Sad that Norway lost 2-1. they had a goal disallowed that was a little iffy and they took England to OT. Could have gone either way. Not bad for a team that wasnt a lock to make the final 32.

England hasn't impressed me so far, but somehow they've made it into the semi-finals.

If you search in your browser for “MSCI Emerging Markets PDF”, it will give you a link to the fact sheet which is updated monthly with countries, sectors and Top 10. Quite a useful resource and MSCI offers them for all its other market indexes

.Amaze your friends with the fact that EM is now 45% Technology and that Taiwan (27%) and South Korea (24%) represent more than half of the index. India (the largest constituent not long ago) now just 10%).

If you have an EM fund today and are impressed by how well it’s done, just be aware you are effectively leveraged long NASDAQ at the moment.

England vs Argentina, Falklands II

RCOCEAN II म्हणाले...

OK, well glad Argentina won. They were the better team but a short handed Swiss team gave them a run for their money. Too bad, like Norway v. England, it hinged in a iffy ref decision. The Swiss player definitely took a "dive", problem is that was his 2nd yellow and that means red card.

The ref could have simply ignored it, but I guess after giving the argentine player a yellow based on the supposed "vicious foul", he had to give the Swiss player the yellow for faking it.

Its like Norway's "Push" that took away the goal. Was it really a hard push or did the brit fake it? And how did the push result in a scored goal?

But anyway in both matches today the better team won, but too bad the refs had to help them out.

RCOCEAN II म्हणाले...

England hasn't done that well in the tournament. They didn't show much against Congo, were lucky to win against mexico and they barely got by Norway (thought to have zero chance to get past 16).

They'll be the underdogs against Argentina, and if they get in the finals even bigger underdogs to win.

"Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina died late Saturday night, quite suddenly, apparently after a brief illness. It’s absolutely shocking news, especially because there were no prior indications of him being in poor health."

This from Daily Mail re Sen Graham::

Emergency services responded to a 'cardiac arrest' at Graham's home in Washington DC on Saturday night, NBC News reported.

US president Donald Trump wrote following Graham's passing: 'Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, is dead! He was always working, and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed!'

Truly shocking news. RIP.

Never liked Graham, but damn. Kinda shocked. Heart disease is no joke. The pump keeps working until is doesn't. He was a famous big-time drinker, so it shouldn't come as a surprise.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

Pretty good obit for Senator Graham here.

Graham was initially a critic of Trump, whom he briefly ran against during the 2016 Republican presidential primary, warning: “If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed.” Graham even voted for a third-party candidate for president in 2016, saying he could not support either Trump or Hillary Clinton.

The Libertarian pothead! I was right there with you, buddy. And Trump turned out to be a good one, am I right?"

President Trump: “one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known,” describing Graham as a “true American Patriot” in a Truth Social post.

There are a lot of anonymous Senators up there and Graham really stood out. The opposite of an isolationist, he would always pick the freedom-loving side.

Graham was fresh off a trip to Kyiv, Ukraine, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday. “I’m grateful to Lindsey for recognizing our warriors,” Zelenskyy said at the time, adding that they discussed the country’s urgent air defense needs and plans for fresh Russian sanctions.

Ruslan Stefanchuk, Ukraine’s Parliament speaker, led tributes there Sunday to a “steadfast friend of Ukraine, who well understood that our struggle is a fight for freedom, democracy, and a just world order.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, said Graham “understood that the security of Israel and America are inseparable,” adding: “Israel has lost one of its greatest friends. America has lost a great patriot. I have lost a beloved friend.”

RIP, sir.

Graham served a total of 33 years in the Air Force, Air Force Reserves and South Carolina Air National Guard, fulfilling his reserve duties while holding his seat in Congress. He retired in 2015 at the rank of Colonel.

I did not know that.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

South Carolina was blessed with two very fine Senators. I know both of their Senators and I couldn't name my own two North Carolina Senators. How messed up is that?

Tim Scott on Graham: “South Carolina lost a statesman and I’ve lost a friend,” he said. “My prayers are with his sister and the rest of his family. From his humble beginnings to the Senate floor, Lindsey always led with faith, family, and South Carolina first. Lindsey remained committed to public service and doing what he loved. He always introduced levity and brought wit to the most challenging moments. Lindsey Graham will be missed.”

Imagine a high-ranking European Union bureaucrat attempted to cross the U.S./Mexican border from Mexico illegally, with a camera crew, and was temporarily detained in the process. His purpose was solely to make the U.S. look bad on the world stage by inventing a conflict that he was narcissistically at the center of, highlighting a make-believe injustice of the U.S. exercising sovereignty over it borders.

You don't have to imagine it.

Roy Cooper, our governor, is running for the Senate this November. He is an outstanding politician. Very folksy guy, sort of an Andy Griffith image. Personally, I would ask him about unborn children and get him to defend abortion loudly and vocally. I don't know if that would work on not. He is a nice fucker.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

I suspect the Democrats are going to take our Senate in 2026.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

Thom Tillis is all ego. We've never had good Senators in North Carolina. I was not a Jesse Helms man.

Sam Ervin, I guess, was the last Senator North Carolina can take pride in. And he was a damn Democrat.

Richard Burr. You heard of him? What did he do?

My Little Pony.

Elizabeth Dole was our Senator once. I totally forgot that.

Kay Hagen, whatever. Ted Budd. Do something, Buddy!

It used to be, we had Jesse Helms, and our other Senator would flip, flip, flip. And then Jesse left. And now both Senators flip, flip, flip.

That last time a Democrat got re-elected in North Carolina was Sam Ervin, 50 years ago. Republicans now get re-elected once or twice and then they implode

We're basically a red state and our Republican Party recruitment process is a suck-fest.

No, they are not. Why the leader of a foreign country of 10 million people should be taken seriously with this claim is a question historians will be debating for a long time, maybe thousands of years, like Roman politics.

wildswan म्हणाले...

The Venona intercepts show that McCarthy was right when he said Communiists were infiltrating. But the Senator abandoned the effort to stay factual and then he and his associates began to destroy the lives of innocent people. When that became clear, it sank both McCarthy and all further attempts to call attention to the real, ongoing infiltration. The moral is: stay with the facts or you may do lasting damage to an important cause and ruin your own life as well. This is something Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens should have kept in mind. It isn't obvious yet but the wax is melting on their wings and they will soon come falling out of the sky.

Yeah, that might be an effective campaign ad. Incompetent Governor, Bad Senator.

He's pretty moderate for a Democrat. Pro-Israel, rejects Hamas.

He's wacky on abortion. Vetoed a Republican bill to outlaw abortions after the 12th week. We had so many votes for that we had a super-majority and had no trouble passing it over his veto.

Here he is on that.

He's confident because of polling, I imagine. But polling can shift as people wake up to realities.

Cooper is vulnerable on trans rights. Doesn't know what a woman is, doesn't know what a baby is.

Saint Croix म्हणाले...

Breezy, when I said Cooper was an "outstanding politician," I meant as a campaigner. I agree, as a governor he's been bad. I don't know how nice he is in his heart. Here's a great op-ed about his failures in your part of our state.

And, as I just learned today from Michael Portillo, it is the anniversary of the day in 927 when AEthelstan culminated a series of military and diplomatic efforts to establish a unified England.

Wildswan, the Venona Intercepts, acquired long after McCarthy's actions, validated both his facts about communist infiltration of the federal government and communist infiltration of school boards, other local institutions, and state and local government. They totally vindicated him.

I won't support England until they stop arresting thousands of their citizens for exercising free speech; acknowledge, convict, and deport every Pakistani and others involved in the systematic rape, torture, and sometimes murder of at least a quarter million white English girls, and punish the elected officials, bureaucrats, and police responsible for hiding this sexual genocide. I even want France to kick their nuts in -- or maybe out.

William III's victory also helped the cause of freedom over here. James had been revoking colonial charters and trying to govern America en bloc from Westminster. The local resistance to these efforts is sometimes called the First American Revolution. Once William and Mary unseated James, the colonies returned to the self-government they were used to.

I had really good AP History courses (US and Euro) and we did not cover this. Probably because it sort of falls in the (ocean-sized) crack between the two courses. Of course nowadays no one talks about James's colonial antics because they are too busy talking about how the Iroquois were creating the model for our Constitution....CC, JSM
