"I knew nothing about any other candidates on the ballot except for me and the incumbent. That is all I have ever known about. I am not interested in tricking voters."

Said Mary Peltola, quoted in "Midterm Elections Live Updates: Peltola Says She Didn’t Know About Alaska Ballot Stacking Plan/As Republican anger grew over the plot, Mary Peltola, the Democratic candidate for Senate, said she had no knowledge of any effort aimed at 'tricking voters'" (NYT).

It sounds like she's engaging with us as a human being....

Hilarious- and appropriate- video to pair with Mary Peltola's claim. Her campaign worked on recruiting multiple Dan Sullivan's. But of course, she knew nothing of it. It never came up in a meeting or a discussion. Not a note about it. Not a check in to see how it's coming along or who the finalists were.
No oversight whatsoever on her own campaign. She knows nothing.
Truly Senate material.

Dave; reminds me of the various adds claiming Paxton gave a deal to a child sex offender; when a) the perp was fully prosecuted with the trial ending in a hung jury, b) the plea deal came before a retrial, that likely would have had a similar result, and c) it was somebody in Paxton's office that made the deal and nobody has collaborated that Paxton himself ordered or made the deal.

It would be like getting pissed that a Mass DA or AG reached a plea deal with Lindsey Clancy, at this point after a hung jury; to assure she at least spent time in a mental health facility.

No. I'm not happy with the plea deal. However, I've been a juror on a sexual assault case for a minor. It was the defendant's second trial, and we had two holdouts that almost let him walk in a second hung trial. I understand that such cases are hard to prosecute and even harder on the victims to keep having to prove their case in court.

As for Democrats; how do you square the argument the ads are making and support for catch and release program and the hundreds of deaths by criminals out on multiple bonds before trial? The real shame is that Republicans aren't making that argument in ads (although I did get one flier).

Seems like a rather relevant tidbit.

I don’t think Alaskans are particularly susceptible to this nonsense. It’s insulting to their intelligence for this blog post and the Republican Party to assume they’re too stupid to distinguish between two candidates named Sullivan and need Trump to protect them from their own inability to figure out a ballot.

Honestly, if voters can’t tell the difference between one guy and the candidate whose name is followed by “Republican Incumbent” on the ballot, I don’t know what to say.

Hey! I want all the Jimmy Carters in Georgia. I want the Jim Carter, the James Carter, even the Jimbo Carter. But especially any Jimmy Carter you can find. This is a fucking big state. We are going to load the ballot with Carters. We are going to confuse the fuck out of the enemy. This is war, men. No, wait. I'm sorry. This is shenanigans! Happy shenanigans that happen all the time.

Bad Ronald Reagan: It's possible I don't need to do this. But the legal counsel at CBS has said that it happens all the time. And it's completely legal. So, for this presidential race, while it might be unfortunate, I want to stack the U.S. ballot with Jimmy Carters. Jim Carter, James Carter, and especially Jimmy Carter. I feel like six Carters ought to do it."

Al Haig: "Sir, you probably know that some of these election officials might want to mark one of the Jimmy Carters as Incumbent."

Ronald Reagan: "Sure, of course. And most people are familiar with that word. But some people might not be. And those are the ones we want to pick off. The unsuspecting and confused ones who are just trying to vote for Jimmy Carter. We want to fool those fuckers. Isn't that right, Mike Wallace?"

Mike Wallace: "Sir, these kind of shenanigans unfortunately happen quite a bit. This has happened on both sides of the aisle. This isn't unusual — it's unfortunate."

Ronald Reagan: "Thank you, quisling, for that wonderful legal advice. Let's fraud our way to the finish line!"

"ILHAN OMAR MARRIED HER BROTHER And now the NEW YORK TIMES is actually reporting on a previous investigation during the Obama Administration where officials found evidence that she did, indeed, commit immigration fraud when she married her brother to get him status. From the Times:

Federal agents in Minnesota opened an investigation, according to several people familiar with the matter. They found evidence suggesting that Mr. Elmi and Ms. Omar were siblings, according to the six former and current officials familiar with the case. But, because prosecutors did not pursue the matter, the agents had limited investigative tools, the officials said.

Mr. Elmi had obtained a provisional two-year green card based on the marriage, two former officials said. But when he sought to make that status permanent, immigration officials requested additional evidence about the validity of the marriage. Instead of responding, Mr. Elmi left the United States and abandoned his green card petition, the officials said.

Apparently once he left the country the Obama administration just stopped the investigation, lest they make one of their rising stars look bad. Oh, and now her ex-”husband” is gay."

Finding one "election attorney" to say it's OK would be more impressive if anyone checked the attorney's party registration, and checked what the other election attorneys in the state say. Is he the only one that thinks that?

Well, each to their own I suppose, as vile and evil as it is. Just keep underage kids away from them and when they are caught give them a lifelong punishment. God will deal with them when they finally croak. As far as believing anything, yeah surrrre Trump didn’t engage in the same thing. That’s why he is desperate to keep the worst of the Epstein files secret and BTW, Epstein didn’t commit suicide.

And if that doesn't work...

“No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My pantsuit didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts! It wasn't my fault, I swear to God!”

Alaska’s Senate race is just the latest example of both parties and their allies promoting spoiler candidates to siphon votes from their rivals. This tactic has been around for decades, and Alaska is hardly the only example this year.

Meanwhile, can’t get enough of this GOP Nevada mailer, which makes a left-wing candidate sharing a last name with the Democrat look as though she’s endorsed by AOC.

Republicans have been pulling these kinds of stunts for decades, often through dark-money PACs. Their biggest donor has even handed out $1 million bonuses to voters. But apparently, two Dan Sullivans on an Alaska ballot is the crime of the century.

You’re conflating suspicion, political motive and criminal conduct. They’re not interchangeable.

First, the Alaska Supreme Court did not make some sweeping finding that Sullivan’s candidacy was in good faith. It upheld the lower court’s determination that the state couldn’t invent an additional eligibility requirement that doesn’t exist in the Constitution or Alaska law.

Second, if you believe someone lied under oath, identify the specific false statement, the evidence that it was knowingly false, and the statute allegedly violated. Throwing around words like felony and contempt doesn’t establish either.

Third, apparently a candidate must now demonstrate good faith by campaigning? That’s an interesting theory, but where exactly is that requirement in Alaska election law?

And finally, questioning an attorney’s party registration rather than addressing his legal analysis isn’t much of a rebuttal.
There’s a difference between finding a political tactic distasteful and demonstrating that it’s illegal. Perhaps we should start there.

Lying turd lies again, and doesn't even have the decency to admit that I never claimed to be an attorney, so his calling me an attorney was a filthy, stupid, contemptible, swinish lie, like his pretense that I somehow own the bumper sticker that I specifically disclaimed. He's welcome to put it on his own bumper: it suits his character.

Twitter reports that 30 subpoenas have been issued in Alaska, and that the fake Dan Sullivan left home a few days ago, and no one knows where he is. It looks like someone thinks felony or contempt charges are imminent, and likely to stick.

Arrogant coprophage doesn't know that Twitter's value depends entirely on which accounts one follows, and that someone who follows a few dozen of the right ones, and avoids the mass of stupid ones, and checks the replies on anything controversial, will be far better informed than if he'd read the traditional press, or watched the networks, or (for an example closer to home) cut-and-pasted talking points from his paymaster.

No, it isn't.

Running a "libertarian" to run to Sullivan's right and try to grab votes from him would be "promoting spoiler candidates". That's perfectly legal.

Finding a "Dan Sullivan" to run for the purpose of confusing and defrauding voters into voting for the wrong "Dan Sullivan", taking advantage of the insane RCV system to get his name displayed as one of 4 candidates, and having him try to run as a "Republican" to further confuse voters even though this "Dan Sullivan" is a 30 year registered Democrat?

That is election fraud, pure and simple.

That's one impressive run-on sentence. Apparently, punctuation is another casualty of your carefully curated information diet.

Dr Weevil म्हणाले...

Foul-tongued (he likes it that way) IEE can't handle a perfectly clear sentence over 50 words. Someone confessedly incapable of reading a typical 19th-century novel - not Henry James, but Dickens or Trollope - should not be commenting on style, and should definitely stay away from 'Great Books' courses. There is, of course, nothing whatsoever wrong with the commas in my sentence.

Dr Weevil म्हणाले...

The fact that I follow hundreds of accounts on Twitter, read the replies, and follow the links to those few articles in the mainstream media worth reading, means that my "carefully curated information diet" is in fact far wider than IEE's narrow little rut of tedious and second-hand anti-Trump propaganda. Was that sentence too long for the coprophage's attention span?

Indefinitely Extended Excursion™️ म्हणाले...

Following hundreds of accounts doesn't necessarily broaden one's perspective. Sometimes it just gives confirmation bias a much larger address book.

Dr Weevil म्हणाले...

IEE is too fucking stupid to understand simple English. I specifically emphasized that I only follow high-quality Twitter feeds, and that I find them (the tiny percentage of Twitter feeds in that category) more informative than mainstream media or television, and he sneers at me for supposedly only caring about quantity. That is the exact opposite of what I wrote. It's a good thing the U.S. doesn't have physician-assisted-suicide for the profoundly retarded. A good thing for IEE, at least.
