All charges dismissed against "Broadview Six," defense says grand jury transcript revealed "gross misconduct" ~ CBS News
"Speaking after court, defense attorney Chris Parente said the actions by federal prosecutors with the grand jury "should shame every American."
"We have a Department of Justice that hides behind the grand jury in selling these indictments against Mr. Comey, against Don Lemon, against Brian Straw and the rest of the Broadview Six, saying, 'Hey, it's not us, we have a grand jury, a fair and impartial grand jury,'" Parente said. "Shame."
"Parente, who was a federal prosecutor for 15 years, said he had never heard of anything as bad as the conduct in the Broadview Six grand jury sessions. He said that while he has not yet been able to review the unredacted transcripts, Judge April Perry gave a summary in court of her impressions. She said she had reviewed thousands of pages of grand jury transcripts in her career and had never seen anything worse than what she saw in these pages.
"Parente said during the grand jury sessions, prosecutors used vouching, which he called a "101 no-no for any prosecutor," kicked out grand jury members who disagreed with them, did not disclose that a No True Bill – which indicates no indictment – had been returned to either the defense or the public. Parente also said that after receiving the No True Bill from one grand jury, they re-presented their case after excluding grand jurors who disagreed with them. The grand jury then returned a True Bill to indict the "Broadview Six." Parente also said that while Judge Perry thought only 30 lines in the transcript had been redacted, prosecutors actually left out entire pages and never informed her."
Prosecutors kicked off grand jurors and then re-presented the case against the Broadview 6, then altered the grand jury transcripts to hide it from the judge. Kinda defeats the point of having a grand jury if you can just boot everyone who didn’t want to indict, keep everyone who did, and keep trying until you get the result you want.
This is extremely lawless and corrupt by the Trump DOJ. So, par for the course. The presumption of regularity is a joke now, and federal prosecutors won’t recover the esteem they had from federal judges for a generation. (Which, actually, is fine.)

Gene Parmesan is the guy who made the yoga studio ad for Pratt, and the new BBQ ad that just dropped.
The socialist lady at the debate suggested that it ought to be a crime to grill in your backyard, so her numbers seriously tanked. And this new ad riffs on that (maybe), by setting the scene at a backyard grill.
Parmesan is a black Republican -- or at least a Pratt fan -- so he probably has a lot of experience about being judged by people. I like the humor and the fear/sensitivity in the ad. He addresses the issue that Pratt is angry. "They burned his house down."
It's more negligence than arson, but that's a brutal attack line. And I love how the ad responds to the criticism that Pratt is "staying at the Bel-Air."
Great use of repetition, humor, music. The sexual division, the fear of talking about politics, the implicit call for people to have these conversations with friends and neighbors. Brilliant ad.
"And I love how the ad responds to the criticism that Pratt is "staying at the Bel-Air."
I don't see how his staying at the Bel-Air is some kind of criticism. I mean- are the critics attempting to convince people it's an improvement over being able to live in his burned-down house, or what?
Among other negative things, AI development appears to be making a lot of folks very nervous that it has the potential to make five or six people extremely powerful.
Currently, at least a billion people with a smartphone have access to nearly all information, as well as equal access to expert training and advice.
It’s not a stretch to say they have access to an expert in every domain on Earth… a person who is much more knowledgeable than anyone that they personally know and can call.
It mind boggling that more people can’t see this. If you're smart and you know how to utilize these tools, it is true. It’s amazing in terms of what your productive power could be… the ability to take whatever idea you have and bring it to fruition. But that’s not what the average person will use it for, unfortunately, lol.
His original ad suggested he was living in a trailer. So they're trying to say he's a liar and that he hasn't really been hurt by the fires. It's a really dumb response.
"Nothing I do is political because it's local issues. Water. Power. Your police. Your fire department. Your potholes. Your sidewalks. Your street lights. That has nothing to do with the national politics, or who's in the White House, or what party -- it's nothing...It's a non-partisan race. There's no letter next to our names on the ballot. The reason is because it's designed that way. The mayor's seat should not be a political seat. These current mayors that we've had have actually destroyed the idea of the mayor. They've made it a political position. And they talk about other states, and they talk about national politics."
I would call this Classic Rock. But I am perplexed about this part; "Never been a sinner, I never sinned, I gotta friend in Jesus."
I thought the whole point was that we have all been sinners, we have all sinned, and that's why we need a friend in Jesus. Anyway, really nice guitar. I guess it's "easy listening".
"I never sinned" seems like an ultimately nihilistic declaration. The chute is so narrow, and so well-greased, that I am confident I can slide right down without ever encountering any obstacle. But. Slide right down to where? The whole point of Christ is that he can forgive us for what we cannot forgive in ourselves. I have to say, I understand the attraction. But I can't accept the solace. No one can forgive my sins. I am going to have to find a way to forgive myself. Or else ....
Look, let me try to clarify that. I am what I have done. For whatever reasons I did it. The man I am is the man who did those things. If someone feels that I have wronged them, they can certainly say, "Don't sweat it. Shit happens. Etc". But that doesn't alter in the slightest the reality of what I am. Someone can say, "I absolve you of your bad decisions", but I am still the person who made those decisions. I am here, in my cell. Someone else can open the door. But that doesn't mean that I am free. I am what I am. Could I somehow aspire to be something different than what I am? I think not. At best -- at worst -- I might aspire to be taken for something other than what I am. By others. But by myself? Do I want to take myself for something other than what I am? Do I, perhaps, not want to know what I am?

DataRepublican (small r) @DataRepublican · 14m Replying to @LeaderJohnThune and @SenateGOP Hello Senator Thune, I'm replying to your post from yesterday: "Despite Democrats' partisan games, we're still going to get the entire federal government funded." Today, you sent the Senate home... not because of Democrats. Because of you. Here's what actually happened. On May 18, the DOJ announced an Anti-Weaponization Fund: $1.776 billion to compensate Americans harmed by Biden-era DOJ abuse. Your own caucus revolted. After a two-hour closed-door meeting, you departed for Memorial Day recess without a vote. ICE and CBP funding, punted to June 1. The "partisan games," it turns out, were yours. Your stated objections: no congressional authorization, no eligibility standards, no legal precedent, executive overreach. Fine. But let's talk about November 2025, when you tucked a provision into the government funding bill. The FBI had quietly seized phone records from eight Republican senators without notice, under an investigation codenamed "Arctic Frost." Your provision gave those senators, and only those senators, $500,000 per violation, retroactive to 2022. The House voted 426-0 to repeal it. The critics weren't opposed to compensating victims of DOJ abuse. They were opposed to senators compensating themselves while doing no other structural reforms. Lindsey Graham held the Senate hostage to preserve it. He delayed a spending deal in January 2026 to secure a floor vote on his revised version. Let's put the two columns next to each other: ➤ DOJ abused senators: $500K/violation payout, senators only, no hearings, no process, no eligibility debate, no floor vote on substance. ➤ DOJ abused Americans: "very legitimate questions," two-hour meeting, Senate goes home, reconciliation punted, June 1 deadline in jeopardy. You told Punchbowl News you "did not personally see a need for this fund." You personally saw a need for the fund when the targets were you. Go cry harder to your Punchbowl friends @JakeSherman and @AndrewDesiderio, because at this rate, they'll soon become the only people who are buying what you're selling.
Jupiter, you do realize Spirit in the Sky was written by Norman Greenbaum? So he was not an expert in Christian doctrinal formulations. But I would say a kind interpretation of the lyrics, consistent with doctrine, is that JC makes it as if I had never sinned. He takes away all the consequences. This is probably also (except for the JC part) consistent with the Jewish theology behind Yom Kippur.
I do like your bit about how our mistakes make us who we are. I think we are put in this world and made with a sinful nature so that we can learn and grow and be ready to use the immense powers we will have when forgiven and resurrected. JC for whatever reason knew what it was like to resist sin, but does not know what it is like to sin. Maybe because of the need for a sinless sacrifice, if you are into those theories of the atonement. Maybe just to avoid charges of hypocrisy from the sucka rabbis. But anyway. Perhaps this is why he alludes to us having even greater powers than him: just as he grew in wisdom and stature, so do we, and our mistakes give us more to learn from. Maybe that takes it too far. But even dialed back down to 10, there seems to be a purpose in our crappy nature. CC, JSM
"Listening to Jack Smith call President Trump a “serious” criminal sounds ridiculous when serious criminals Obama, Clinton, Brennan, Comey, and legions of their Democrat colleagues, subordinates, and co-conspirators in the DOJ, FBI, CIA, D.C. courts, and FISA Court (see Judge James Boasberg’s impeachable offenses) have never been properly investigated or punished for undermining President Trump’s election, sabotaging his administration, and framing him for treason."
The "Christian" theming in music and film during the late 1960s and 1970s was a reaction and reference to the dominant culture of the time. A huge percentage of countercultural references were heretical or hostile -- see Jesus Christ Superstar, Black Sabbath, any anything The Beatles members (e.g., My Sweet Lord -> Hinduism, Imagine -> atheism) and Rolling Stones touched (e.g., Sympathy for the Devil).
I'd consider none of them believers, rather, commercial artists selling marketable content to cookie-cutter Baby Boomer "rebels."
Ozzy's Black Sabbath lyrics are not Satanistic. Even the eponymous song* is about a damned soul crying for help. War Pigs is an anti-war song. Similar with Iron Maiden and 666, which is about a random dude horrified when he stumbles across a Satanic ritual. Sorry, just being a heavy-metal pedant.
But yes, in 60s pop culture there was a lot of cafeteria Christianity.
*I love it when the song, album, and band have the same name. One of my bucket list items: to be a DJ and announce one of them. "That was Black Sabbath, by Black Sabbath, from the album...Black Sabbath." I'm funny that way. CC, JSM
Watching last night's Jesse Watters, with Kaylee McEnany subbing. She's going in depth on the Minnesota fraud. This gave me an idea for an Art of the Deal:
MN pardons PO Chauvin and his mates, and kicks them enough money to live on since they'll still be unemployable. In exchange, Trump pardons all MN politicians for the fraud.
I must defer to the views of true belief Christian communities on whether something is "Satanic," and I treat dark pop culture references as critiques of Christians at best. This follows from the literal statement "Kill them all, God will know his own" of hundreds of years ago. Then, Metallica named their debut album "Kill 'em All." The mere symbolism of Rush's pentagram on the 2112 cover, or everything from Slayer, etc. resulted in "DEVILS" accusations and absolute rejection in the true belief community.
I heard a recorded sermon or frightened rant during the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s -- some guy spent a lot of energy finding issues in everything and anything. He played records backwards, went after Black Sabbath and Ozzy's "Suicide Solution," condemned the metaphors of Hotel California, etc. That guy made me laugh out loud (as I sang along with the songs).
Regarding the Late Show audience, 6.5 million is roughly 1% of 1% of the country. Back when Nielsen could actually measure the share of the viewing audience, that stat was more important.
I see red And it hurts my head I guess it must be something That I read … And the mercury is rising Barometer starts to fall You know it gets to us all The pain that is learning And the rain that is burning Feel red, still, go ahead You see black and white And I see red, red Not blue
Enigma said... “The mere symbolism of Rush's pentagram on the 2112 cover…”
“Oh, what a nice, contented world, let the banners be unfurled Hold the red star proudly high in hand We are the priests Of the temples of Syrinx”
It amazes me that those people miss that the pentagram was the symbol of the bad guys. I would have thought that the symbolism of the red star of communism joined to the pentagram with imagery from Orwell’s 1984 would have been obvious.
Rush was in the reactionary-commercial-atheism camp with John Lennon and Black Sabbath. Excerpt from "Freewill" lyrics:
There are those who think that life has nothing left to chance A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance A planet of playthings, we dance on the strings of powers we cannot perceive The stars aren't aligned or the Gods are malign, blame is better to give than receive You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose Freewill ...
One of the key reasons why Trump's presidency seems as peremptory, unscripted and abrupt as it often does is that Trump doesn't have the luxury of a cooperative network of bureaucrats, journalists, and NGO's to grease the wheels of public opinion. Instead of creating a slow build for his ideas with internal reports, well planted articles, and benevolent messaging from the nonprofit sector, he just issues an order and starts the project. He needs a parallel cooperative network, and it's just never gonna happen.
I'm commenting on the oil-vs.-water viewpoints and cultural tension. The 1950s "Swords and Sandals" film era was ultra respectful of USA Christian theology. They loved Spartacus, Ben Hur, etc. They often rejected or condemned JCS.
I think Sympathy for the Devil is a very provocative and interesting song. Kind of similar to The Screwtape Letters. And personally I liked it that the Stones identified Communism as Satanic.
Stuck around St. Petersburg When I saw it was a time for a change Killed the Tsar and his ministers Anastasia screamed in vain
They correctly identified Nazism and Communism as Satanic. How many nice liberals missed that one?
Brilliant movie about the wrath of God. And it’s a super-realistic epic, in the style of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. The whole second half of the movie I’m going, wow, wow. I just love the parting of the Red Sea, how grounded in the world it is, how realistic. Scott took some liberties with Biblical text, which annoys a lot of people (very low rating at IMDB). But he’s captured the heart of the story. It made me weep.
Then there’s Peter Pumpkinhead by XTC. He was too good/Had him nailed to a block of wood./He died grinning on live TV/Hanging there he looked a lot like you, and an awful lot like me! CC, JSM
*mandatory caveat that you don’t get TV unless you get Christianity first. Electronics, free market, mass communications (hee hee, double pun intended) all depend on Christian concepts. But it makes the song scan. CC, JSM
When I was 14 or 15, these two guys in a car were really excited about the Ozzy Osbourne concert. Four or five of us kids were walking by them in a parking lot. And one of them asks us, "Are you going to the Ozzy concert?" And we're all, "No." And he yelled, "Ozzy rules!" And they started to drive away.
And that's when I shouted, "Ozzy sucks!"
The driver hit the brakes. And the passenger got out. He was huge. Way bigger than any of us. And he stormed over to us. And we're like, "Oh shit."
And the guy said, "Who said that?"
And he asked Todd (preacher's kid), and Todd says, "I didn't say anything."
And the guy's like, "Who fucking said it?"
And I was quiet as a mouse. Lied, probably, I don't remember. And none of my friends ratted me out. And the Ozzy fan cursed us, then he got back into his Satanic car and went to his concert. To bite the head off a bat, probably.
Musicians create. They enter into a transcendental state (often with chemical help, but still) of communion with their fellow musicians and fans. So they approach the divine. Yet they are painfully aware of their imperfections. I guess that’s why some of the most religiously effective musicians are really crappy people. CC, JSM
And the list of celebrities who wanted to associate with it is pretty striking:
David Allan Coe, Patricia Arquette, Travis Barker, Peter Blake, Bono, Sheryl Crow, Johnny Depp, the Dixie Chicks (now known as The Chicks), Flea, Billy Gibbons, Whoopi Goldberg, Woody Harrelson, Dennis Hopper, Terrence Howard, Jay-Z, Mick Jones, Kid Rock, Anthony Kiedis, Kris Kristofferson, Amy Lee, Tommy Lee, Adam Levine, Shelby Lynne, Chris Martin, Kate Moss, Graham Nash, Iggy Pop, Lisa Marie Presley, Q-Tip, Corinne Bailey Rae, Keith Richards, Chris Rock, Rick Rubin, Patti Smith, Sharon Stone, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Brian Wilson, and Owen Wilson.
"Watching last night's Jesse Watters, with Kaylee McEnany subbing. She's going in depth on the Minnesota fraud. This gave me an idea for an Art of the Deal:

What do you think? CC, JSM"
Sounds like a poor bargain, not so much for the police officers, but letting the pols go for cheap hardly solves the bigger problem.
I stopped following Tull/Anderson after Passion Play, but have learned from Wikip- and YouTube that he has been cranking out the same sort of stuff ever since.
The recent stuff I've sampled isn't up to his/their long-ago best musically; I haven't listened to enough newer lyrics to analyze whatever theology or spirituality they may contain.
Just BTW, I happened to turn on the TV this morning while I ate my Cheerios, and NBC had the band "Bleachers" performing outside. I had never heard of them, and they are simply execrable. They and the fans looked retarded, but I guess that's the norm for pop nowadays.
There should be leagues for all tastes. Some people don't care if their sports heroes are juiced and actually might prefer it; purists can set their own rules.
Same same for transthletes.
(I for one miss the great East German Youthsex squads.)
Perhaps they could identify the competitors by the specific formulations they use. This would give viewers real-time data on which doping recipes perform best. After all, any glory—if it’s even warranted—belongs to chemistry here, not to the “athletes,” who don’t really need names.
Technology driving performance, in motor racing everything is optimized to get a victory. It is claimed that Ferdinand Porsche said: "The perfect race car crosses the finish line in first place and then falls to pieces."
Madtownguy, yeah, trading Chauvin &Co for Walz &Co is lousy at a Benthamite level. And it might encourage the taking of more cop hostages. But it would free innocent men who got up that morning intending to put themselves between the people of MSP and danger. In exchange for pardoning shitheads who might never get convicted by a D Minn jury anyway, and who are set for life no matter what.
So the Benthamite cost might not be that much. I still haven’t made up my own mind if it’s a good idea. CC, JSM

Thousands of years ago, men stood at that same spot and wondered : "what's on the other side". Then they jumped in the water and tried to find out.
Women stayed home and took care of the housekeeping, laundry, babies and pets, as God intended
He says as he looks in the mirror, lol…
Spenser Pratt on our Republican president.
Boom.
I would call this Classic Rock.
But I am perplexed about this part;
"Never been a sinner,
I never sinned,
I gotta friend in Jesus."
Sunrise for Althouse.
Sunset for Colbert.
Tried to watch some "highlights" of his finale, but he's so Goddamn boring I couldnt get far. Kimmel and fallon went dark in support. BTW, here are the rating for Mid-April for Late nite shows:
18-49 Demo (in thousands)
Colbert - 233
Kimmel -256
Fallon - 177
Total Audience all three shows - 6.5 million. Which means that about 90 percent of the audience is over 50!
Final Talk show episode comparison -
Carson - 50 million viewers
Letterman - 15 Million
Leno - 15 million
Conan (last NBC show) - 10 million.
Lets see how many Colbert gets.

SHOCKING FOOTAGE SHOWS CAPITOL POLICE OFFICER LILA MORRIS BEAT AN UNCONSCIOUS ROSANNE BOYLAND TO DEATH ON JANUARY 6TH, 2021 Almost no one has heard her name. Rosanne Boyland, a 34-year-old Trump supporter from Georgia, went to the Capitol on Jan 6… and never came home. This raw video shows her LYING UNCONSCIOUS on the ground, BLEEDING from her mouth and nose, while Capitol Police officer Lila Morris BEAT HER REPEATEDLY with a baton as she lay dying. The medical examiner looked at that same footage (or claimed to), conducted an “autopsy” and still ruled “NO BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA”… then called it an “accidental amphetamine overdose.” A COLD-BLOODED COVER-UP caught on camera. They smeared her, hid the truth, and gaslit America while real Americans rotted in prison for “parading.” The entire J6 narrative is COLLAPSING as more raw footage emerges. Share this before Big Tech scrubs it. The dead deserve justice. Her family deserves answers. #JusticeForRosanne #Jan6CoverUp #J6Truth #RosanneBoyland

Hello Senator Thune, I'm replying to your post from yesterday: "Despite Democrats' partisan games, we're still going to get the entire federal government funded." Today, you sent the Senate home... not because of Democrats.

What do you think? CC, JSM
Why do blue states get to keep their unconstitutional maps?
Regarding the Late Show audience, 6.5 million is roughly 1% of 1% of the country. Back when Nielsen could actually measure the share of the viewing audience, that stat was more important.
If Republicans can’t oppose this, there is no rationale for them to be in office

There are those who think that life has nothing left to chance
A host of holy horrors to direct our aimless dance
A planet of playthings, we dance on the strings of powers we cannot perceive
The stars aren't aligned or the Gods are malign, blame is better to give than receive
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose Freewill

One of the key reasons why Trump's presidency seems as peremptory, unscripted and abrupt as it often does is that Trump doesn't have the luxury of a cooperative network of bureaucrats, journalists, and NGO's to grease the wheels of public opinion. Instead of creating a slow build for his ideas with internal reports, well planted articles, and benevolent messaging from the nonprofit sector, he just issues an order and starts the project. He needs a parallel cooperative network, and it's just never gonna happen.

(See also "Spirit in the Sky" -- lousy theologian, but he means well).

I didn't appreciate that song when Depeche Mode sang it. I thought they were mocking Christianity, maybe? And then when Cash sung it, wow.

350 Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)
Brilliant movie about the wrath of God. And it’s a super-realistic epic, in the style of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. The whole second half of the movie I’m going, wow, wow. I just love the parting of the Red Sea, how grounded in the world it is, how realistic. Scott took some liberties with Biblical text, which annoys a lot of people (very low rating at IMDB). But he’s captured the heart of the story. It made me weep.
Epic.

CC, JSM
The actual video that Johnny Cash made was for another religious song, God's Gonna Cut You Down
And the list of celebrities who wanted to associate with it is pretty striking:
David Allan Coe, Patricia Arquette, Travis Barker, Peter Blake, Bono, Sheryl Crow, Johnny Depp, the Dixie Chicks (now known as The Chicks), Flea, Billy Gibbons, Whoopi Goldberg, Woody Harrelson, Dennis Hopper, Terrence Howard, Jay-Z, Mick Jones, Kid Rock, Anthony Kiedis, Kris Kristofferson, Amy Lee, Tommy Lee, Adam Levine, Shelby Lynne, Chris Martin, Kate Moss, Graham Nash, Iggy Pop, Lisa Marie Presley, Q-Tip, Corinne Bailey Rae, Keith Richards, Chris Rock, Rick Rubin, Patti Smith, Sharon Stone, Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, Brian Wilson, and Owen Wilson.

Do you have to wind your God up on Sunday?

CC, JSM

"That was Black Sabbath, by Black Sabbath, from the album...Black Sabbath."
Released in 1970, it's widely considered to be the first heavy metal song.
It only took (sarcastically) 13 years for a heavy metal album to reach #1 when Quiet Riot's Metal Health did it in November of '83.
