Nice close up.

Are you happy with the way your camera captured this flower's color? Certain hues give me the blues. I've found that shooting in low light conditions gets me better results.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

It was a nicely overcast day, and I twiddled with the colors in iPhoto.

What kind of odd person sees a closed door as an invitation to walk right in? I think if you're gonna do that, you might as well remove all the doors in the house.

Nicely overcast -- well, nice if you don't mind the buckets of rain coming down. Out here where it's supposed to be cloudy and gloomy, and it's not, I can only watch radar loops and imagine the pelting rain on our skylights back home. That's such a comforting sound to fall asleep to.

The photo is beautiful -- but I'm not a big fan of blue flowers that are small. Meconopsis gives a nice flower (it's hard to grow from seed though and damn expensive from a nursery) 'cause it's big!

MadisonMan: You're color blind.

WARNING
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves.....

(Poem ends thusly)

.....But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

...I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens . . .

Maybe I need a better monitor.

When I am old I shall carry on much as I do now, except for perhaps a little less eccentrically. And perhaps I shall drop the words "shall" and "perhaps" in favor of "will" and "maybe". And perhaps I shall begin putting periods inside quotation marks like this here little book tells me to, and perhaps not.

At any rate, I think you should consider adding a pair of snippers to your bag and cut those sassy flowers once in awhile.

These pictures you're putting up along with your color twiddling are winning the internet.

Where do I submit my ballot for viewer's choice?

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

I agree with Chip. That poem loses me with its "shall" business. (I know this has come up before, and that I need to make some special exception for the English.)

I can never tell if a great picture is due to the skill of the photographer or to the type of camera used. What kind of camera do you use, Ann?

btw- your photos are all extremely artistic and professional. Just beautiful!

I saw some people taking pictures behind the red gym a few weeks ago- portraits of children, all dressed up. Its totally shaded by trees, and on a sunny day, the light is about as perfect as you could ever get for portrait photography.

UWS guy म्हणाले...

I do believe the poet is English AFIK. I generally stick with American Transcendentalists but even they used 'shall'.

I am not poor but I am proud,
Of one inalienable right,
Above the envy of the crowd
Thoughts holy light

Better it is than gems or gold
And oh it shall not die,
Thought grows old,
When the Sun grows cold,
And mixed with Deity.

emerson...or whitman...can't remember which. What say you now chip?

UWS guy म्हणाले...

...Don't forget Gandalf either.

Hmm, thinking back I think the 'shall' biz. was about present day judges using archaic language?

Shall we put poets in a different category than black robed justicars?

I must thank you Ann, I take some of your photos and put them in my screen saver slideshow folder and they rotate with other photos, old family photos, my own flower photos, pet photos, etc. in a very nice slideshow when the computer goes idle.
