We've had a year for cottontails here, there are often 2 or 3 of them grazing in the back yard. The cats have been practicing sneaking up on them. The dogs would stand a good chance of catching them, as fat as the rabbits are.
The deer are coming into rut early this year I think. But normally this happens closer to the first hard freeze, just before T-Day, and the weather is unusually warm this year. The bucks are starting to make themselves seen, where usually I just hear them stomping through the brush, making noise as their racks catch in the brush.
The does are equally unshy. I'll take the dogs into the yard, on a leash, and they stare at us placidly, 20 ft away, nibbling at the berry block I put out for them. Normally the dogs would lunge at them, but they're just as sanguine, content to pass them by.

I was peacefully reading Althouse comments this morning when, at 11:15, the power went out and I heard a loud WHUMP from the back yard.
One of the very large, very old, and in this case very unwell oak trees in the yard of the neighbor over my back fence (north of us) had finally snapped about thirty feet up and fallen almost parallel to the fenceline, bringing down some smaller trees and bushes and crushing about ten feet of the chain-link fence between our yard and the one to the west.
I went outside to see and came back and reported it to the power co's downed lines line, and they had a troubleshooter here in less than 30 minutes. Fortyodd customers affected, which was about 1/4 of all the powerless customers in the city at the time of the call. (There were 140k w/o power during the big August event.)
Next to the Zionists and elite libtards are the biggest liars in the USA. They'll say black is white, or up is down. Everything they say is propaganda designed to keep or gain power. Their followers are the dumbest and most selfish people in the USA. Leaving aside the kool-aid drinkers they only care about themselves. If they get a piece of the graft, everything is Jake. And everyone else can go to Hell.
So given that, I hope they lose tonight. But if they do, no big whoop. They still wont have enough power.
There were contracted tree-service crews and power co trucks here within another hour, and it took them until 4:15 to clear the debris off the lines, restring, and switch power back on--literally just as it began to rain.

I voted a straight Republican ticket, except for the Senate, because of Mike Collins’ close relationships with white nationalists.

This was expected and normal for the political ebb and flow, and it's not going to change much long term. Yes, and historically, a very typical midterm result. I was thinking about how many times we’ve gone through these cycles in these very pages during the last 20 years with many of the same cast of characters. It’s going to be lit and the Democrats are almost certain to screw it up.
When I was a kid, I played church league basketball in Charlotte. I was playing church league, because I did not make my high school team. And I liked basketball and wanted to play. So I was playing church league.

We were Christ Church. Episcopalians. Kind of a bad ass team, if I say so myself. We played Baptists, Presbyterians, Methodists. I don't remember playing Catholics. Maybe? Or this was an all-Protestant league. Believe it or not, we didn't give a shit. When I was a kid, if you paid me I could not tell you the difference between the denominations. To me, they were just basketball players. There was no black church in our league. I don't know what the black churches were doing.
This particular season, we played the YMCA. Young Men's Christian Association. And this team was all-black.
This was not a big deal. I live in the South. We see black people every day. They see us. We're used to each other. I'm not saying Satan is not whispering shit in people's ear. And the Holy Spirit! What I am saying, is that when white people see black people in the gym, we do not go, "oh, it's a magical unicorn!" So, it was no big deal our opponents were black. We didn't care.
What was of some concern was that they were dunking. During the warm-ups. Slam dunks. Show off dunks.
I was the power forward and I could not dunk. None of us could dunk. That was not a thing we did. So we're doing our lay-ups. But we're also watching those damn show-off dunks on the other side of the court.
"That's another dunk."

Anyway, I don't remember the score, how close it was, nothing like that. It was just another basketball game. Yes, we lost. I don't think anybody dunked on us in the basketball game. All you got to do is keep them out of the fucking paint. But we didn't win the game.
Technically, the YMCA is not a church. You might have noticed that. "Hey, how did this YMCA get on the schedule? It's not a church." Hell if I know. Episcopalians scheduled us with a YMCA team. God works in mysterious ways. Somebody was probably trying to teach somebody something.
So the racist is happy, because the future he predicted ("white boys lose") came true. And the racist feels like he can be lazy and make assumptions about complete strangers.
But, in a parallel universe, the underdogs win. Your assumptions and statistics and models for what will happen in the future, will come true, most of the time. But they will sometimes fail miserably. And nobody knows when that will happen. And so, as basketball coaches teach us, you got to play the game.
In gym class, I once had to pick a team. And I didn't know anybody. Never seen them play. I had no intelligent basis for picking a team. So I picked the tallest black guy first.
All the black guys are laughing. And the other team captain, black guy, picks somebody. And I'm whispering with my #1 selection, "Why are they laughing?"
"I can't play."
"What do you mean, you can't play?"
"I've never played before."
"Fuck. Okay, who is good?"
"I don't really know."
"You know more than I do."
"Okay, uh, Curtis, maybe?"
So I picked Curtis. Curtis is not happy to be picked and to be on the loser team. "Fuck, man," Curtis sais. "Why'd you pick me?"
"Shut up," I said. "I'm captain. Who's good?"
And Curtis pretty much picked the rest of our team. And we did okay, I don't really remember if we won or lost. But my #1 selection was the worst basketball player I have ever seen in my life.

I had one brief scary moment tonight, where I worried that this blue wave might give the Democrats 67 seats.

But now we're trying to impeach people as a matter of course. I feel like damn president for the next 20 years is going to be impeached by the House. Trump will have the record, obviously. Trump always wins! But Democrats are going to get impeached, too.
But what's fucking brilliant is our Constitutional structure, devised by Madison (I guess), with some help by the Holy Spirit (another guess), because Americans wanted to avoid civil wars and riots and French revolutions and shit like that. We also wanted to avoid dictators.
Anyway, impeach away, Democrats. Whatever makes you feel justified. But I will sleep like a baby tonight. That is because you will not get 67 votes. Nobody is forcing Trump out of office. The Republicans are completely united.

Principles express our values and goals; policies are the means of advancing them. If the evidence shows those policies are undermining those goals or a leader undermines the principles they claim to uphold, shouldn't that prompt reconsideration? Sometimes remaining faithful to one's principles requires changing policies or leaders.
