I think more accurately, the IRGC had military plans to take complete control of the Strait. Plans so up to date that they were able to execute them immediately with success. Lots of countries have military plans they may never implement, but Iran never hid the fact that they wanted control of the Straits; any less than China is hiding they want control of Taiwan.
The world can't do much against Russia invading Ukraine because of nuclear weapons. There likely isn't much that could be done to China, if it chose to take Taiwan. If Iran had nukes, then they would have taken the Straits, and nobody would want to risk taking it back.
Whether performed well or not; Trump's operations in Iran exposed the truth that Iran would take control of the Strait and that no other country would stop them if they did.

A quick internet search shows that the average American drives about 250 miles a week. The average mileage of vehicles on the road is 25 MPG. So- the average American uses about 10 gallons of gas each week. In order for that 10 gallons to cost $25 less, the price of gas would have to be $2.50/gal. lower.
The current national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in the U.S. is $4.09 according to data from AAA Fuel Prices. Subtract $2.50 from that and you get a price of $1.59 for a gallon of gas.
On his second inauguration day on January 20, 2025, the national average was $3.12 per gallon, which is about a dollar less than it is today.
Conclusion- Trump is responsible for, at best, an increase of $10/week in gasoline expenditures, which is nowhere near $25/week.
Rhetorical question: Why is he being blamed for costing Americans an extra $25/week, when that is demonstrably false?

I combine trips. I don't carry around extra weight with a full tank of gas. When my wife is out and about, I ask her to pick up something I may need instead of making a special trip myself. There are a lot of things a person can do to offset the temporary price hike.

Oil prices are set by world wide economic factors. Very rare that a US president would have significant influence over gas prices. But here is an exception to the rule. Trump is responsible and most everyone knows that. What happened was entirety predictable.You can argue it’s worth it but most Americans feel otherwise.
In 1974 after the Arab embargo, the first real gas shock, the 2026 dollar price of gas was $3.45. Since then tax has gone up $0.35 to $3.80. So we are $0.25 higher than 50 years ago in purchasing power including government tax. This does not include all the other factors of depleting low cost oil and the cost exploring and drilling for new oil, so I don’t think oil has gone up much at all. To spend $20 more a week at a $0.25 per gal inc you would have to buy about 80 gal per week of gas. That should carry you 2000 miles per week.
