I wouldn't have blogged that Colbert-into-the-dumpster video, but with embedded within this somber theater of disapproval...

... I find the whole thing hilarious:

I agree. Embedding the video inside the four dingbats trying to act portentous elevates it from silly and forgettable to utterly hilarious.

Marcus Bressler કહ્યું...

Troller-in-Chief! Hilarious.

Brian McKim and/or Traci Skene કહ્યું...

Steele has no problem looking like an utterly humorless p#ssy.

Wilbur કહ્યું...

You nailed it, AA.

Big Mike કહ્યું...

@Leland, in the Washington area yesterday, heck yes. I live 100 miles west and it didn’t get out of the fifties.

Eric the Fruit Bat કહ્યું...

That guy's face is way too smooth for someone with grey hair and his eyes look synthetic.

Tarrou કહ્યું...

I don't know, he seems well in that dance. How's Colbert doing?

Leland કહ્યું...

High of 88 in Houston today.

Colbert getting canned, is that part of Trump’s terrible week? For a guy having such a bad week, it sure looks like Trump’s critics seem to be sad ahead of a long holiday weekend.

Wince કહ્યું...

Trump "cock holstered" Colbert.

The audience clapping behind the dumpster while Trump dances to a gay anthem took the hilarity to the next level.

Humperdink કહ્યું...

Who says the second Trump has been unsuccessful? Jim Acosta, Joy Reid and now Ko-Bare all sent to the wilderness.

Mary Beth કહ્યું...

It's hilarious. They're just mad because the left can't meme. Even with the help of AI.

When did this air, before or after someone shot at the White House?

Breezy કહ્યું...

The video is funny. The reaction to it is hilarious.

Randomizer કહ્યું...

Progressives do have a problem, but it's not just at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

They control Hollywood and corporate media, but those are becoming irrelevant. CBS lost $40 million per year to keep Colbert on the air, but now, the President makes silly memes to make fun of them. That clip was on X, which is owned by the richest guy in the world, who also pushes back. And was originally from TikTok which is led by Larry Ellison, a Republican megadonor.

To make it worse, impugning Trump's mental health is awkward coming off of Biden's reclusive and frail presidency.

I played golf the other day with my fervent Trump-hating buddy. He told me he's made a pile in the stock market. "Thanks Uncle Donnie" he said. Then he added, "I gotta admit, Uncle Donnie's the only funny president I've ever known."

Iman કહ્યું...

Gee, they always have the assassination option, what’s this idiot Steele complaining about?!

Bob Boyd કહ્યું...

Steele sympathizes with the Colbert character in that video because Trump basically chucked him in rubbish bin too.
I noticed Steele has adopted the bird hands when he lectures just like a woman on anti-depressants. I wonder if he realizes it?

Bob Boyd કહ્યું...

"Where do you see this fitting in to the narratives...?"

narciso કહ્યું...

Hes got newsoms possessed hands

Old and slow કહ્યું...

Po faced is the phrase that comes to mind.

Temujin કહ્યું...

The seriousness at which they react every time Trump pulls their string is both hilarious and unbelievable. "Mom...Donny's teasing us again!"
This would have been a nothing. Forgotten just as quickly as most of America (outside of the media bubble) forgets Colbert. But their outrage at this, while showing no outrage, or even acknowledgement at the level of degradation of our cities all around them, well...it says it all.

Jim કહ્યું...

Watching Steele makes me reconsider my opposition to tampons in the Men’s room.

Mr. D કહ્યું...

It's gotta be tough when the self-important find out they aren't important. Trump going Nelson Muntz on them just adds to the fun.

mikee કહ્યું...

That video, just a humorous bit of a reprise on "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women." With the predictable lamentations guaranteed from the crybabies of the left. Hey, at least the dumpster wasn't on fire.

John henry કહ્યું...

They lie.

The woman asked "the president posted this?" to which the guy replied "the president posted this..."

He did not post it. He reposted it.

I think there is a huge difference.

Posting implies he created.

Reposting g does not.

Colbert is being replaced by a black billionaire.

Anyone who complains about Colbert's contract not being renewed wants to deny the black billionaire an opportunity and is a racist.

John Henry

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

I kept watching and wondering and saying to myself, "haven't I seen this pompous twit before?" and yes its Michael Steele. The liberal democrat.

Who used the head of the RNC. Think about that. The bushie-Romney Republican party used to have as its Chairman a liberal democrat who voted for Hillary, Biden, and Harris!

John henry કહ્યું...

I don't think Colbert's replament by a black billionaire gets enough attention.

Listen to the media and one would think cbs will just sign off at 1130

Im not sure which is worse to BSers

1) Colbert being replaced by a black man

2) Colbert being replaced by a billionaire

3) that there is such a thing as a black billionaire

4) that the black billionaire is paying cbs to let him run his show and expects to make a LOT of money doing it.

John Henry

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

Trumps tweet was funny and cute. The fake "concern" is so boring.

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

Its astounding that the MSM is still doing the "OMG, did you see what Trump tweeted, how dare he!" after 11 years. But then leftists never tire of rhetorical tactics or attacking the other side over, and over, and over again with the same shtick.

How many times did Colbert attack Trump? According to MRC over 3000 times in 3 years.

hombre કહ્યું...

Isn’t that the black guy who faked being a Republican for years taking a page from the Democrat playbook? Steele, right?

Joe Bar કહ્યું...

Just what I needed to see. More outraged black democrats.

I just want everyone to remember Steele was the Republican Party leader for years.

He and Thune and all of the rest of the DC republicans are in the same party.

Michael Fitzgerald કહ્યું...

Looking forward to the clip with Steele going into the dumpster right next to Colbert.

Charlie કહ્યું...

"Steele was literally wringing his hands."

I'm surprised he also didn't break down and cry.

Yancey Ward કહ્યું...

Trump's superpower is his ability to force the masks off of people who once claimed to be Republicans.

If Colbert was really that important to the left then maybe they could get up a group of rich liberal investors and DNC operatives to cover the $40 million it was costing CBS. CBS gave them six months to organize and buy commercial time at over market rates to keep him going but they would rather squeeze the dollars "'til the eagle grinned" than fund what was for them was a donation in kind.

So even they knew it was a lost cause.

Smilin' Jack કહ્યું...

“That guy's face is way too smooth for someone with grey hair and his eyes look synthetic.”

And what’s up with his earlobes? Those things must flap in the breeze when he goes outside.

Re the video, if Colbert had had the comic sense to do stuff like that himself he’d still be on the air.

Lem Vibe Bandit કહ્યું...

William કહ્યું...

It's fair to say that the TV ratings have shown that Trump was a more entertaining presence than Colbert. Steele, sadly, has never been a ratings dynamo. Still, unlike Colbert and Lemon, he still has a job. There's an audience for his genteel disapproval. It's small but it's there, and it doesn't cost forty million to produce his show. There's a market for lavender scented Depends, and Steele has found his niche. .

Lazarus કહ્યું...

The long tweet that pretends to be from a CBS exec got it right. Comedy isn't on the networks' late night shows anymore. It went to podcasts, YouTube, tweets, and Instagram.

John henry કહ્યું...

Why can't Colbert go independent? Tucker Carlson seems to be doing OK. Per Claude "After Fox News: Estimates suggest he now earns between $12 million and $38 million annually from his podcast, streaming content, advertising revenue, and subscriptions."

Mr Beast makes $600-800mm per year. According to Grok.

Why can't Colbert's fans support him without CBS?

John Henry

John henry કહ્યું...

Lazarous, we will get a chance to see if late night comedy is dead. Byron Adams is a comedian, the youngest ever to appear on Carson at 17. He has done very well for himself over the years and is a billionaire.

He has bought the Colbert time slot from CBS and is going to run a comedy show there. He will sell ads and hopefully earn more than the rent he pays CBS. If not, CBS will still collect the rent instead of losing $40mm.

I suspect that he will prove once and for all whether the problem is "Late night comedy doesn't sell" or if is the late night comedians who don't sell because nobody finds them interesting.

The amount is not public but Allen said he is paying CBS "Tens of millions" for the slot.

He also said that CBS had been paying $150mm/yr for the Colbert show, and losing $40mm. Now all costs are Allens, plus he pays CBS.

Sweet deal for CBS

John Henry

boatbuilder કહ્યું...

Why can't Colbert's fans support him without CBS?

Same reason NPR/PBS fans can't support their favorite shows. Because "free stuff" means that it's not only free, it's virtuous. Everybody agrees except bad conservatives.

boatbuilder કહ્યું...

If CBS was paying $150 million a year, and losing $40 million, that means they were grossing $110 million on the time slot, even with a very crappy product. If Allen provides anything even marginally more entertaining than Colbert (how hard can that be?) for less than $110 million (how hard can that be?) he'll make a lot of money. Unless the advertisers really were on autopilot (not out of the question).
The fact that Colbert was still on the air, and Kimmel and Fallon still are, makes me wonder, though. Who's really paying for this?

I think you meant Byron Allen.

Leland કહ્યું...

I read much of that long tweet Lazarus posted. This paragraph fits this post:
The President of the United States — the man we spent eleven years explaining was dangerous to an audience that already believed he was dangerous — posted an AI-generated video of our host being thrown into a dumpster on the Late Show set. Then Trump danced to "YMCA" in the clip. Viewed more times in four hours than our farewell managed in a week. His production cost: zero. Ours: negative $50 million a year. We manufactured his relevance every night at 11:35 for eleven years and he never paid us a dime. We were his marketing department. He turned our funeral into content. His ROI was infinite. Ours required a write-off and a farewell concert.

RCOCEAN II કહ્યું...

We all know Colbert's show was losing money, and had been losing money for a long time. The question is - why didn't CBS fire him and hire someone else?

Thats the interesting question.

John henry કહ્યું...

Rcocean

Who else? That would have been the question. Perhaps they felt that anyone else they hired might be as bad or worse.

And Colbert had a contract. It would have cost money to get out of it5
