But visually, it was rather dull. But that's all right. The 90° weather is over. We had 2 days of it in a row, and we're not up for that here in Wisconsin. We think it's too hot when it's 80. Write about whatever you like in the comments... except the Lindsey Graham funeral. Go one post down for that.

Like a blister in the Sun…
What’s the over/under on Fauci:
1. 5th Amendment.
2. I don’t recall.
Dave it will be a defiant rant then number 2…
Was 91 for my morning hike, so I cut it short with minimal climbing. I'm adapted to the low 80s, but have a ways to go for the 90s.
Isn’t self incrimination off the table?
Only up to the point the Biden autopen pardoned him (and if that stands up in court). If he commits perjury during his current testimony it's game on, so yeah, lotsa #2 should be expected.
The headline at Newser:
𝘊𝘰𝘶𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘒𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘎𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘢 𝘞𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘴 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘐𝘊𝘌 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯
𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘪 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘳 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘴𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘳𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮
Of course, they're not a Missouri pair, they're a Guatemalan pair.
There's obviously a lot more to this story then we'll ever know. But the headline is set to make us all feel guilty because illegal immigrants - AKA invaders or criminals- were sent back to their homeland and killed. Found bound, gagged, and shot in a sugar cane field. Obviously a targeted killing, not some random street crime. Not really our problem that Guatemala can't control their criminals.
You know what's right next to Guatemala? Mexico- where they could have asked for asylum- and the nation they likely passed through, aided by Mexican authorities who don't want them there, even thought treaties Mexico signed require they grant them asylum or send them back. They also could have fled to Belize, or Honduras, or El Salvador, also bordering Guatemala. But somehow, they ended up in the USA, a >1300 miles road trip from Guatemala. And from their port of entry, end up in Missouri, in the center of the lower 48. (The actual geographic center is in KS one state west, but close enough)
Do I feel guilt over their deaths because the cold cruel USA sent them back? Nope, not at all. We didn't kill them, their fellow countrymen did. For reasons unknown. But truly innocent men not involved with criminals rarely get bound and gagged and shot in a remote field. Their wives sometimes get taken with them. Oh, well, Guatemala's problem, not ours. Guatemalan courts will determine the fate of their 14 month old daughter. Our SC justices have no say in the matter, even if their flawed decision says she is a US citizen. The article leaves out where she was born.
According to our Chief Justice, Guatemala has no interest in children of their citizens if born here. His logic is flawed.

"I'm an old man- I get confused."
That will be most of what Fauci would say at this point. Fauci will die a free man but he really should be publicly executed. If he had been honest from the start and had admitted that they had fucked up, I might have had some sympathy, but the ass covering lying leaves me cold and angry.
The problem Fauci might face with pretending to 'not remember' things, is that he was an inveterate camera hog, which provides plenty of videotaped examples of what he said he believed, that can be compared to examples of what he was actually writing to other people, at the same time. Tell us about those differences, doctor.
Should hearing be in Senate or Guantanamo

Likely is birthright citizenship!!
This is another video from Chi Brown, and he is talking to the Black community. But I think these comments fit women in general and probably guys as well. But I’ll speak about women. The models we hold up to be emulated are the opposite of what should be emulated.
https://youtube.com/shorts/aRvS5qs4nVs?is=Xv2tGtFXtuqf9yqo
When I say the models we hold up for emulation are the opposite of what they should be, I’m not talking about homemaker versus career woman. I mean we should stop celebrating emotionally driven decision-making. Stop praising choices that put empathy first, and start praising choices that respect empathy but never let it override truth or justice.

Pretty obvious what's going on with Dr. Fauci and by extension the entire Deep State bureaucracy.
They have constructed for themselves a fantasy world where they heap praise on each other and receive continuous validation through awards, grants, and media interviews. All you have to do is attend the right universities and give the right people grant money. If some of that money happens to be dangerous viral research in China? Well, why wouldn't you want to build international relations plus prevent a future Thirteen Monkeys?
They are never guilty because accountability does not exist in this fantasy system, only accolades. They get the thrill of validation every time they make an impact in the real world, such as shutting down schools or churches. Your suffering does not register to them, because you do not register to them unless you have an award, publicity, degree, or money to offer them.

@Althouse: "We think it's too hot when it's 80."
This may explain the "men in shorts" and socks-related posts. When it's "only" 80, it's time for hard physical activity down south. Before the heat warnings hit at mid day.
Trump is ending the helpful $3.6 billion in annual drug subsidies that lowered the cost of expensive Medicare drugs, beginning in 2027.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, he has spent an estimated $40 billion in his personal war against Iran in just 150 days - with no end in sight going forward.

Wait Dr. Tony wrote about sores on Barbra Streisand's ass?
I may have been too hasty here.😆Gives The Streisand Effect a whole new meaning.
I have a very old dog (he's a miracle, in a way: We were told he was terminal seven years ago; now he's exceeded his breed's life expectancy), and he sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night needing to go. So up I was at 2:30 this morning, taking him out. It was 80 degrees and quite humid.
I'm not one who experiences envy much. But every great once in a while... .
Eva Marie: Thanks for the link.
Trump is no longer subsidizing drug companies and botfly has the sads.
Gadfly: Yeah, I saw that. Yet another thing to take into account in my financial calculations. Luckily, I'm always conservative in this way and tend to plan more for worst-case scenarios (in hopes that I am pleasantly surprised, though I don't expect it).
But this, with expected cuts of around 22% in Social Security benefits in just a few years, will likely pinch a lot of people who haven't planned or can't plan for the big bites. I wonder what happens when they wake up and realize that this really will affect them? This could be...interesting.
As for retired me, I'm working diligently and hard to put off getting Social Security until 70. That would basically offset the SS benefit cuts (22% cut, but 24% increase if I can hold off until 70).
As for increased health-care insurance-related costs? Well, those seemingly will always be with us, as they have for a long time now. I've basically given up on any serious reforms.
Bottom line: You live with what you're stuck with. All you can do is plan as best you can and keep on truckin', as they say.
NYC Mayor Mahatma Mamdani promised his new and improved city owned grocery stores would be selling food at a 30% discount. Considering profits are razor thin in the grocery business, who covers the difference? Per hizzoner, trillionaires, billionaires, and millionaires will pony up. At least those few suckers that remain in NYC.
Democrats are becoming more and more the party of unmarried women. Also, conservative women are having more babies. They are above replacement rate while liberals are not. Demographics are destiny.
Democrats are literally dying out. But a net positive for the Democrats is that the dead show a remarkable propensity to vote Democratic.
The final nail in the coffin will be when Blacks move significantly to the Right as Hispanics have done. That will happen when Blacks realize that it is the Democrats who are keeping them in chains, not the Republicans.
'...They are above replacement rate while liberals are not. Demographics are destiny...'
Yes, well. While conservative women are looking behind them at the lagging cat ladies, they ought to be looking ahead at the lady in the burka, vanishing in the distance.
“ who covers the difference? Per hizzoner, trillionaires, billionaires, and millionaires will pony up. At least those few suckers that remain in NYC.”
This is the thing Democrats don’t understand. Wealthy people who live in NYC will give lots and lots of money to help poor people, if it is their choice and they get to go to some nice parties for doing it. But these are wealthy people, they don’t bow to government and say yes sir push me around and take what you like. These are the people who see themselves as the ones on top, they run the show. They are not cattle for the upstart proles to butcher.
You don’t get rich in Wall Street by meekly submitting to others, you eat others alive.
So when Mandami insults them publicly and calls out their names, he does not understand what he is doing.
It’s Fifth Amendment day on Capitol Hill!
The NYT is reporting that ICE is *gasp* enforcing the law at US airports ! Oh, the Humanity !
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/28/us/ice-arrests-airports-visa-overstay.html?smtyp=cur&smid=tw-nytimes
I’m surprised he went the 5th Amendment route. Help us lay people out here, lawyers, is he not in Contempt of Congress by pleading the 5th even though he has immunity. He can be compelled but I haven’t looked up the steps needed.
I will venture to guess that the Mamdani stores will fail even with prices 30% below the bodegas. First of all, Mamdanis will run out of the cheap items early in the day disappointing many. Second, there will be fighting in the aisles as the items begin to run out. Think Black Friday sales. Third, DEI srore management won't know how to prevent spoilage or even buy good produce in the first place. Food poisoning, explosive diarrhea - imagine the stories in the Post about the Mamdani store users on the subways. Then, I'm sorry to say, some poor helpless woman who trusts the Mayor will be killed from the bad food, maybe her whole little family.
This is all predictable if you know how communism works. But, as usual, the BlueReaders reading only one side of the story, hearing only DEI masticated bits of history, don't know how Communism really works. For them, Mamdani is at Phase One on the Fauci line - blind, stupid, adoring belief. Next comes the unnecessary sickness and death which will be covered up by the PR machine.
But here, I kind of think, the scam will stop. Explosive diarrhea in Mamdani-store customers who ride the subway is too obvious. The stores will close for "renovations" - and STAY closed while The PR tals about them as a success story, a story which shows that in America Communism is really being tried and is really working well. A first.
Trump Administration to End Medicare Drug Plan Subsidy ~ WSJ
Laser focused on reducing the cost of living, from day one.
Happy talk can't mask the reality.
Trump's foreign policy is also causing damage and fueling inflation.
Trump's immigration policy has also targeted workers by effectively hiring the unemployable to go after the employed.
There will be a political price for Trump and the Republicans, because ultimately, policy outcomes do matter. Trump is a gifted salesmen (con artist), but that will only get him so far when his rhetoric and reality continue to fail to converge.
Not surprisingly, on a parallel track the Trump administration is looking at ways to interfere and subvert the 2026 election results, because they can also read polls and see where things are headed.
A preview of future developments in U.S. markets?
https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/south-korea-hold-emergency-market-082334292.html
Korean stocks are down about 30% since peaking in June. They are only back down to where they were in February, but that's not how human nature works.
Most of our averages, like the S&P and Nasdaq, also peaked in June. The DJIA made it to July 7 and tested its breakdown technically yesterday, in the rally.
The new Federal Reserve (Kevin Warsh, serious man, chairman) is meeting, so there is the possibility of a surprise rate hike -- or hawkish words; or nothing. Big tech companies are reporting after the close today and tomorrow. Maybe there will be upside surprises there. Maybe the reverse.
But it is the most one-sided market in American financial history, at least in the data-ized records of the last 125 years or so. Do your own research if you don't believe that.
Risk is high, maybe the highest in a couple decades. Good luck.
The thing is, with token-based billing, the demand for compute is nowhere near where hyperscalers thought it would be. Sam Altman pretty much admitted this openly when he said that he's surprised how much people care about costs, as they didn't last year. People respond to incentives, shocking.
Don't know how representative it is but a friend working at a major global corporation where AI was hyped as the second coming of Jesus for the last 3 years confirmed that the company introduced AI credit limits on Github Copilot worth 19 USD a month... That's not going to fund many data centers, is it.
Trump vows to deliver ‘beating’ to Iran in retaliation for latest attack ~ FOX News
Not bad.... considering Trump has claimed to have eliminated/obliterated Iran's military about 7 times already.
I’ve seen enough. Give that man another FIFA Peace Prize.

The downside is that public school indoctrination continues apace, and unless homeschooling ramps up, the kids will be turned against their parents.
Steven A. Smith just launched a massive attack on Trump for saying LeBron James might be a racist, and preferring MJ to Lebron. As Trump said "I like people who like me".
Makes sense to me. James responded with by saying Trump was "dividing people" blahblah. Which of course is silly since James refused to go to the white house and accept Trump's congratulations on his NBA Championship, and has spent almost 10 years calling Trump a 'raciss".
To me the most amazing thing about Lebron is how fucking ugly he is. He looks like a Nethanderthal in basketball shorts. I don't feel sorry him, after all he's a famous zillionaire - but damn I can barely look at him. Too hard on the eyes.
The NBA in the 80s/90s was incredibly lucky you had a bunch of black superstars who were intelligent, likeable, and knew how to do PR. MJ, Barkley, Magic, Malone, Drexler, Thomas, the list goes on and on.
LeBron was the lab experiment for going straight from high school to the pros. And even in high school, he was a closely managed subject. I don't hold too much against him. He seems to have brought up his kids okay. He certainly came out better than Michael Jackson. CC, JSM
What a bogus deal with trumps lawyer as AG who cares if he's confirmed he'll still be acting AG and then trump will be gone cmon man stop the drama corning tillis we know you'll fold like always when you are told what to do//stop the drama you just confirmed the most unqualified ,no experience or credible DNI probably in history stop the drama.
