If you're thinking of going to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens to see the cherry blossoms...

... right now, you'll only find budding branches — sprightly and pretty, I think — in the Cherry Esplanade:

But if you go over to the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden, you'll find plenty of sumptuous blooms:

Lonely branching black,
Suddenly pink pink shower --
Spring is for lovers.

Ron said it.
Nice montage of images from top to bottom.

Nice garden. It's almost enough to make me start thinking about visiting New York.

I found some buds today. Intrepid little things, too stupid to hold off until it warms up for sure. Actually they were in a protected area. Sort of. Took pictures of them but my fingers got cold so I only took two. Then left, because it started to snow. Then it stopped. Then it snowed again. Then it stopped. Snowed. Stopped. Snowed. Stopped ...

I learned some trees have a spare set of buds less fulsome than the main set for backup in case the first round gets frozen off.

If you look at Denver on a weather map on any given day, you'll notice the edge of the isobars inevitably cut right through the city. Same with those color plant hardiness zone things -- three of them converge right on the city. So you can never be completely confident in buying plants by the zone. It's confusing.

I'm glad there is nice weather somewhere. Last night another sleet/snow dusting. 27º outside right now. And windy.

Cruel, very cruel.

I'm in the kitchen of my cottage in northern Wisconsin. Eight inches of snow fell between noon yesterday and 9:00 this morning. The lakes remain ice covered. Accumulated snow in the woods has not yet begun to melt.

I blame global warming.

Ann's photos have sold me on a visit to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens next time I visit NYC.

This is the best time of year though Ced. When the cherry blossoms are in bloom the park is really beautiful. But the rest of the park is great and always full of weddings and school outings. Well worth a visit.

You can track the progress of the cherries on BBG's Web site. Most of them are not peaking yet. If you can't make it to BBG, you can visit BBG's new Hanami Flickr group.

Any time of year, you can find out what's blooming by month to plan your visit.
