If a pacifist had a risk free chance to kill Hitler in 1944 and did not because of his/her pacifist views, was that decision wrong? Was that decision immoral? Was that decision selfish? Was that decision brave?
Why is it so hard for Trump to find even a half-way coherent and competent new Press Secretary? Especially just weeks before the mid-term elections? It makes no sense at all.
I was concerned that since they ruin everything they touch, the Left will soon ruin everything, all the medical and technological advances and freedoms on the horizon, and I'm sure they would, but now I think A.I. will beat them to it.

Can someone explain to me why electronic circuits and switches are made to observe 'Indigenous Peoples’ Day', aka 'Columbus Day'? Explain it like I'm Five. ai: "Banks hold up transfer payments on holidays because the underlying clearinghouses and payment networks—such as the Federal Reserve and NACHA (National Automated Clearing House Association)—are closed." What is delayed: "Interbank ACH transfers, direct deposits, employer payroll processing, check clearing, and external bill payments."
Somebody other than you is making money while holding your money, and if you think they're going to let such opportunities slip through their fingers, they invite you to entrust them with more money.
Lem -- short answer, it's a "bank holiday". Per Grok --
On a pure bank holiday (markets open): You can trade stocks, but moving money between your bank and brokerage may take an extra day. On a pure trading holiday (banks open): You cannot trade, but banking services continue. When both are closed: Everything is delayed—trading, transfers, and settlement (T+1 in the US becomes longer if a holiday intervenes). Bottom line: Always check both the bank/Federal Reserve calendar and the specific exchange calendar for the markets you use. They are close but not identical, and the mismatches matter for cash transfers, settlement timing, and trading access.
Trump says he “might” have gone too far assassinating the leadership of Iran, while they were discussing a US offer, BTW, and now he is having a hard time getting them to trust him, and to take him at his word when he promises to pay them Tuesday for a hamburger today.
It’s almost like he is starting to realize that he is not a mob boss. I wonder who talked him into that?
I found out because I happened to look at my bank app. I knew almost right away what must've happened. This is not the first time. It seems antediluvian.
I think Trump and MAGA have conceded that they will lose the House and possibly even the Senate in the mid-terms. That is why Trump is only campaigning in solidly red states. He isn't even trying to broaden his base with Independents and disaffected Democrats. His only hope is to invigorate his MAGA base despite high inflation, high gasoline and diesel fuel prices, high grocery and beef prices, and an unpopular war with Iran that he promised he would never start. That is sign of shear desperation. I can't wait for a President Rubio or DeSantis.
"Trump says he “might” have gone too far assassinating the leadership of Iran, while they were discussing a US offer, BTW, and now he is having a hard time getting them to trust him,"

@brivael · 16h I’m French. I want to talk to Americans who are about to vote Democrat. Not to insult you. To warn you.
I come from your future.
In France we did everything your progressive politicians promise. Free healthcare, free college, generous welfare, strong unions, heavy regulation, high taxes on the rich, a state that takes care of everything. Public spending close to 57% of GDP, one of the highest on the planet. On paper, it’s the dream.
Here’s what it looks like from the inside. France hasn’t passed a balanced budget since 1974. Our debt is above 3,300 billion euros. Interest on that debt is becoming one of the biggest items in the national budget. Our hospitals are collapsing despite record funding. Our schools rank lower every year. Young people with degrees can’t afford an apartment in the city they were born in. Our best engineers leave for London, Zurich and San Francisco. And the rich you wanted to tax? They left too, and took the jobs with them.
The promise was protection. The result is stagnation. Read the rest here... https://x.com/brivael/status/2110023149064507674?s=20
Here's part of another of his X posts. Read the rest yourselves...
So here's the test. When someone calls himself an antifascist, ignore the label and watch what he does. Does he want to silence opponents? Cancel speakers? Get people fired, banned, deplatformed? Then the label is a costume.
I'm French. We've lived this. For decades, anyone in France who questioned immigration, taxes, or the size of the state was called "far right" or "fascist." Half the country has been labeled that way. The result was no debate, only exclusion. And a country that stopped growing.
This vocabulary is now the vocabulary of the American left. Every Republican is "a threat to democracy." Every opponent is "fascist." And once your opponent is a fascist, everything becomes permitted against him. That's the logic of 1932, recycled.
So, my American friends, before you vote, ask yourself one question: who wants to argue with you, and who wants to silence you?
I'll leave you with this funny for the day... X was lit this morning.
Sean Davis @seanmdav · 5h If Katie Zacharia wants the praise of the White House press corps, she’s going to need to either go Full Psaki and dye her hair neon Kool-Aid orange, or strangle some kids with exercise bands on the White House lawn.
The key fact from Rehajm's Affordability link above:
Congress gave the Federal Reserve a “price stability” mandate. The Fed interpreted that mandate to mean 2% inflation forever. Prices should double every 35 years. And even that 2% is only a forward-looking aspiration. The Fed lets bygones be bygones. If inflation hits 10%, as it did in 2022, the Fed does not try to run inflation lower than 2% for a while, or even slight deflation, so that inflation will average 2% over time. The Fed does not even think of trying to bring the level of prices back to where they were. Even so-called transitory inflation means permanently higher prices.
This guy's reaction: So true, and so basic. Unfortunately, the Fed wouldn't dare try to push the nation into episodes of deflation even if they could -- the rigors of paying off debts in deflated dollars would almost surely mean the end of their careers. And whatever else may fly out of Pandora's box. Volcker majestically rode disinflation, and disinflation only, for the balance of his leadership.
I am not entirely sure the Fed can "run" inflation even in their own minds, which is why "jawboning" is considered one of their actual monetary policy tools. But that's another subject for another day.
The Grumpy Economist says gold won't restore monetary discipline, but what other standard can we have? Imperfect gold may be, but paper money without intrinsic value will always inflate to worthlessness eventually. The Fed is just the stagecoach driver on that highway, trying to keep the economy from spinning down into the ditch too quickly.
“Somebody other than you is making money while holding your money, and if you think they're going to let such opportunities slip through their fingers, they invite you to entrust them with more money.“
Anyone holding my money, making money from my money, for more than legitimate processing time should owe me a steep interest percentage.
SpaceX -- Aggie, SPCX was over 200. Then it was 100. Now it's 150. Half-full or half-empty?
Market's technical problem is that the highs and lows were so closely interwoven. That has produced triple tops on many levels -- on days, on months, on years, and possibly even on decades. A glance at the major index charts will show them.
The biggest danger the markets face technically is that, as each of those triple tops breaks down, the selling will break the uptrend of one larger degree. Leading to more selling. And another breakdown. And so on. At least one seems to have already occurred in some major averages.
Maybe it won't happen this way. But given the historic extremes prices embody, and the visible behavior on the way up, the risk that it will soon unwind -- or has already begun unwinding -- and then fall apart seems very high to me. Sentiment measures show most investors fear nothing, except missing out. That is the great "success" of the Bernanke Put.
However it happens, history shows that there will, one day, be a regression to the mean. Which the SPX was recently 277% above.
…I only paid attention to technical analysis to the extent I did because others paid attention, going back to the Mary Farrell days. I thought it might make entry points. I suppose it did a few times….only two things ultimately drive share prices. Believed it decades ago. Still do…
…the dual mandate is a big problem- full employment is the responsibility of policy makers, so get rid of that…now, economies are too big and impractical for a gold standard. things move too quickly for guys with sleds and little buggies towing gold bars around to rooms with flags on them, and the big issue is if you don’t have discipline in the first place the gold standard is too easy to cheat- just move the peg! …but that first part about Congress doing its job, that’s the issue and those polls show just how difficult it is since populism is so popular. There’s two political ads running in my local where the candidates promise they’ll ‘fix’ affordability, one with a back drop of veggies in the produce section. How’s she gonna do that exactly?
@rehajm, hard to know what drives share prices. Earnings? Valuations put upon those earnings? Hidden assets? Group dynamics?
In any case, SP futures were creeping toward a new high that would have completed a triple top over the last 30 days. The price news slagged them for 50 points immediately.
Given how close the papa SPX index traded toward that triple top peak -- it climbed to within a fraction of one point in Sunday/Monday overnight trading before sellers took over -- this reversal looks significant to me. My guess is the SPX is done and that leaves just about nothing out there with a new-high target to shoot for.

Finished Saratoga meet with small ROI on investment and playing new Belmont Park most beautiful race course now. New tapeta track for winter racing, help with injuries sustained by cold winter racing on hard as concrete dirt tracks(previous AQUEDUCT) They are now using synthetic track for off turf races to maintain larger fields, the game is moving forward once again. I am still hoping SOVEREIGNTY and FOREVER YOUNG get to face each other in CLASSIC. Not a wager for me, just to watch those beautiful animals compete against each other like the days of EASY GOER and SUNDAY SILENCE. Horses aren't bred for long time at races now or long distances because breeding pays more $$ than risky injuries to Gods most beautiful creatures. SOVEREIGNTY Is a probable so far because of a foot injury, FOREVER YOUNG won GOLD CUP recently after a lay off but wasn't impressed with his race beating inferior runners I am leaning toward SOVEREIGNTY as I know the trainer would not run him if he wasn't at top of his game here. My wife and I will see about getting to NEW YORK in fall, see my son and head to BELMONT check out new Park. Yipee been playing this game since running numbers for a race track contact since I was 16.
