From "A.I. Videos Help Reality TV Antagonist Break Through in L.A. Mayor’s Race/Supporters have created A.I. videos to boost the mayoral campaign of Spencer Pratt, the former MTV star. Some videos have gone viral, but it’s not clear whether they will yield votes" (NYT).
The phrase "the phony Ms. Harris" genuinely confused me. For a second there, I thought the NYT was calling Kamala Harris — the real Kamala Harris — phony. No, they were using the word "phony" to mean A.I.-generated.
There's also this from Nathaniel Persily, co-director of the Stanford Law A.I. Initiative: "The more ubiquitous that A.I. is in political life, the more that people will find reasons to doubt anything that they see with their lying eyes. From a democracy perspective, the fact that people will be less trusting of true things is maybe a greater democracy danger."
But maybe looking for fakery everywhere is good for democracy. What are these "true things" that need protection from our skepticism? Ask about everything, is this true?

The problem for democrats is that humor is not their friend.
It is easy to make fun of vicious supercilious thieves and fascists.
It is much harder to be funny when all of your jokes are about killing and persecuting your opponents or lying about them calling them racist to justify killing them.
Phony IRL Kamala Harris vs Phony AI Kamala Harris; how would you tell the difference? I'm thinking the latter would be more articulate.
This is what democracy looks like.
Karen Bass and the Dems deserve this. "with depictions of Los Angeles as a dirty, dangerous wasteland." Isn't that the truth? The truth hurts.
And I'm confident the Fake News in LA has done nothing to expose her failures.
The more ubiquitous that A.I. is in political life, the more that people will find reasons to doubt anything that they see with their lying eyes.
Where has Nate been? People already doubt everything they see and hear, especially from college professors and other credentialled experts.
By Nate's standards, people like Nate have been a greater danger to democracy for a long time.
I'm sure Persily's warning would be just as dire if the shoe were on the other foot.
Remember that "democracy" is a synonym for "us in power" in the mouths of Democrats. Once you make that substitution you begin to understand why they are so hyperbolic.
I hope they work. They are quite entertaining. I would like to see more.
A.I. Videos Help Reality TV Antagonist Break Through in L.A. Mayor’s Race There is a good case to be made that Spencer Pratt is actually the protagonist of the LA mayoral race.
Also assisting is the constant oral flatus emitted by the Socialist candidates for the mayor’s office.
I wonder how hard it would be to get AI to produce a word salad like Harris in the way Harris would pronounce it. I mean word salads are easy to make, but then string it together like Kamala Harris, with the pauses and circular references.
“[T]he A.I. videos often venture into offensive territory.“
Now that’s funny - the NYT lecturing us on what’s offensive after publishing complete shit about trained raping dogs. On the offensive scale where do our self appointed arbitrators of taste put that, I wonder.

You would think emptying reservoirs, letting an entire section of a city burn, and then not help or allow people to rebuild would be offensive. I must be crazy.
This really is the heart of the matter - the left has lost their ability to lecture us.
lol, I meant arbiters although arbi-traitors might be more accurate.

“The more ubiquitous that A.I. is in political life” confuses widespread with ubiquitous. Iquitos means everywhere. Something can’t become “more ubiquitous” anymore than it can become “more unique.”
And everyone has know for ever that political ads are bullshit. So is Stanford.
Vids like this will be more influential than common election advertising . Dems have Hollywood on their side.
Speaking of Hollywood, this realistic AI bound to have a huge effect on movie production. Don't need set or actors anymore. There will be fans of popular AI "actors" just as there are fans of Homer Simpson.
"Real" movies gonna go the way of 4 track tapes and rotary phones. Kids will grow up with AI movies as the norm. Honestly, if the story is good, AI could be much better than current cinema.
"From a democracy perspective, the fact that people will be less trusting of true things is maybe a greater democracy danger."
I would think that people being less trusting of true things would be a benefit for the left.
We are hearing every so often people making the joke that masses of MAGA people should go to LA and vote for Pratt, since Cal doesn't check ID's.
Maybe it should be a gigantic prank. Like no one seriously thinking to commit vote fraud, but just showing up at polling places and making a political joke. Because fraud is impossible, right? So your ineligible vote will be immediately detected and thrown out. So there's no mens rea. So it can't be a crime. Just a First Amendment-protected bit of political street theater.
The feds won't prosecute, so it would be up to the Cal authorities to (a) figure out what's going on; and (b) issue warrants for Hugh G. Rection, Mike Hunt, et al, and get other states to arrest these people. CC, JSM

I got energy, bitches.
First time I made an Ai video was last week. I fed grok imagine a stillPic of grandson and text prompt. It made a 6 second video of him making an axing over the shoulder 3 pointer.
I fed it a still Pic of my wife and a youtube link of Eleanor Powell and a prompt. 52 year married and this was the first time I've seen her tap dance. She is really good. I never knew my 10yo granddaughter could play violin either.
If you haven't tried animating still photos, do it. I guarantee you won't believe how well it does.

John Henry, will it do porn? Asking for a friend. CC, JSM
There is a famous picture of Bill Clinton in a blue dress and red heels lounging on a chair. It used to hang in the foyer of Epstein nyc townnhouse
I animated it with grok. He sits up, looks at the camera and sternly demands "release the epstein files. NOW!
I post it daily on bluesky

Not hard at all. In grok imagine it would take 1 minute
1) find a Pic of kamala. Any Pic will do
2)load it
3) write a prompt along the lines of "show kamala in a clarabell clown suit,. In front of a circus tent.
4) have her saying" insert word salad"
5) press create
6 wait 30 seconds
7 enjoy.
You might even be able to have grok create the word salad.

the democrat party offends me.
The corrupt left are emptying our water reserves and blowing up dams for the chi coms.
Obedience comes easy with big bucks and payoffs.
btw- to all leftists who think dams are bad -- stop using municipal water. STOP. save he planet and never turn on your faucets ever again.
Biden was installed thru cheating and soros paid for millions to be shuttled to our open southern border.
Offensive enough?
Uncle Bob is here
I can't get the audio right but here is kamala giving a speech in a clown suit in front of the circus

Not bad for a rough first pasd

I think it will do porn but I'm in an airport with people sitting both sides so not going to try.
Iam using the standard $3/month grok account but I think you can do it with the free version

Yeah, far too articulate to be Kamala Harris.

J.Henry, that stuff is great. Missing the Kamala Kackle. Clinton is pissed off, looks real.
J.Henry, get together with Begly and produce his Frankenstein screen play.
I'd be happy to help begley, he has but to ask. But why should he? This stuff is so simple my 8&10 yo grandkids are doing them. Begley doesn't need me, he can do it himself.
He can use Suno.com to compose the soundtrack.
That was done on my phone, BTW, not even connected to wifi. The kamala one took 30 seconds to create. Literally plus a minute or two to render.
No skill required just imagination
John Henry
Getting the Clinton movement was simple. I spent 3- minutes getting the voice the way I wanted it

Grok?
Yup click the imagine tab
There’s a real danger to having anyone and everyone making Spencer Pratt videos—with no message control from the campaign, there’s nothing to stop some people from letting their enthusiasm get ahead of their good sense.

John henry, that Clinton meme is excellent.

Bravo, Althouse. The "true things" that this quack is selling are Democrat party "values," but the fakery is ubiquitous. Politicians have been lying since politics were invented. Always be skeptical.
John Henry, perhaps add to your prompt to have the phony Kamala speak as if inebriated.
I live in Los Angeles and spent 30 years in low level advocacy for my neighborhood just south of Hollywood and 5 miles west of City Hall. We were gerrymandered out of effective representation on the City Council. The public employee, SEIU and teachers unions took over. The homeless issue is a wedge to destroy single family housing. It's also a tool for massive graft and influence buying and selling. (Developers are in on the game.,making millions)The key to all of this is the soft minded, poorly educated, virtue signallers who imagine that this time we're going to get socialism right. For the first time. Suicidal idiocy.

@Ampersand, since they don’t know — and cannot be taught — why and how socialism failed each time before, it’s 100% that they will make the same mistakes all over again.
In the Batman clip boosting Mr. Pratt, Mr. Newsom’s likeness makes a crude sexual remark, and the phony Ms. Harris drinks out of a bottle of cheap liquor..
Because of course Gavin Newsom has never in his entire life made a crude sexual remark. More reasonable to suppose that Ms. Harris does not drink cheap liquor. Note to creators of AI adverts for Pratt: only show your AI likeness of Harris guzzling expensive white wines.
Many of Spencer Pratt’s most prominent supporters don’t live in Los Angeles, or even California. So why does it feel like they do?
The answer is always “because the internet is a single giant echo chamber with different zip codes”
New ad dropped
It's awesome
"I'm not MAGA or anything."
"...But maybe looking for fakery everywhere is good for democracy...."
Whether people like A.I. to be enmeshed into politics is irrelevant. It's here to stay, like it or not, and not just in politics. And maybe people looking for fakery everywhere will start to get a better understanding of how, akshually, political sausage gets made, and cast their votes accordingly as well-informed citizens.
How wholesome and all-American can you get? Such a contrast to the left. The only two times the NYT enlisted crowd-sourcing was first to find any dirt possible on Sarah Palin and right after J6 they wanted internet sleuthing to assist in tracking down any tourists shown on any surveillance footage from the Capitol.
" the phony Ms. Harris drinks out of a bottle of cheap liquor...."
So... Does that mean that the real Ms Harris only drinks the good stuff?

Spencer Pratt for LA -
California is just waitin'
In Pacific Palisades
San Onofre and Sunset
Redondo Beach LA
All over La Jolla
At Wa'imea Bay
California is just waitin'
Spencer Pratt for LA
If everybody had a vote
Across the U.S.A
Then everybody'd be voting
Spencer Pratt for LA
You'd see them wearing their flannel,
Fishing boots too,
Purple-green or blond with tats
Spencer Pratt for LA
Everybody's secret vote is
Spencer Pratt for LA
California's secret vote is
Spencer Pratt for LA
Yeah, everybody is just waitin'
Spencer Pratt for LA
Yeah, California is just waitin'

I wrote an article about this very topic back about 2021for theloftusparty.com. At the time, it was "deep fakes" that were threatening democracy. I recalled how my father, a voracious reader of books about science, history and unexplained phenomena, was a fan of the Weekly World News. My point was that we've always been bombarded with "fake news," but that we (and democracy) somehow survived and that perhaps it's not a bad thing to be far less trusting of everything.
"I thought the NYT was calling Kamala Harris — the real Kamala Harris — phony. No, they were using the word "phony" to mean A.I.-generated."
As someone oft says, "Embrace the power of "and'".
"From a democracy perspective, the fact that people will be less trusting of true things is maybe a greater democracy danger."
LOL! I definitely have the opposite take: https://frank-hood.com/2026/01/06/the-fault-is-not-in-ai-but-in-ourselves/

Peachy, you need to have a fiery but mostly peaceful protest where you flip over a Nissan Sentra (Amazon sells a 1/64 scale for $5) and light it on fire, all while waving a Gadsden flag.
When people start looking for fakery everywhere--well now, Democrats and Wokesters hurt worst.
The Democrats aquire power by any means necessary, while the Republicans post cartoon memes and brag about "owning the libs".
On a positive note, once everything you see can potentially be fake, we can just ignore it all, except for its entertainment value.
