"...found that about 56 percent of Cubans who reside in the island, and nearly 70 percent of those abroad, would support a military intervention by the U.S. While the results of the survey — which gathered answers from voluntary participants — could not be considered as a representative poll, its findings likely did reflect the exhaustion of many Cubans, said Prof. Michael J. Bustamante, a professor of history and chair in Cuban and Cuban American Studies at the University of Miami. 'I don’t think it means that Cubans relish the idea of a foreign power coming in and fixing their problems,' Professor Bustamante said. 'But I think people are at such a level of exasperation, desperation, they’ll take help for from wherever they can get it.' Raúl Cardoso, a 70-year-old Cuban retiree, said whatever the U.S. decision, they should just hurry up and take it. 'If they are going to go in, they should come in,' Mr. Cardoso said. 'And if not, they should stop talking so much.'"
From "In Blackout-Hit Cuba, Word of U.S. Castro Indictment Spreads Slowly/While many Cubans were divided over the legitimacy of the U.S. charging Raúl Castro with murder, the hope for developments that might ease their suffering is widespread" (NYT).

The only reliably easy thing to find in Cuba is poverty.
“'I don’t think it means that Cubans relish the idea of a foreign power coming in and fixing their problems”
Neither do I. Their problems aren’t ours to solve. We’ve tried enough of that nonsense and it never works.
So more support than we can count on from Democrats. Interesting.
'If they are going to go in, they should come in,' Mr. Cardoso said. 'And if not, they should stop talking so much.'"
I agree.
I know Trump is trying to time this out for the midterms but enough already just give them a week and kill the rulers and get it over with.
I hope we invade Cuba just for the Cubano sandwiches. Or is that a just south Florida thing??? I know the bread is Cuban. The pork and ham are expected. But the swiss cheese, pickle, and yellow mustard make it an international treat. Delicious!!!
The Cubano sandwich is a miracle sandwich. If you watched the 2014 movie "Chef" it's the stories' reunification catalyst. Served from a food truck, it makes you believe Sofia Vergara would sleep with a guy like Jon Favreau.
By all means, please invade Cuba!!!
I am sceptical of any attempt to impose democracy on another country. Has that ever worked out well?
Covert support? Perhaps.

Democracy is a stupid form of government.
It would be evil to impose it on people.
If people, even 70-yo guys with very little to lose, are willing to be quoted in their own names saying anti-regime stuff, doesn't that mean the preference has already cascaded? CC, JSM
reliable polling. pffffft.
The people of cuba have been screwed over for decades because a corrupt communist family stole everything.
They are not sitting in front of phones and computers. they have nothing.
And the American left are cool with that.
RSM - you got it.
Cuba should be our 51st state. and the Castro family should be jailed and their confiscated wealth returned to the people.
Every single castro family member should be held in prison. A trial and death could be OK with me.
Raul Castro turns 95 in a couple of weeks. Has the US government ever prosecuted someone for murder at that age?
We've locked up some (real) Nazis that old. Camp guards, file clerks, etc. Really dangerous MFs. Might as well lock up a genuine dictator. CC, JSM
If Trump is going to do something to Cuba, I wish he would go ahead and do it, rather than slowly starving the people. An appeal to the charity of the ruling class has not worked.
The Times is useless might as well be klingon news
Reading that, unlike Venezuela, Cuba has no extradition treaty with US.
Here's the indictment.
Cuba will flourish once the regime is gone. Your standard Cuban is an entrepreneur, a plumber, an electrician, a mechanic, an artist, a scrounger, in short, a survivor.
Rubio has pointed out that the one place in the world where Cubans don't thrive is Cuba.
Insane how leftists sympathize with murderous thugs. What part of shooting down civilian aircraft is okay with you, readering?
"My murderous client is too old to prosecute, your Honor."
"There's no extradition treaty, your Honor."
Defend your fucking daydream of representing this asshole and trying to free a murderer. Why does that send a thrill up your leg?
I get that every killer deserves legal representation in court. But who fantasizes about representing murderers in court? And getting them off? Why is that your daydream?
On or about July 13, 1994, approximately 70 Cubans attempted to flee the Castro Regime in a tugboat named el Trece de Marzo (the Thirteenth of March). The Castro Regime's Coast Guard, a branch of the military controlled by Castro Ruz, sank the tugboat, killing dozens of their own citizenry.
And your sympathy is with the people who shot them.
Is land cheap in Cuba?

Close. They went all in on prosecuting Trump in multiple venues, for crimes no one has ever been charged with before. He was in his late 70's.
Saint Croix, who says I sympathize with Raul Castro just because I make observations in the comments? What might interest me though would be steps following this prosecution in a Democratic administration against those in this administration responsible for sending US attack aircraft, without it seems attempt to verify or capture, against very many unarmed boats in the Pacific and Caribbean high seas, even killing wreckage survivors.
leftists are clueless to the truth of history and reality.
dumb cruel backward idiots all.
Remember when all of our Lefty friends here were wetting their pants about how great the Cuban medical care system was? Wonder how it’s doing now. Haven’t heard much about it here lately.
Our system has its flaws, notably cost, but I recently went through a medical situation where I had immediate access to technology and treatments that they can’t even dream about in Cuba. I feel confident in saying that if I was a Cuban, I would not be here casually writing this post and drinking an RC cola.
Communism sucks.
Funny how when "The People" get "empowered," the same "People" stay empowered forever, and everyone else suffers.
And the dupes who live in freedom still buy the lie.
"Reliable polling is hard to find in Cuba."
That made me laugh.

It will be. At first. Keep in mind it is currently a shithole.
My wife's first husbands family will try and get their farm back.
Saint Croix, who says I sympathize with Raul Castro just because I make observations in the comments?
I say it. Because I read your comments.
Your follow-up comment is what Ben Bradlee would mock as a non-denial denial

So you've abandoned your fantasy of defending Raul Castro, and now you've gone on to a new fantasy about being a prosecutor so you can send Republicans to prison. Are we in Venezuela now? Your daydreams are shifting through time and space. And your grammar has become unreadable.
If you're hungry and sitting in the dark, it's hard to make a convincing argument for communism. Not that the NYT doesn't make the effort.......I would say that Castro and Chavez did far more harm to their respective nations than Pinochet or other assorted Latin strongmen did to theirs, but count on it. The next time some leftist lunatic takes up arms against any right wing government, the NYT will be in his corner. Starving by candlelight is a better, more glorious fate than being ruled by some guy who wears a military uniform.
There used to be such a thing as "Scoop Jackson" Democrats, who were staunchly anti-Communist. The Democrat party now is filled with Communists, Socialists, pinkos, and innocent people who have no idea what's going on in the world (a.k.a. newspaper subscribers).
Saint Croix, I'm a Democrat and I don't come across many such people. You should get out more.
As i pointed out earlier the company was responsible in not vetting the castros as they did before with ho chi minh and probably chavez not to mention bin laden
Raul Castro turns 95 in a couple of weeks. Has the US government ever prosecuted someone for murder at that age?
While investigators found evidence that Biden - er, Castro - willfully retained and disclosed classified materials, Hur concluded that a jury would likely view him as a "sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory"
well, we did (apparently) make a solumn promise to the USSR that we would NOT invade Cuba again..
Oh WAIT! there IS no such country as the USSR anymore..
Never mind
Someone thinks the US is attacking "unarmed boats in the Pacific and Caribbean high seas"? Are they in fact unarmed? A very fast boat with multiple outboard motors and a cargo of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of drugs is very unlikely to have an unarmed crew. For one thing, it would be vulnerable to hijacking by rival gangs. It's a safe bet that every crewman has at least a pistol, that some have larger weapons, and that they probably include full-auto guns that are (a) illegal for Americans to own, and (b) very effective against boarding parties, whether on boats or in helicopters.
When this campaign started, one of the naval experts I follow on Tweeter mentioned a case from California where drug-runners killed a US Coast Guard member trying to detain them. If I remember correctly, they knocked him overboard and ran over him with their boat, chopping him up with the propeller. So even if the drug-runners aren't armed, detaining them can be very dangerous. And I'm pretty sure boats that stop running, put up their hands, and agree to surrender, are not sunk.
Not sunk with all hands, I should have written. They may well be sunk with their cargoes after the crews are taken into custody, if they're too far from shore to bring to a friendly port - friendly to us, not them, I mean.
Saint Croix, I'm a Democrat and I don't come across many such people.
Karen Bass is a serious Commie. She's like Bernie Sanders that way.
Funny how we are hearing nothing about Venezuela, eh? I guess things must be going fantastically well, because if there was the slightest problem, it would have been on the chyrons by now.
I wasn’t aware a person’s could be used as an affirmative defense on a charge of murder. Democrats defending Marxist use the strangest of arguments. If only they showed the same deference to their own countrymen.
readering cares about drug cartels and drug smugglers.
Also - readering has not a care at all about the people of cuba who have been forced into poverty with the same top-down-theft ideology the democrat party demand for this nation.
a military intervention by the U.S. (in Cuba)
I think we tried that.
