I would comment on your post RH, but my comment wouldn't even be wrong.
I am pretty sure that a couple of the apps I have been using have been "vibe coded" by AI, because they are missing key functions, well, both are just about impossible to exit, maybe the prompts included a request to improve engagement, and thus the Hotel California interfaces.
Pro-baby • The Setup: Angela proudly announces that AT&T’s internet is so fast and easy to get running that "a baby could do it". • The Twist: She takes the phrase entirely literally and hires an actual baby to set up the office Wi-Fi
Driving on US-127 today from Lansing MI to Grayling MI (~145 miles) I counted 11 billboards for Abdul, and zero for Mike Rogers. OK, this part of Michigan is more/less "Republican territory," but I hope Rogers is not taking their vote for granted. He's been running a pretty lackluster campaign IMO.
I cant understand why the "market economy" is so unpopular when I cant afford a house and mark Zuckerprick can buy 10,000. I mean look at mark zuckerprick drinking beer. he's obviously a ruler or the universe. What's wrong with people today?
If the only young'uns would stop following Communists, they'd understand the "magic" of the free market will allow them will allow them to buy a house. Assuming mark Zuckerprick hasn't bought it first.
On an positive note: Former Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema, a Democrat turned independent, is backing Republican Jay Feely, whom she called “commonsense” and a “fiscal conservative.” Feely is running for an open House seat.
Yes but when one reaches an age he should be proud of the young whippersnappers following in your footsteps, man or machine.
Why don’t you focus on computation of maximally difficult minesweeper game patterns, that looks like a perfect application for your work. You could make objective functions that produce patterns reducing the probability of success based on number of exposed empty cells surrounding a hidden block.
On the purely personal level, just found out grandchild #11 is on the way. 11 from 5 children, and one has yet to marry and start having some children of his own. So we're doing our part to stave off population collapse.
From its inception by Karl Marx, a man who lived off of handouts from rich men, socialism has been the favorite of those who look at the hard earned gains of others and can not admit that wealth was deserved and that they themselves did not deserve it.
Communism is driven by two things, jealousy or resentment. Communists would rather have less than they have rather than allow a few to have more than them. It is the lowest common denominator applied to economics. Better to have a few potatoes than a car, fresh food, a cell phone, and air conditioning as long as no one has a mansion.
People are socialist in youth, until they accumulate things by work that they are reluctant to give away to other people.
Society is a balance of all kinds of people and governments perform a grand balance of permitting people to create new drugs and food and consumer goods by letting them keep wealth while redistributing enough to the less productive to care for them. It sounds kind of dirty but what else is there to do at the interface of want and ability to produce? What farmer would grow excess food for others if there was no benefit in doing it? We are not all Saints.
Is Mandami going to have NYC soldiers forcing farmers to grow food for his free grocery stores?
Everyone is a good and valuable person, and I just have to say that, in the spirit of Churchill, capitalism is the worst form of economics there is, except for any other form.
"Communism is driven by two things, jealousy or resentment. Communists would rather have less than they have rather than allow a few to have more than them. It is the lowest common denominator applied to economics."
You mean like grousing over how many houses Zuckerberg owns?
“You mean like grousing over how many houses Zuckerberg owns?“
Exactly, Einstein created advanced theory that let to advanced technology. He did it for acclaim, if there was no benefit he would have gone sailing more, so capping the benefit is kind of like the worker who retires because he gets a pension when he would like to work. no Elon, you can’t have any more money so just sit there and don’t invent anything, man, you have enough money.
The "affordability crisis" is that people don't have enough income to purchase everything they want. Meanwhile, capitalism has resulted in the most prosperous working class in the history of the world, but yokels like RC think that socialism or rent controls or God knows what is going to somehow produce a better outcome.

Putin recently realized that time is running out on the Trump Administration and he needs to put some gains in the bank. So he instructed Trump to lift sanctions.
Those yokels never explain why, if socialism or rent controls or God knows what is so much better, people living in countries that have those things flee to the US at their first opportunity.
Speaking of Churchill, he had a couple of things to say about socialism vs capitalism:
• "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy" • "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries"
For the clueless socialists here, he meant "vice" and "blessing" ironically in that second quotation.

Meanwhile, capitalism has resulted in the most prosperous working class in the history of the world, but yokels like RC think that socialism or rent controls or God knows what is going to somehow produce a better outcome.
We are all coddled boomers that could afford our homes. Over the last several decades the cost of a home and vehicles exploded compared to the average annual income.
We are sitting in a house we bought 5 years ago with a 2.75% mortgage. We paid 2.5 times my yearly salary for it.
I at least have the decency to understand why people are pissed off that the average home today costs 5-10 times most people's average salary.
Fortunately for the younger generations that we fucked over boomers, who own ~55% of homes, are dying off. I am looking forward to a housing price correction.
A couple of days ago a bunch of high-school girls on a track team in Washington State faced the prospect of having to compete against a male in a track meet, a boy declaring himself female so he could improve his chances. The girls did more than just lose. They refused to compete, by lining up at the starting line and then walking away after the race started. Good for them.
The rest of the people associated with the team, the high school, the school board, and whomever else are disgusting cowards, Good Progressive Germans, forcing these girls to stand for themselves without a protector. But it turns out they have more guts amongst themselves than all the grownups put together.
This next generation is starting to shape up just fine.

LOL!
The retard is crying because now everyone knows why diesel prices are so high.
So back to the Russian Collusion hoax it is!
Don't worry traitor. Europe's globalist rulers are going to fall no matter what happens in the midterms and Democrats will not be able to stop the industrial revolution before 2028.
"I at least have the decency to understand why people are pissed off that the average home today costs 5-10 times most people's average salary."
People should be pissed off at state and local governments that make it so costly or impossible to build more housing, not at the people who are able to afford expensive homes, or at landlords who have invested money in housing.
“ Putin recently realized that time is running out on the Trump Administration and he needs to put some gains in the bank. So he instructed Trump to lift sanctions.”
Cognitive dissonance:
A. If there is one US Marine on Iranian soil America should rise up in righteous anger at the loss of American lives.
B. We will pay billions to support Ukraine in killing large numbers of Russians who are killing large numbers of Ukrainians.
There are no simple answers, and partisan use of serious complex world shaking forces that the US is trying to contain while dealing with economic effects is, I’ll say it, disgusting.
The US lives in the world it does not own the world IEE, get over your JFK fantasies.
So one theory I have heard regarding why Musk has put a speed limit on Starlink receivers is that it doesn't really affect drones, which slow down when they are ready to strike, but will prevent the ballistic missiles that the Germans plan to give Ukraine from operating using US assets, because launching missiles at a nuclear power is kind of stupid, and we don't want our fingerprints on it.
"There are no simple answers, and partisan use of serious complex world shaking forces that the US is trying to contain while dealing with economic effects is, I’ll say it, disgusting."
Rich has extolled the virtues of Ukraine bleeding Russia for us.
America has always been full of dumbshits who swallow the boob bait. You'd think anybody with a brain in their head would be against sending billions to an obscure country 5000 miles away that has zero to do with the USA.
But you'd be wrong. Why them thar Rooskies are trying to de-stroy our noble allies the ...uh.. ukranians. Yeah,..the uh..ukrainians. Why if Kiev or Kyviv isn't controlled by Moscow ( like it was for 500 years) then the USA will fall the next day. Them thar Roooskies will CONQUER THE WORLD.
Really.
we all know southern boys just love war, and dont mind who they're fighting. But shouldn't the rest of us not be so stupid?
Musk isn't throttling Starlink, it has never been allowed for use in launching attacks. The US government owns the satellite system Starshield which is the military version of Starlink. Musk has no control over how it is used. I'm sure you already know this, or perhaps you really are a moron.
On a happier note, the Brewers are up 6-2 in the bottom of the 9th. The LA manager's decision to stick with Snell in the 7th inning will go down as one of the biggest blunders of the post-season. And that's not hindsight, I was scratching my head about it before he gave up two home runs. He was nearing 100 pitches and walked the leadoff batter.
RC, how can anyone show you you're wrong when you haven't said anything substantive or specific. I know you're a big fan of rent controls. Even a liberal Dem like Larry Summers once said, "Short of war, there's no surer way to destroy a city's housing stock than rent controls." Milei removed rent controls in Buenos Aires, and thousands of apartments that had been kept vacant came back on the market. Rents actually declined.
"SpaceX enforces a 100 mph (160–161 km/h) speed limit on Starshield (military-grade Starlink) terminals operating in motion in Ukraine._ "
"Elon Musk stated on X that Starshield systems are controlled by the U.S. government and that limits on speed or usage are decided by the U.S. military and the President of the United States (POTUS)."
You are right, though, I used "Musk" carelessly, Trump did it.
One wonders at the people lamenting the lack of affordable 'whatevers' that are here bombasting the internet with comments all day, every day, instead of, you know, working at an actual job so they can afford what they're complaining about missing.
And some of us were commenting against Ukrainian adventures back when they were new and sexy. You know - in 2014, and then 2020, when the million-dollar taps were opened up. I guess the story is now, we all supposedly love it. I guess we all must have pinups of Victoria Nuland over our desk.
Seriously, the closer we get to midterms, the nuttier some of these cranks are getting. Just cash the checks boys.
The facts are as stated. Things are fucked up. Zuckerprick is worth 250 billion and buy 10000 houses. And his friends can buy a lot more. Meanwhile the average under 40 cant buy one.
So what is the solution. Well, we got the current situation through the so-called "Free market". Guess if like the status quo - well good for you. But if you don't - we need change. Call it "communism" or whatever you want.
I think Achilles has laid out a pretty solid case for why young people feel betrayed by capitalism. Capitalism is controlled by banks, who lend, or don't lend the money, based on its own reasons, and which is mostly not its own, but is provided by the government, which creates the money on the loan and retires the money as it is paid back. So the people running the banks control who gets the government created money, which sounds like socialism for the extremely wealthy, to me, anyway.
Here is a good prompt for Chat: "Is money created by lending?"
"instead of, you know, working at an actual job so they can afford what they're complaining about missing."
When I was 25, I was working two jobs to make the payment on a one bedroom condo with a 14.5% mortgage. But today, I'm told I don't understand the difficulty of "affordability".
BTW I dont get a fuck what Churchill said. used to be a Churchill fan. Then read more about him. Did you know he was bought off by Bernie Baruch in the early 30s? And he loved war. Graduate of Sandhurst, old boy.
Wanted war in 1914 against the Kaiser. war against Russia in 1919. War against Hitler in 1938. War against Russia in 1946.
Signed off on the immoral "Morgenthau plan" in 1944. Wanted to drop Antrax on Germany in 1944 and kill millions. Loved "uncle joe" until he turned against him.
“ The facts are as stated. Things are fucked up. Zuckerprick is worth 250 billion and buy 10000 houses. And his friends can buy a lot more. Meanwhile the average under 40 cant buy one.

Ok that is good, so we take away all of zucckerfucks money and give his 10,000 houses to someone else, what next?
Basically the system is that private entities collect interest on government created money on just about every enterprise in the United States. It's like a system of private taxation.
I'm off to bed. You characters have nothing more than "Well you said X, prove it" To which I respond - OK you prove ME wrong. And... your response is: Oh, sorry no can do.
So, imtay, you aggressively responded to my comments about the distinction between Starlink and Starshield by actually acknowledging that what I had said was true, but acting as though it was a distinction without a difference.
Musk has no authority to change the terms of use of Starshield. Any change made was made by the Trump admin, and rightly so.
Trump told Z "do not attack the refineries" Z promptly did the opposite, and then cried "betrayal!" when Trump responded. This stupid war needs to end. How many luxury cars should the US taxpayer buy for the corrupt Ukranian elite?
Here's another one, buy a building on a loan against your stocks, while the building appreciates IRL, on your taxes it depreciates, and you can apply those "losses" to your income from the stocks, which will almost certainly grow at a rate higher than the interest rate on your loan, and pay hardly any taxes.
If you pass the building along to your children, the tax basis gets reset and all of the taxes lost to the government will never be recovered. Of course you can potentially take a beating if you sell while you are alive.
Of course a serious stock market correction blows up the whole plan, but it's not the rises in rents that are the problem, because if you control rents, the buildings will go to hell, it's inevitable, it's the taxes that the building owner legally dodges that is the problem.
Oh, incidentally you bought the building with money expressly created for the purpose by the authority of the government, and your bank collected interest on it the whole time.
arnacleBay imTay (9:53pm) repeats Russian propaganda. Ukraine doesn't need any of the ballistic missiles Germany refuses to supply them, because they've built their own. They've been using the Fire Point FP-9 for a week or two now. It has a payload of 800 kilograms and a range of 850 kilometers. That's ~1,760 pounds and ~530 miles, putting Moscow (470 miles from Kyiv) in range.
As for losing Odessa and Black Sea access (9:57pm), Barnacle Jaq, imTay, whoever hasn't heard that the front in Donbas is moving steadily eastward as Ukraine retakes ground and kills or captures Russians by the hundreds, while Russian civilians wait in miles-long gas lines and can't call a cab or buy liquor or access their bank accounts because Putin stupidly hit a Ukrainian data center on October 1st and Ukraine responded by destroying three Russian data centers on the 8th, and another (I think) last night.
Old and Slow. Trump claimed there was a truce, Russia hit a Ukrainian power plant less than two hours later, Russian TV propagandists say there was never a truce, and Ukraine hit Russian power plants only after theirs had been hit during the supposed truce. Try to keep up.
The rules of College debate are, an affirmative presentation, a negative to the presentation, and a rebuttal.
So how do you argue on internet comments. Ideally someone makes a statement or statements affirming or denying some event or proposal. The opponent will argue against. And there may then be back and forth clarification.
That is how arguments have been done for 2500 years.
As I said way back when Russia invaded Ukraine- in violation of various treaties, but then, it's Russia, neither side is "The Good Guy". The Ukrainians had been poking the Russian Ber for a while. And there's no love lost between ethnic Russians and ethnic Ukrainians. And many ethnic Russians did live inside Ukrainian boundaries. Not that you or I can tell the difference, but they can. Americas are the most ethnic blind people in the world. Even in Britain they can tell at a glance whether someone is English, Welsh, Scottish, or Irish- or even Cornish or a Channel Islander. I can't, and I'm part of all of them.
One thing the Ukrainians did prove, right off the bat- the Russian Army is absolutely horrible at it's job. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together already knew that- but that's another story. And as Russian hardware failed, again and again, to be superior to 2nd rate US hardware, Xi started looking. And realized his hardware was based more on freely shared Russian hardware then stolen US blueprints. Then with further examination- and finding many of their missile silos filled with water (yes, that is true) Xi realized his military isn't exactly up to snuff. China hasn't exactly proved it's mighty superiority in border clashed with India, Vietnam, or anywhere else.
And then we have this little kerfuffle going on in Iran. Which no longer has a navy or air force, or much left in army hardware. And what army is left, well, the IRGC doesn't trust them... Xi looks at that too. He's going to be dead from old age or coup before he's able to muster up forces to really threaten Taiwan.
Before long we're going to have Rods from God in orbit- if we don't already. There are rumors. Elon Musk's launch rate currently dwarfs the rest of the world's launch rate. And it's growing. Don't know if we can call it exponential growth, but with Trump- and a successor Republican POTUS in office, no one else is going to catch up. We lose that advantage as soon as a Democrat POTUS is inaugurated. I'm sure IEE supports that. The rest of us, not so much.
Everything is connected to everything else. Change one thing, it cause change in another. We are back in control of the Panama Canal that a Democrat gave away. We have destroyed Iran's military- something that presidents between Carter under whose administration the War started and Trump couldn't or wouldn't do. The Ukraine invasion was a wildcard- I can't think of anyone who foresaw it before the day it happened. And when it did, I can recall all the "experts" telling us Russia would win within a week. I wonder what they're experts in, really.
There are a crapload of balls in the air, and Trump is juggling all of them. I don't know what he's doing with all the balls. But he's making everyone observing him dizzy trying to catch all of them.
His one big domestic problem? Squishes in Congress aren't listening to Trump or voters on illegal immigration. Yes, most of us want all illegals gone. All of them. And all of us who aren't making money hiring sub-par H1Bs working for peanuts want the program ended. Period, end of discussion. They're a big part of why hosing is so expensive.

If a Reddit post is true, the man who was killed by a Six Flags ride, turns out to be a real life ‘Final Destination’ unlucky fella.
“Georgia educator who died after falling from a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia had survived cancer, a serious battle with COVID-19 and a car fire before his death, according to a family friend.”
….don’t by a building with a margin loan against your stock, buy a building with a mortgage and use the equity in the building to buy stocks. Safer that way…margin calls suck…
….my niece and her husband aren’t yet 25 years old but she has no college debt because she took advantage of military family benes, lived at home during school. He’s a pilot and she works in a sporting goods store. They just paid off their old reliable pickup and crappy car and are saving for a home while he still manages to take all the 100 percent return in his company 410k. They listened to their uncle and took out a fidelity credit card that gives them 3 percent back deposited and invested in vti every month. They’re credit score looks great and will qualify for the best rates. They’re going to skip the starter home and are looking at 3 bedrooms. They’ll be ready in about a year. Like I said mid 20s…
…here’s a taste since instead of reading it they’re making the arguments it addresses…
“We are also hard-wired to zero-sum thinking. If rich people got rich, people surmise that they must have taken it from someone else. Well, that was true for thousands of years. It still is true in many autocratic regimes. That our billionaires got rich by inventing new products and companies and making all of us fabulously better off too, is outside most human experience. And everything is zero sum in the short run. If a Tesla were $10 cheaper, Elon Musk would get less and you’d get more. You get more eggs if you carve up the golden goose. Abundance takes patience.
People are by nature tribal moralizers. They view the world as a battle between good and evil, our tribe vs. their tribe. If we can just quash the evil people and force them to be less greedy all would be well with the world. Adam Smith’s vision, how greedy self-interest serves the public good is unnatural.
People think in simple stereotypes. The large landlord can surely “afford” to lower rents for the struggling “working family.” The market accommodates unimaginable variety. Some landlords are hard-scrabble immigrants who saved a lifetime to run an apartment building. Some rent-controlled tenants are well-connected trust-funders who moved in decades ago.
People also don’t see the unseen. We see the lucky family that got a break on their rent. We don’t see how immigrants, minorities, people with children or pets, anyone with sketchy credit or little cash, or those that lost the affordable-housing lottery can’t get apartments at all. We don’t see the apartments that didn’t get built.”
…one starts out that way. Economics education begins and ends in kindergarten for most people, where showing up means you get an equal piece of cake. As adults for some reason people still assume there’s just one cake instead of recognizing there are people who make more cake…
…it’s just too compelling to wish government will give us something for free, despite all the evidence government is a terrible provider. Obamacare was supposed to solve all out needs and there were zero political roadblocks to implementing whatever they wanted bit instead of the promised utopia we’re back at the arguments again…
…that’s all for now. I’m off to bring a relative to the do-nothing ‘intro’ meeting at a doctor’s office so the office can bill medicare for services not rendered…
1. The federal government starts taxing State governments.
2. Start with a 100% tax on state government revenue from property taxes on primary residences.
One person. One primary residence. This includes kids. If you want investment properties have kids. Make mortgage fraud a federal crime and start throwing people in jail for it.
Shift all property taxation to investment property and commercial.
3. 100% tax on state income taxes. Eliminate the income tax. Shift all taxation to Capital and to DEI/HR/Government bullshit jobs.
Our government wont have any tax revenue if we don't start taxing robots soon. We also need to dissuade companies from hiring lawyers, HR, and people who don't make things.
4. Stop propping up banks and financial bullshit. LET ASSET PRICES FALL. FUCK YOU BOOMERS. Put a special 50% property tax on all properties owned by institutions with more than 100 single family homes.
Ann and Meade: You absolutely MUST go to a game. Hang out in the parking lot and watch prices drop before the first pitch. That’s what my son and I did. Totally worth it.
Golden Globe Race (GGR) around the world non-stop 1968 technology sailboat race has penalized Mara - a women's rights activist in the race - 16 days for making a phone call that ought to have resulted in a 1 day penalty. Mara and her team probably not taking it well. The satellite phone dropped out 6 times and they redialed, so GGR counted it as 6 phone calls. Mara live stream every day except GGR is refusing to stream her probably until she adjusts her attitude. Mara is a promoter so it remains to be seen if they can crush her spirit or GGR winds up where it belongs. Something to follow.
Mara is fun to follow when she's doing sailboat stuff, not so much (matter of taste here) when she's talking. Some sailboat stuff takes strength so she does it less nonchalantly than the guys streaming. Talkwise her mind is full of fluff.
The GGR daily tracker update guy seems to be in charge of penalties, and comes off as a public relations moron. So there's a good guy and a bad guy in this drama.
Tell me that didn't come out an adults mouth. capitalism is about markets. Everything is markets. Banks respond to markets. They don't make markets. Investors make markets. Banks hold money. The biggest third party manipulator of markets is governments. How can you be as old as you are and not know any of this?
There seems to be some faux delicacy about whether Lucy H Craig is really “Jane Doe”, the Cornell accuser. So far as I’ve seen, Ms. Craig has not denied it, nor has any witness to the events in question said she was not present, nor has anyone said that Ms. Craig was somewhere else at the time. (This echoes reticence about naming Eric Ciaramella as the “whistleblower” on the Trump/Zelensky phone call.”)
@full moon— the comprehensive saturation coverage of the Cornell frat scene exposes the chasm between progressive journos, who think they are chronicling MeToo2, and the eager audience reading every twist and turn because they simply can’t believe the depravity and cluelessness that reigns on college campii.
"If you pass the building along to your children, the tax basis gets reset and all of the taxes lost to the government will never be recovered. Of course you can potentially take a beating if you sell while you are alive."
Exactly what has the government done to be entitled to "all of the taxes lost?" (which are mainly the product of inflation).
The assumption that "the government" has a right to grab property for any purposes other than infrastructure, defense and law enforcement is a big part of the problem.
I don't see how or why anyone should be tasked with defending "capitalism" (private ownership of property) when the alternative argument comes down to "we have a right to take it."
I say the burden is on the takers to prove that their "system" is better and morally justifiable. The evidence of history says hell, no.
"There seems to be some faux delicacy about whether Lucy H Craig is really “Jane Doe”, the Cornell accuser. Agreed. I suspect that, given Ms. Craig's propensity for suing anyone remotely connected with her debauched escapades, the default is "why take the chance?"
Good grief what a monotonous economic discussion. Going in circles. Reminds me of the saying: “If you laid all the worlds economists end-to-end they wouldn’t reach a conclusion “.
"The tragedy of this, in my view, is that Trump’s unpopularity is unnecessary. It is not so much his core policies that are under water, although he should have done a vastly better job of explaining, justifying and charting the progress of our conflict with Iran. I think it is mostly Trump’s unforced errors on minor issues and his inability to avoid making headlines on pretty much a daily basis with thoughtless and sometimes stupid pronouncements that have caused most voters to give up on him. It didn’t have to be this way. "
Trump is throwing economic lifelines to Putin, who is simultaneously providing Iran with logistical support against… checks notes… the United States. And people in the comments are complaining about Zelensky grandstanding. Make it dumber. You can’t.
Zelensky has little choice. Russia is waging war without restraint, and a war cannot be fought on terms where one side is constrained while the other is not. He’s standing up to tyrants on two fronts and refusing to back down. The rest of Europe should be learning from this man, not lecturing him.
The scariest deal with the Soviet Dems is their lust to force us into a Universal Health Care/ Government health care run system.. Medicare for all! or whatever BS name they use to sell it. It will be a tax hiking nightmare. Talk about affordability? It will make life very expensive. The Canadian / UK NHS health care systems are unpopular and are both failing right in front of us. The Leader of the Canadian health care said so recently. - US Soviet Dems demand it. Of course the Soviet Dem leaders pushing it will still have their private system. THEY will not wait in line for their healthcare. Massive tax hikes and long wait lines for care = the built-in reality inside of Universal health care.
I hear leftist whining that they have to wait a few weeks for an appointment. ah. They have no idea what is in store.
John Hinderaker has been moaning about what an uncouth failure and embarrassment to Republicans Trump is since 2015. Spare us. We've heard it all before.
Jack Smith's team and the Biden Justice Department sat on spreadsheets covering more than 639,000 Republican donors, supporters and voters, and buried in there were the people who bought red MAGA hats, what they bought, and the shipping address where that hat got delivered to their front door. Somebody please explain to me how a hat order has anything to do with a criminal case against a president.
Names, dates of birth, home addresses, emails, whether you are a registered Republican, your congressional district, your job and where you work… the sample occupations in Senator Grassley's memo are retired, pool tech, driver, logger, janitor, doorman. Credit card information down to the last four digits, donations as low as one dollar, over 148,000 rows of mostly small dollar donors, data going all the way back to 2005, and according to Grassley it was shared with FBI agents. These are not cartel bosses or foreign spies, these are your neighbors who sent twenty bucks and bought a coffee mug and a door mat because they love their country.
Let me put it to you like this. If a Republican administration built a spreadsheet of everyone who bought a Kamala hoodie, with their birth date and home address, and handed it to federal agents, the media would run it wall to wall for six months and call it the end of democracy. When team evil does it, it gets called an investigation and you are supposed to say thank you. How is this even a thing in America? Who approved it, who signed off on it, and which agents had their hands on your home address?
Grassley called it incredibly invasive and said it shows Smith and his partisan team aimed to map out the entire Republican Party apparatus. He is being polite. Make no mistake, you do not pull the shipping address of somebody who ordered a hat on November 16, 2020 because you are worried about one man, you pull it because you want to know where all of you live, who you give to, and who signs your paycheck. It is a target list with a government letterhead on top.
I know what it feels like when this system decides you are the enemy because you spoke up, and most of the people on that list have no idea their name is sitting in a federal file right now. And yet Jack Smith still walks around like he is the injured party.
After 4 years of Bidenomics, Indefinitely Extended Excursion thinks he can convince us to vote to bring it back. I might be 80 but senility has not set in.
A small historical correction: The famous observation that rent control may be the most efficient way to destroy a city, apart from bombing, was made by the Swedish economist Assar Lindbeck in 1971.
Summers and a large majority of economists have expressed similar concerns about strict rent controls, particularly their effects on housing supply, maintenance, and investment.
But the bombing comparison was surely a rhetorical flourish by the socialist Lindbeck. Rent regulation can also provide meaningful benefits to existing tenants, including greater housing stability and protection against displacement. A 2019 study of San Francisco found both effects: rent control reduced tenant displacement but also reduced the affected rental housing supply by about 15%.
It's also worth distinguishing traditional complete rent freezes from more flexible rent-stabilization policies. Many more modern laws permit annual increases rather than permanently freezing rents. California, for example, generally allows increases of inflation plus five percentage points, capped at 10% annually, for covered housing.
These approaches don't eliminate the economic trade-offs, but their effects may differ considerably depending on how they're designed. The challenge is balancing protections for existing tenants against the need to maintain and expand the housing supply.
For an interesting discussion of Lindbeck's quotation, see: https://www.econlib.org/rent-control-is-worse-than-bombing/

Affordability Part 3. Why is the market economy so unpopular?

• The Setup: Angela proudly announces that AT&T’s internet is so fast and easy to get running that "a baby could do it".
• The Twist: She takes the phrase entirely literally and hires an actual baby to set up the office Wi-Fi
"Why is the market economy so unpopular?"
Because it's easier to get the government to give you something you didn't earn than to earn it yourself?

On an positive note:
Former Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema, a Democrat turned independent, is backing Republican Jay Feely, whom she called “commonsense” and a “fiscal conservative.” Feely is running for an open House seat.
So youre ignorant about economics and history not new
So you're a weird stalker. Not new.
Read the story you might learn something and like it…

Yes but when one reaches an age he should be proud of the young whippersnappers following in your footsteps, man or machine.
Why don’t you focus on computation of maximally difficult minesweeper game patterns, that looks like a perfect application for your work. You could make objective functions that produce patterns reducing the probability of success based on number of exposed empty cells surrounding a hidden block.
Communism never ends well in fact on a mountain of skulls a 100 million deep with blood ans famine
"Communism never ends well in fact on a mountain of skulls a 100 million deep with blood ans famine"
Well, yeah- but does the government buy you a house if you can't afford one? I think that's the concern here.
Which communist country was known as a homeowner's paradise? There must have been one, right?
“You mean like grousing over how many houses Zuckerberg owns?“
Exactly,
Einstein created advanced theory that let to advanced technology.
Communism is also greed and sloth.

"What farmer would grow excess food for others if there was no benefit in doing it? We are not all Saints."
Nor are we slaves.
Speaking of Churchill, he had a couple of things to say about socialism vs capitalism:
• "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy"
• "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries"
For the clueless socialists here, he meant "vice" and "blessing" ironically in that second quotation.

"people living in countries that have those things flee to the US at their first opportunity."
Sanctions.
The New York Times seems to have drafted half its newsroom to investigate the alleged fraternity gang rape at Cornell. Since “Jane Doe” filed her lawsuit about the 2024 incident two weeks ago, the Times has run more than 50 news stories, seven videos, four podcasts, a major magazine piece and a few letters to the editor on the case. No word yet on a Broadway musical.
It’s been covered by ABC, NBC, CBS, all the cables and national newspapers, The Telegraph (UK), The Guardian (UK), The Jerusalem Post (you’d think they have more important things on their minds), Le Monde and Le Figaro, despite the French’s usual blasé attitude toward orgies.
.
I also think that Trump wants Ukraine to make a deal before they lose Odessa and access to the Black Sea.
Yeah, there are only two alternatives:
1) Support the out-of-control "Free Market" with Zuckerprick having $250 billion and nobody under 40 affording a house
and ...
2) Communism with 100 million skulls.
Damn you people are stupid. Or dishonest (more likely).
Oh, look- someone thinks the "free" market is out of control.
Here's a test: Open a business. See how little control the government exerts on it.
"Here's a test: Open a business. See how little control the government exerts on it."
Even George McGovern got it in the end.
“ Yeah, there are only two alternatives”
Don’t just be a critic, RC. Give us your solution.
Musk isn't throttling Starlink, it has never been allowed for use in launching attacks. The US government owns the satellite system Starshield which is the military version of Starlink. Musk has no control over how it is used. I'm sure you already know this, or perhaps you really are a moron.
Again the dumbshit "Capitalists" LOL - aka supporters of the staus quo cant make an argument for their position. Instead its "well prove me wrong".
Yeah, you are wrong. Prove otherwise, dummy.
Show me where i'm wrong, snark boy.
RC, I love your imitation of the speech of Americans from the South. Did you watch the show HEE HAW when you were young?
RC, how can anyone show you you're wrong when you haven't said anything substantive or specific. I know you're a big fan of rent controls. Even a liberal Dem like Larry Summers once said, "Short of war, there's no surer way to destroy a city's housing stock than rent controls." Milei removed rent controls in Buenos Aires, and thousands of apartments that had been kept vacant came back on the market. Rents actually declined.
“ Show me where i'm wrong, snark boy”
In order to be shown wrong, one must present a proposition.
Its the same ol' game. I assert. Then its "Prove it bro." And then I say "Prove me wrong" and then its "you first, bro".
Sorry, I'm not providing you details and support YOUR HONOR. And await your judgement. LOL.
Assertion must be met by counter-assertion. Not "Prove it bro".
"Musk isn't throttling Starlink, it has never been allowed for use in launching attacks."
Well the Ukrainians sure are screaming. about something:
https://www.wsj.com/world/europe/ukraine-says-new-starlink-speed-limit-is-disrupting-its-attacks-79225e19
Go figure.
"Zuckerprick is worth 250 billion and buy 10000 houses. And his friends can buy a lot more. Meanwhile the average under 40 cant buy one."
Houses are not unaffordable because Zuckerberg has $250B.
A good wordsmith. And a complete scumbag.

Gosh original mike. who said they were.
Basically the system is that private entities collect interest on government created money on just about every enterprise in the United States. It's like a system of private taxation.
Here's hoping for a Great Lakes WS.
I'm off to bed. You characters have nothing more than "Well you said X, prove it" To which I respond - OK you prove ME wrong. And... your response is: Oh, sorry no can do.
"Gosh original mike. who said they were."
Then why do you keep bringing it up?
"Guess if like the status quo - well good for you. But if you don't - we need change."
That's RC's version of a proposition that we are supposed to disprove.
*OK you prove ME wrong. And... your response is: Oh, sorry no can do.*
Dumbshit. It's not up to us to prove you wrong. You said it. YOU prove it.
arnacleBay imTay (9:53pm) repeats Russian propaganda.
Try to keep up.
the internet in a nutshell:
You prove me wrong.
No, you prove me wrong.
Haha. Not you prove me wrong.
No, you prove me wrong.
And so it goes. The circle jerk of dumbshits.
Then why do you keep bringing it up?
Why do you? Derp. Derp.
Thats nice.
RCOCEAN gives hand jobs to bulls.
Prove me wrong.
Under the principles of socialism, every citizen must be equally provided with cam operated mechanical birds. Which side are you on, man.

Btw. FB started a rumor Bill Nye “Science Guy” had died.
Not true.
So houses are not affordable and also house prices are depressed - interesting!!
….don’t by a building with a margin loan against your stock, buy a building with a mortgage and use the equity in the building to buy stocks. Safer that way…margin calls suck…
Your home may appreciate in value but the equity in your home does not. Make the equity in your home work for you as well…
….my niece and her husband aren’t yet 25 years old but she has no college debt because she took advantage of military family benes, lived at home during school.
*Right. "Jim"?*
I've been on this site since 2011, asshole.
Sorry. My bad.
Jew-hating asshole.
Prove me wrong.
So why the soviet union kill 40 million of their own people
…here’s a taste since instead of reading it they’re making the arguments it addresses…
How does one become so historically and economically illyerate
…one starts out that way. Economics education begins and ends in kindergarten for most people, where showing up means you get an equal piece of cake. As adults for some reason people still assume there’s just one cake instead of recognizing there are people who make more cake…
…it’s just too compelling to wish government will give us something for free, despite all the evidence government is a terrible provider. Obamacare was supposed to solve all out needs and there were zero political roadblocks to implementing whatever they wanted bit instead of the promised utopia we’re back at the arguments again…
…all against a backdrop of over a TRILLION dollar a year entitlement fraud….
…and Democrats can’t understand why normal people are reluctant to let government do anything…
…that’s all for now. I’m off to bring a relative to the do-nothing ‘intro’ meeting at a doctor’s office so the office can bill medicare for services not rendered…

“ Yeah, there are only two alternatives”
Don’t just be a critic, RC. Give us your solution
Brewers just rolling along.
Brewers sweep?
Ann and Meade: You absolutely MUST go to a game. Hang out in the parking lot and watch prices drop before the first pitch. That’s what my son and I did. Totally worth it.
I don’t even remember what I paid for that Dodgers game.
Capitalism is controlled by banks,
Tell me that didn't come out an adults mouth.
capitalism is about markets.
Assertion must be met by counter-assertion. Not "Prove it bro".
Since all your assertions are gratuitous they can be met with an equally gratuitous counter assertion.
"No it's not."

Agreed. I suspect that, given Ms. Craig's propensity for suing anyone remotely connected with her debauched escapades, the default is "why take the chance?"
There are cycles to everything. To everything, there is a season.
Nikkei down -5% today. Had been one of the strongest of all stock markets.
Our QQQs broke an uptrend yesterday even with AAPL and MSFT at all-time highs.
A time to embrace. A time to refrain from embracing.
Protect your assets.

The woke NFL may a problem. In 10 days the Steelers are scheduled to play the Saints in Paris. It seems there’s a bit of unrest in that country.
US Soviet Dems demand it.
The GOP should push back harder with 100% pride supporting police and ICE agents.
The corrupt anti-ICE left should lose on that issue alone
“I voted for Trump because I knew he would improve the economy". "Vote for a businessman", they said.
Biden allowed millions of illegals in, for the grand plan to get a Soviet Democratic one party state.
Soviet Leftists In Power - Allowing boys in girls sports/spaces, still going on in Blue hell states.
John Hinderaker has been moaning about what an uncouth failure and embarrassment to Republicans Trump is since 2015.
Spare us. We've heard it all before.
Also, Lonejustice--isn't it just a tad disingenuous of you not to point out that Hinderaker was speaking about polling in Minnesota, not nationwide?
Hinderaker predicted Trump--and the Republicans--would lose big in 2024, and promoted...Nikki Haley!! as the best candidate for president.
Look it up.
One of his commenters described him as a "Well, I never!" Republican.

@joeoltmann
Democrats and their “The Lives of Others” approach have gotta go. One way or another.
Wholesale prices jumped 6.3% annually in September, biggest gain since 2022 ~ CNBC
This never would have happened if Trump were president.
Ask any Canadian who is on the waitlist for heart bypass surgery if he/she likes free health care for all.
Trump is icky so lets go full Soviet.
Good plan.
IEE(D) - voted for Kamala and Walz. LOL
After 4 years of Bidenomics, Indefinitely Extended Excursion thinks he can convince us to vote to bring it back. I might be 80 but senility has not set in.
the GGR Mara sailing controversy update from the GGR which finds itself blameless.
A fine example of the institutional move of provoking a reaction in order to crush it. Followed by modified hangout and more crushing.
What do the landlords gat out of it PW? They are the ones taking the risks.
Anyway. We,(US oil firms), are going to start oil exploration in Greenland. This is gonna be good.
