"Mr. Richardson’s endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver..."

James Carville says "the timing is appropriate, if ironic." Ironic.... It's like rain on your crucifixion day.

What thirty pieces of silver? It's the VP slot. That's pretty close for what Carville and Hillary sold out for.

...describing the tense telephone call in which he informed Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton that, despite two months of personal entreaties by her and her husband, he would be endorsing Senator Barack Obama for president.
“Let me tell you: we’ve had better conversations,” Mr. Richardson said.”

Man, I would have loved to hear that conversation. Hillary yelling, screeching, cursing, throwing things. If any other people were in the same room as Hillary, they are probably in the hospital. I wonder when her coampaign will start demonizing Judas, sorry, Richardson.

Could be worse...he could be as bad as McCarthy.

Yep. After all Bill's done for Richardson, Richardson's betrayed Hillary by endorsing Barack...

Will Bill Clinton did tell Richardson that he would betray him before his cock crowed.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

But that doesn't mean much because Bill's cock crows almost as much as David Pattersons.

Odd the black candidate is endorsed by establishment rich white power brokers, and the white candidate is backed mostly by the CBC. Fortunately, I don't think this endorsement will last as long as the Kennedy endorsement that went on longer than a state funeral.

What a scumbag Carville is.

“Mr. Clinton had told his wife’s campaign that he had received several assurances from Mr. Richardson that he would not endorse Mr. Obama.”

If Hillary is supposed to be in Chappaqua. I’ll bet ole Uncle Festus is now living in Buddy’s vacant dog house for life!!!

Do endorsements really matter anymore? Kennedy's did not help BO win Mass. However, Richardson is a super delegate so do we call this a Super-Duper Endorsement?

Re Carville being a "scumbag", his reaction is a case of follow the money. Carville stands to lose a bundle of influence and consulting bucks if his short-legged but stronghearted mare can't nose out Obama in a photo finish.

This is just excellent. The Democrat Cannibalism '08 U.S. Tour continues, with non-stop appearances coming to a cable news channel close to you on 1080p HD with THX Surround Sound!

I can hardly wait for the Democrat Destructo-Denouement in Denver!

What are these pieces of silver exactly of which Carville refers? Pieces of uncoined silver? Roman talents, Greek Drachmas, denarii, what?

Caiaphas, the Pharisees priest of the Sanhedrin, now there's a mouthful, paid Judas thirty pieces of silver, which he looked at, turned red faced, and threw broadcast onto the chamber floor. He was offended at having his action equated with the services of a slave.

In biblical text, generally speaking the word "pieces" is used in phrases like "a thousand" or whatever "of silver". In corresponding Hebrew passages the word "shekels" is used and is understood as the word in all similar cases.

Exodus 21:32 Thirty shekels of silver is established as the fair price of a healthy slave. (incidentally, and here's where a logical tendency toward conservation is abandoned, the ox is killed) Google it!

I once encountered a modern transliteration that reads $30.00, missing the point entirely.

So is Richardson gonna hang himself? In Carville's world Hillary! is Christ?

James Carvile is a mouldering, festering, dogturd. But he does summon up an interesting image of the last supper.

Who remembers Nixon Agonistes?

"Odd the black candidate is endorsed by establishment rich white power brokers, and the white candidate is backed mostly by the CBC."

The only establishment rich white power broker mentioned in Ann's post is James Carville, who is backing Clinton.

Three of Richardson's grandparents were Mexican citizens, both of his parents were born in Mexico, his mother was a Mexican citizen, and Richardson grew up in Mexico City. While he is certainly white by Mexican standards, the former Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is Hispanic by ordinary U.S. standards.

Steven म्हणाले...

Sorry, my mistake. His father was born on a boat to Nicaragua.

Pat Buchanan, confessing his old, devious political mind was at play, thinks Carville is on target.

While Richardson swiftly proved himself confused, ill at ease, uninformed in debates and press appearances and was always in low single digits in polls - the Media loved their Hispanic candidate and always had him "Up There" in the prewritten narrative of Big, Important People in the 2008 Election.

Buchanan thinks Team Obama and Richardson reached a deal a month and a half ago - goodies for Richardson inc. some spot in the New Obama Nation, plus retiring his campaign debt from the Obama Oodles of Guilty White Cash. Then Obama pocketed the endorsement - banking it to pull out at any crisis point in the news cycle where he wanted to shift attention from a bad Obama thing or a good Hillary thing happening.

Buchanan said he played it nice.

I'd add that Team Obama probably had its writers assisting Obama write and practice his Rev Wright Speech months ago - another thing he would have in the bank to use in case the media ever lost it's reluctance to look at Obama's past.

His speech had the feel of being written carefully and dry-runned through people and rehearsed. It was not something Team Obama whipped up in a day..it was pure contingency..and the part about Ferraro reads as gratuitous last minute updating.

I'm sorry--but does any one think James Carville is anything but a putrid piece of shit? Yeah Jimmah boy-- you drag that 20 dollar bill through any campaign your are associated with.. Jimmy baby has given new meaning to scum. And he is a friend of Bills. You can figure this out all by yourselves.

Whatever Carville's sins may be (and they are many), he has not yet made a political speech denouncing his own grandmother.

TMink म्हणाले...

I especially appreciated the part where Bill Richardson said that Senator Obama is a new kind of candidate who will not play one race against the other.

He leaves that to his pastor.

Eli Blake म्हणाले...

Mr. Buchanan's analysis is idiotic if it is what he said. Richardson is popular with Hispanics. On March 4th, Texas and Ohio voted, and Bill Clinton had famously said his wife had to win BOTH. The race in Texas was exceedingly close and Hispanics make up more than a third of the Democratic electorate in that state. Ergo, if Obama had Richardson's endorsement in the bag then he would have used it then, and likely forced Clinton out of the race that day.

I don't see Richardson becoming veep. I analyzed that from a political point of view here.

Secretary of State, however, he might well become.

Hyperbole much? "Even my grandmother can say racist things" =/= "I denounce my grandmother."

tjl म्हणाले...

Hyperbole?

Obama was suggesting a moral equivalence between his grandmother and Rev. Wright.

An actual moral equivalent for Rev. Wright would have to be found at a Klan meeting or among the Aryan Brotherhood. It doesn't speak well for Obama's sense of proportion to imply that Granny's remarks make her some sort of Imperial Wizard.
