It boggles my mind that people like Slotkin don’t absorb the fact that Trump was elected to do what he is doing. His “authority” comes from us. It is not something he manufactured for himself.

Btw, once they have power in congress, she wants to investigate the horribly corrupt things he’s done like build the ballroom and repair the reflecting pool. Does she even hear herself?

What wars did Trump start?

He was elected to stop democrat welfare fraud, deport illegals, close the borders, reindustrialize the United States, and make the world more peaceful.

So far he is shockingly successful at all of those things.

A Hershey bar brightened his evening.

Tastes among the little kids has changed in the last year. Years previously, Butterfingers topped the list; this year Starbursts (which I got in previous years for kids with peanut allergies) were snapped up, especially by the younger kids. When I saw Netanyahu had won, I asked how the Left would do the vote-counting so he didn't win. Some say now that the government of Qatar bought votes in the Arab areas. Turn out in the West bank was certainly up and, as a result, the Left in Israel could have a majority by allying with the Arab parties. But how could the Left ally with the Arabs when it ran as the “Zionist party” and promised not to ally with the Arabs? A good first step on this difficult road has been taken with the assertion that the promise was "a campaign promise." No one expects a politician to keep a campaign promise. But the next step is very difficult. How can any Israeli, even a politician, ally with the Arab parties which are filled with people who support the attacks of October 7? Well, I look forward to a Master Class in Hypocrisy.

Nobody disputes that the U.S. and Iran have been engaged in decades of hostility, including proxy warfare, terrorist attacks and periodic direct military confrontations. Calling it a prolonged conflict is perfectly reasonable.

But conflating 47 years of hostility with one continuous war is historically imprecise. There have been periods of diplomacy, negotiated agreements and varying degrees of confrontation.

More importantly, a history of conflict doesn’t make every subsequent military escalation inevitable or justified. The relevant question is whether the Trump administration’s decisions leading up to the February 2026 strikes were justified, necessary and in America’s interests.

Invoking 1979 doesn’t answer that question, nor does it absolve today’s decision-makers of responsibility for their choices.

Please use the comments forum to respond to the post. Don't fight with each other. Be substantive... or interesting... or funny. Comments should go up immediately... unless you're commenting on a post older than 4 days. Then you have to wait for us to moderate you through. It's also possible to get shunted into spam by the machine. We try to keep an eye on that and release the miscaught good stuff. We do delete some comments, but not for viewpoint... for bad faith. Also: No italics, even briefly. Use asterisks for emphasis. And don't play with the format by changing fonts or using boldface or all caps. Never include more than one extra line break between paragraphs.
