Roughly 25% of the males on the plane were in shorts, from teens to ones that looked older then me. May not have been, but certainly looked it. About 10% of total males in the airport- my guess being everyone wasn't headed to southern climes.

My children have never seen me in shorts unless I was engaged in actual athletic endeavor. They were shocked to find I recently purchased several new pair. They are suitable for wear on trails. Started walking seriously this summer walking 4-5 days a week from 5 to 9 miles depending on how I feel that day. Rainy days? 1 hour on the treadmill, 3.2 MPH, 3.5% grade. But when you listen to various versions of this song, you hear all sorts of strange lyrics. "Come on along, you can lose your lease,". Why would you want to lose your lease? Maybe your leash?
"It's just an old piano and a knockout bass." What the fuck is a "knockout bass"?
I have been tracing the development of this song. I think the original line was "Come on along before they lose their lease", meaning that this roadhouse was likely to be shut down by the property owners. And I suspect that it was originally a "doghouse bass", which is something musicians are familiar with. Anyway, it seems like a lot of people have made covers of this song without bothering themselves much about what the words might actually mean. "It's open every night about twelve to six". Really? What I want to talk about is that 'fore. Obviously, "before" would not have fit the meter. But there is an established solution to exactly this problem in English poetry, which is the
word "ere".
But Dylan clearly did **not** want to sing "One more cup of coffee 'ere I go" (plus, one has to wonder what exactly the apostrophe in 'ere signifies). He **could** have written "One more cup of coffee, then I go", or "then I'll go". But that has a different semantic freight. "One more cup of coffee 'fore I go" says that going is established. A thing that is certain to occur. A milepost in the on-flowing stream of time. Certain things might occur 'ere that, but that will occur.
Whereas. "One more cup of coffee, then I'll go" sounds like someone who is trying to evade going. Whereas Dylan's intent is to convey a fatalistic certainty.
I can only suppose that "'ere" would have sounded too precious, too sophisticated. The protagonist of Dylan's song is neither stupid nor unsophisticated, but he is a romantic, and therefore doomed. Romanticism is precisely the view that there are things that must be done -- and they must be done. California couple contract with a woman in Alaska to be a surrogate mother for their baby. The baby develops a serious-but-treatable heart condition. The couple demands that the surrogate mom have an abortion. She refuses.

And she moves to Texas to protect the baby. Now Ken Paxton is getting involved.

"The intended parents have refused to agree that they will consent to the life-saving surgery upon birth and may attempt to transport the child out of Texas to prevent treatment from being administered," a statement from Paxton's office reads.

Wow, what a mess. My sympathy is with the baby and the baby's mom, of course. The California couple remains anonymous, out of an assumption that the public will not be on their side. They've got the money but they don't have the love.

The parents have sued for parental rights, sought to compel her to give birth in California, stopped payments, and demanded repayment plus damages that could reach $250,000 — a sum West says would financially ruin her.; 11/8/26, 11:59 pm

LifeNews.com is a website that publishes pro-life content. It's similar to the abolitionist newspapers back in the 19th century. Definite point of view. Their article shows multiple photographs of the happy mom.

CBS is now run by Bari Weiss, the former NYT reporter who quit, because of all the woke bullshit in the NYT, and started The Free Press. Notably, she's a married lesbian, and she and her wife have had two children through IVF. (Her wife, Nellie Bowles, is the biological mom). I don't know how much of this biography is relevant, but I do find it notable (and good) that CBS uses the term "unborn baby" over and over in their article. And does not once use the word "fetus." No photographs of the surrogate mom.

The Hill, that fucking rag, not only doesn't show the surrogate mom's photo, they've written her out of the story entirely. She has no name! They spin Ken Paxton as the bad guy who is trying to seize the baby from the parents. And they bring back the word "fetus." Highly partisan and lazy journalism from D.C. As a general rule, I'm pro-natalist (of course), so I have no moral objections to surrogacy, per se. I loved the movie Juno, which I see as a pro-life movie. And that was about a surrogacy birth.

Why do you need nine months to choose? There are a huge number of countries (the vast majority of the world, actually) who regulate abortions at some point. The number of countries that allow abortions until birth are rare. You're talking China and North Korea. And another name, Canada. That's the country where doctors are actively assisting in suicide, killing the patients in hospitals.

I'm afraid that Canada has been infected by the loony left in our country. And now they are worse.

But that life is growing inside a human being and that human being, always a woman, has power over that being that in any other circumstances would be considered unconstitutional. The developing baby depends 100% on her body - her health, food, medication, work, sleep, and willingness to accept medical risks. Those are (we might say) God’s laws. And part of that is the determination of life or death of the life growing inside of her. The government cannot protect that life without claiming extraordinary control over the woman’s body and everyday decisions. We would never give the state that power under any other circumstances.
(Before dedicated morning-after pills, in the past, doctors sometimes used higher doses of ordinary birth-control pills as emergency contraception. That shows how private, time-sensitive, and impossible to police reproductive decisions are.)
At the same time I believe in compromise. At some point the decision not to terminate a pregnancy becomes a decision to have the baby. (It would be so productive if the pro abortion activists genuinely compromised with anti abortion activists on where that point should be.)
I completely understand people who are uncomfortable with abortion on a moral level but I am even more uncomfortable with the idea of the government having the power to dictate what a woman does with her own own body.; 12/8/26, 7:02 am

The history if mRNA therapy and coronavirus vaccines was littered with failure- and still is. The so called mRNA vaccine wasn't a vaccine and was a failure. Everyone who received it had at least one case of covid AFTER receiving the shot.
