foul mouthed, and self serving.

Brodhead will have a place in the DoE soon.

mccullough म्हणाले...

Sean,

Nice Gatsby reference. Has Duke suffered any decline in applications? I wouldn't go there after this fiasco.

A hearty Yeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhh to your comment about "fighting"! Indeed.

It's not like she's fighing for something important like a bike path...

bleeper म्हणाले...

Duke has not suffered on bit, except among people who value the constitution or common decency. In other words, Yankees keep sending their money and their children there.

mccullough म्हणाले...

Bleeper,

Why would anyone let their son go there after this?

bleeper म्हणाले...

You would have to ask those who write the checks, now wouldn't you. Duke's endowment is larger than ever, they still get more applications than they have openings, and by and large, many in this nation think that a university administration that attacks its students, that harbors racists and Marxists, which will violate even the most basic civil rights of their students, is just an all around swell place to send their children.

Apply these same lessons to the nation as a whole and you will see how we can end up with a Marxist in the White House, not that there's anything wrong with that.

ricpic म्हणाले...

A sista gots the rite to lie, ain't she? Is dis a fwee cuntry or wat?!?!

KCFleming म्हणाले...

In the 1980s and early 90s, the myth that "children don't lie" resulted in the incarceration of several innocent people for "satanic child abuse" that never happened at all.

Similarly, because supposedly women never ever lie about rape and sexual assault, the "perpetrator" has absolutely no defense at all. First the sentence, then the trial.

To be male is to be guilty. And a liar like Crystal never ever pays any consequences.

What use are lawyers or the law in a land where guilt is determined by your gender?

Goddamned socialists.

bleeper म्हणाले...

Clearly, Crystal Gail Mangum has the right to lie, and to profit from those lies, as well.

Too bad Roy Cooper didn't have the guts to charge her with making a false report, repeatedly.

mccullough म्हणाले...

bleeper,

She's black so she's not responsible for her conduct. So they can't charge her for lying because it's not her fault.

bleeper म्हणाले...

And of course, it is racist to point that out. It will also soon be sedition.

mccullough म्हणाले...

To his credit, Obama has chided "the black community" to take some responsibility for their conduct.

Hopefully this means that the 70% outside marriage birth rate will at least stay flat during his administration. That Jesse wants to cut Obama's nuts out means that Obama is doing something right.

Bob म्हणाले...

Wow, rather a racist set of comments on this thread. Stuff I'm used to seeing at Ace's place, not so much at Althouse's.

Cedarford म्हणाले...

Eric - "I think people who make a serious effort to send other people to jail for a false crime should get the time the victim would have gotten."

Agree.

I also think lawyer and activist efforts to "shield a victim's past history" is misplaced. If the accuser is a 'ho, accused others fasely of rape, and is a crazy drug addict - judges and juries and DA's offices should have all the facts. Spare me the talk about "Liars, crazy people, and crackwhores, lifetime parasites, and tax evading pole dancers" can be raped, too!" It all bears on witness credibility..and should account for up to 70% of rape accusations being false or something considerably less than "violent rape" being involved. My cousin is a detective, and some of the rape accusations they get are amazing - a coed came in saying that her date demanded a fuck before a concert, she didn't want to, but she really, really wanted to go to the concert, so she did. The day afterwards, she determined it was sex against her will - she was forced to fuck to get a concert ticket her date paid for - thus rape. (The female cop complaint intake officer informed her that the Campus rape center she went to was legally wrong, it wasn't rape - and she hoped the coed had at least found the concert as enjoyable as she had hoped it was.)

As for people like Mike Nifong, he is a textbook case of flaws in the law:

1. We punish those who abuse state power to punish taxpayers and citizens to aggrandize wealth, but let those who do the same from thirst of power, not money - generally go free.

2. All too much, powerful "professional" organisations have removed their powerful members from legal sanctions others face for negligent homicide, unjust captivity - and say that the lawyer's Bar Association penalties or the doctor's AMA discipline and malpractice suits "substitute" for jail.

Mike Nifong only spent a half day in jail for obstruction of justice. He was not hit with perjury charges and misuse of office charges or Federal civil rights violations....because lawyers close ranks to protect one of their own from laws lesser citizens are subject to...

And so-called sex crime expert, ex-prosecutors (Nancy Grace, Wendy Murphy) betrayed the public trust the Bar says it expects of lawyers by throwing out all evidence and "prosecuting" the accused on TV.
Neither faced any consequence from the Bar, and their slander and libel was "OK" under the 1st because the Lacrosse Team was made "public figures" by virtue of media coverage and public proceedings.

IMO, the falsely accused, tried as guilty be media with a financial interest in inflaming public opinion against accused and trying to destroy their lives and reputation need a new Supreme Court ruling to enable people like Grace and Murphy to get their asses sued for damages..

Nor were the "Professionals" of Duke academia, Duke Medical Center or the black bozos of Durham police, town leadership burned by their actions or subject to internal employment or external criminal legal penalty for civil rights violations, bad search warrants, professional misconduct.

(Though many, like Wendy Murphy, Nurse Tara Levincy, the 3 dirty cops, African Studies Dept Head Naimia Wahneemo, President Broadhead will carry the stench of their deeds the rest of their lives - it will always come up. Crystal Gayle Mangum will carry several sorts of stench with her. Some not metaphorical.)

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

The article says her book will be made available online Friday. O jour frabbejeais! Calleau! Callai! Who wouldn't want that?

Therefore, I search:
+preorder +The Last Dance for Grace +Crystal Mangum

These things I do just to see what happens.

First result = carlagirl.net

Now I ask you, no one in particular, who would design a website with white text on white background that makes it impossible to read unless you select the entire page? Huh? Someone who wants to make it difficult to read, that's who would do such an unwise thing.

But wait, there's more. Get the ironing here. I mean irony.

HER name is Crystal Gail Man gum.[his space, not mine]

She is the woman who falsely accused three Duke University students of rape. Yesterday, the attorney general of North Carolina came forward and flatly declared the three young men "innocent of these charges."

That means their accuser is a liar.

Her name is Crystal Gail Mangum.

It is the policy of the news media not to publish the names of rape accusers on the grounds that they should not have to fear public shame for coming forward with word of a horrifying personal violation.

That is a noble policy. But it needs a codicil. The codicil is that if a rape accuser is revealed as a liar, her name should be spoken loudly and often - as loudly and often as the names of those whom she falsely accused have been over the past year.

Her name is Crystal Gail Mangum.

And so the piece continues at length. He's saying her name should be called out. Repeatedly. But he's doing it on a disguised page. See, now this does not compute.

But back here on Earth, in the present day right here on this blog where we discuss these regrettable crimes, this switching back and forth between comment boxes is jolting. It simply must stop, or I'll ... or I'll ... or I'll be jolted, that's what I'll do!

But do you know what is really disturbing me? This is unrelated to false accusations of rape and books written about the incident by the perpetrator of the whole fiasco. My order of miso from South River was delayed because they don't care to ship in warm weather. Real miso is live and the jars have a tendency to explode. I was already waiting but chose to remain misoless because I prefer their superior product and I'm willing to tolerate these inconveniences. Then a charge goes through in the amount of the purchase so that tells me the order is being processed. That was a week ago and I'm still misoless. But when I call South River I get a recording saying they're all busy in shipping. Which means I'm caught in miso shipping waiting hell. And do you know what I'm going to do about that? I'm going to WAIT, that's what.
