"Many people have talked about how funny Senator Graham was...What I remember about that hearing was that somehow Senator Graham made me look funny..."

"... which is a harder thing entirely, by asking me what I had done on Christmas...many people said to me afterwards that exchange with Senator Graham was the moment my confirmation was sealed."

Said Justice Kagan, testifying today before a House Appropriations subcommittee about the Supreme Court's budget:

And here's the exchange with Graham at her confirmation hearing, back in 2010:

Lindsey Graham also led the Republican side in the prosecution of Bill Clinton in his impeachment case, did he not? As a very smart young firebrand, Graham. At least, so I remember. I think later he made very few references to his role, it wasn't going to win any votes he wouldn't already get. I admired his determination and readiness during that procedure. He put it out there.

Oh, yeah, this clip was kinda funny too. Kagan's very very fake laugh when she kinda gets the joke is hard to take, though.

Yeah, for a US Senator he had a great sense of humor. It reminds me of how people would describe Alan Simpson and Bob Dole and great funnymen with "wicked senses of humor". I guess you had to be there.

Graham voted to confirm Kagan just like he voted to confirm Garland as AG, and Sotomayor, RBG and Breyer. He didn't vote for Jackson because of political pressure. Remeber Graham was part of McCain's "Gang of 14" on Judges.

Poor Elana. I know we all grow old, but she must have hit every branch on the ugly tree.

What a shame that the democrats have weaponized these hearings so much that a simple question like that sounds ominous. The democrats have destroyed so much of our comity and I fear they have or have come very close to their goal of overthrowing this country.

GOP votes for leftists.

Marxist dems screech for death - any and all who do not obey and submit to their foul logic.

Back in 2010, nobody would have even thought to ask, but I bet she would have a standard answer to "What is a woman?"
That's how far and fast we have fallen with common acceptance of science and facts. We all have our own truth now. Maybe that means we are all geniuses, or at least all above average.

bagoh20 বলেছেন...

That was a great answer. Jon Stewart never would have pull that out.

Very classy of Kagan.

Obligatory "if that sealed her nomination, my opinion of Graham goes down" comment.

Given her history, it would have been absurd to vote against her confirmation in 2010 even tho’ she was nominated by The Lightbringer. She has shrunk to the level of the other Sisty Uglers since then, but this tribute and her confirmation hearing laugh are a reminder that decency resides within her. As the Democrats amplify their antisemitism she may come around.

I know that these votes are often arranged ahead of time to give certain impressions to senators' constituents. Graham was the only red state senator to vote for Kagan. (The others were Collins and Gregg from NH).

It really did not matter because there were 60 Democrat senators voting for her. Why did Graham vote "Yea"?

Tina Trent বলেছেন...

Kagan is a monster. She ensured that heterosexual women victims of serial killers would secretly and extralegally not be counted as victims of hate crime.

Vance বলেছেন...

Kagan, for all her leftist faults, at least has an intellect. The other two, Sotomeyer and Jackson-Brown, are brain dead leftists. Kagan's the most likely to actually follow the law even if it goes against the wishes of the left. Not all the time, or even most of the time, but if you are going to peel away one of the three leftists, it's going to be Kagan. So she has a little bit of respect for that at least.

No one could see Sotomeyer or Jackson issuing this kind of statement for the passing of Senator Graham.

Tina Trent বলেছেন...

Kai: if Graham led the impeachment, then maybe he had a lot of dealings with Kagan back then, as she served as legal staff for Clinton. I would think that to know her, and her work with Holder and Clinton, would have given him pause. But as the incredibly funny Sen. Kennedy of Louisana (no relation) said today, you didn't have to agree with him to be fond of him.

Tina Trent বলেছেন...

Vance: you're right. She is very smart. But now that some Clinton Library papers have been unsealed, she should be impeached for colluding to undermine state laws using filthy, extralegal, prejudiced, misogyny and deceit.

What are those dark discolorations on Kagen's face under her eyes and on her cheeks? Is she ill? Is it just some kind of makeup?

@RCOCEAN II -- I knew Dole personally. He was hilarious. Of course, many women are humor impaired.

What a nice tribute, this is. Shows you can be respectful to people even if your politics are different

Iman বলেছেন...

Perhaps the cigar-chomping Kagan will stop the slow-walking horseshit she’s been pulling with Sotonoriega.

RCOCEAN II বলেছেন...

Yeah, Bob Dole's "Biting wit". Too bad he kept private. Maybe all the dumbass things he said in 1976, 1988 and 1996 on the campaign trail were all a comedy act.

"Quit lying about my record" "Where's the outrage?". "whoops I'm falling" "WW 2 war a Democrat war". Hilarious. Maybe falling off the stage in 96 was slapstick.

RCOCEAN II বলেছেন...

Norm MacDonald satirizing Dole was 10x funnier. Of course even Norm couldn't believe Dole would endorse Viagra.

Denever বলেছেন...

@Maynard Why did Graham vote "Yea"? Because at the time, what was known about her was that she was very well-qualified. Graham believed that elections have consequences, i.e., if the people chose a Democrat president and the person the president selected was qualified, he'd vote in favor. Following that standard, he should have voted against Sotomayor, IMO. He did vote against Jackson, though, which tells you something.

phantommut বলেছেন...

Very very classy. A great tribute.

mikee বলেছেন...

How nice, now that he's dead, his political opponent can say something nice about him. Pity the respect wasn't there from most Dems while the guy was alive.

RCOCEAN II বলেছেন...

I knew Bob Dole. Bob Dole was a friend of mine. And RcOcean, you're no Bob Dole. You can't even fall off a stage or help the Democrats pass their agenda.
