He is loose, chatty, goofy and prone to saying stuff that would give the average campaign consultant a heart attack. Our lunch conversation, joined by several of his campaign staff, began with an explanation of his tattoos — two are of his daughters’ names, none are Nazi-adjacent — before touching on such colorful topics as the “I love Intercourse” T-shirt he bought for his wife while visiting Intercourse, Pa. (she won’t wear it)....

So why wasn't Platner the sort of guy you'd love to have a beer with? He certainly seemed "Goofy, chatty, and fun". I guess his positions on Gaza made him impossible to have a beer with.
As for Osborne he just another fake moderate. He's personally against abortion - but supported Roe v. Wade. He's for the little guy. He has a "balanced view" on immigration. He hates both the R's and D's. Gosh darn it.
If you elected him, you'd get someone who voted with Schumer 90 percent of the time, just like Fettermann. Another salt of the earth, puts his boots one day at time, cuts through all the BS, fake.
The D's and R's always have different strategies in getting their candidates elected in states that usually vote the other way. The R's nominate people who are liberal as possible and still be Republicans. Once they get in office, they constantly "go Maverick" to prove they're not one of those icky conservatives, and hope the D's will re-elect them.
The Democrats nominate folksy "Im one of you" types in Red states who emphasize economic populism. Once in office, they vote with their party - and get rewarded after they leave office.
Likeablity is part of politics whether Tabbai likes it or not. Very few liked Hillary or "Kam". They were foisted on the electorate by the Establishment. Hillary was more or less coronated because she was the wife of an ex-POTUS. Kam got selected as diversity hire VP and was handed the Nomination without a vote by the party.
Its hard to think of two people who'd be less "Fun" to have a beer with.

The beer test I remember was when Obama pretended racial healing by inviting a black Boston professor and a white cop for a beer at the White House. The cop had had the audacity to ask the good professor for ID for appearing to break into his house.

Let me guess: Osborne is a big fan of "Science" and Hate has no home" at his place. He attends the local Unitarian church. And I am also guessing the NYT never thought to ask him what his position is regarding the recent surge of DSA candidates in the Democrat party primaries.

The lasting image of that moment was afterwards. While Obama was out front prancing for the cameras, behind him was that white cop helping the black professor down a set of stairs.

FYI, the Taibbi piece doesn't reference the "Beer summit" at all though it made several appearances in the comments.
No the topic of the "Beer summit", IIRC nobody suggested the neighbor who didn't recognize Gates and initially called the cops was not invited to the summit.

NYT writes a puff piece that leaves out much information that is very relevant. No discussion of the winner of the Democrat primary who then got her name removed from the ballot to clear the way for Osborn.
NDC Chair Jane Kleeb has never won a statewide race. She’s desperate to win.
The NYT actually wrote this sentence: Nebraska is a big ag state.
Also omitted is the fact that the Nebraska Farm Bureau has endorsed Sen. Ricketts. The piece leaves the impression that since the Farmers Union endorsed Dan, then organized farming does. And I know John Hansen of the Farmers Union. Total shill for wind and solar energy. Lib.
Dan’s family has been paid $500k by the campaign. Crook.
More Californians than Nebraskans have donated to Osborne.
Dan was the head of the union at the Omaha Kellogg’s plant. It is located at 96th and F streets. My office is at 96th and L streets.
Dan had the workers strike for a long time. Kellogg’s is now leaving Omaha after about 60 years. Heck of a job Dan.
He’s also completely uneducated about economics. And, no, he did not go to my Jesuit high school.
Nebraskans aren’t stupid. They know Dan will vote for the Dems.

Wrong again. He was sold, successfully, as precisely the type of guy you'd "want to have a beer with." Tough guy, oyster farmer, charming. His position on Gaza was a selling point. The fact that he had a major problem with women, of the assault variety, doomed him. The Dems immediately proceeded to replace him with a guy with the same profile, minus the established assaults and the Nazi tattoo.

The thing I remember most about the variety of subjects we discussed was his prediction they'd pick up 10-15 seats in the midterms that November.
As we now know, they didn't and he resigned as Speaker.
