"We want a full house cleaning. Get the garbage out of here. These jerks are destroying Congress, for the American people and for all of us who came here to do good work."

Said an unnamed House Democrat, quoted in "Swalwell scandal threatens cascade of House expulsion votes" (Axios).

But: "Many rank-and-file House members are territorial about their prerogatives and terrified of the precedent it would set to expel someone on the basis of allegations that haven't been fully adjudicated — even when they are highly unsavory."

The House and the Senate didn't just recently get slimy. Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd were making waitress sandwiches when Eric Swallwell was barely in kindergarten. Back then they called Ted Kennedy the 'Lion of the Senate'.
Standards have never been the strong suit of our Congress.

Dave Begley म्हणाले...

Congress is already destroyed.

No, we want full hearings. Televised. We want to give Eric the full Kavanaugh treatment. Due process. We want to cross these women. We want all the details.

Dave Begley म्हणाले...

Eric, the lawyer, should insist on public televised hearings to clear his name. And we want to see his calendar to see if the dates and times match up.

Jamie म्हणाले...

"Fully adjudicated" - or, you know, at all. But sexual scandals have been politicians' stock in trade for a very long time. I guess the difference now is that sometimes, for some people, it's considered necessary to make the scandals judicable, by any means necessary.

We want the details, Begley, but you know we won't get them. This is the same Congress, remember, that recently in a bipartisan act of solidarity refused to make public the Congressional Harassment Settlement Fund. We won't learn jack shit.

In an interview with MSNBC, he stated that if Kavanaugh were innocent, he should welcome his accusers to speak: "I hope tomorrow he opens his statement and says, 'You know what? Bring in all the victims, all of them to be questioned. That will clear his name if he is indeed innocent'"

Calling for Delays: He argued that the mounting allegations pointed toward a need to delay the confirmation process so they could be properly investigated

.
Right to be Heard: He frequently emphasized that "the accuser has a right to make her claim" and that victims "deserve to be heard"

I’ve seen both Justice Kavanaugh and Rep. Swalwell speak in person. Kavanaugh was so, so impressive. Swalwell was Senator Gearey to the max.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

While I strongly suspect the allegations against Swalwell are mostly fabricated by the supporters of his primary opponent in the June 2nd jungle election, I must revel in the schadenfreude of Swalwell getting a taste of his own medicine- enough of it to kill his political career.

It’s not like there’s some sort of morality standard to serve in Congress. This is election ducks in a row and nothing else…

Pretty obvious for a while now that every person in Congress belongs in jail.

There might be a couple that aren't millionaires yet. I would love there to be exceptions. They all seem like scumbags to me.

Does anyone here honestly think Trump would not get over 50% support from Americans if he put all 535+ members of congress and all of their staff and half a million sheisters in DC in jail?

He could put Thomas and Alito in charge of a new limited court system and be done with the whole thing.

Let the states run themselves and keep the military rolling.

Solves many problems.

In 2022, then-NC Rep. Madison Cawthorn blew the whistle on the filth that goes on in D.C., saying he had been invited to o*rgies & drug parties.

He was immediately slandered by the media & politicians, who weeks later released photos of him in women's clothing.

Today, video was leaked of a Democrat Senate staffer having gay s*x in the Senate hearing room.

Cawthorn was right, but unfortunately D.C. is good at one thing and one thing only: Blackmailing people so they can continue to live their double lives, similar to what they did to Cawthorn.

What you saw today is just the tip of the iceberg. Washington D.C. is beyond corrupt and beyond disgusting.

Democrats chose ethical stonewalling after Al Franken's resignation from the Senate. They swallowed decades of internal abuse, and let their literal psychopaths take over (Adam Schiff et al). Because of Trump and TDS.

The old "progressive" nanny Democrats tried to make the world a safer place per car, alcohol, food, tobacco, discrimination, feminism, and many more laws. The recent ones have simply bribed as many people as possible to cover up issues and preserve power. If they come clean, the Party will split between moralizers and predators. They will then lose, and the moralizers will join/shape the conservative pendulum swing now in progress.

Aggie म्हणाले...

From the article, which you can read past the paywall by using 'print preview (F9):

"State of play: Swalwell (D-CA) is facing allegations of rape, sexual assault and harassment from four women. He has denied the allegations, vowing to fight them even as support for his California gubernatorial campaign deteriorates.

2. Gonzales (R-TX) admitted to an affair with a staffer who later died by suicide and is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee.
3. Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) was found guilty by the Ethics Committee on a litany of charges, most notably that she funneled $5 million in Covid relief funds to her congressional campaign. She has denied wrongdoing.
4. Mills (R-FL) is under investigation by the Ethics Committee on an array of allegations including financial misconduct, campaign finance violations and sexual misconduct, all of which he denies. ...
"

You know what I want? I want somebody like Elon to figure out how to let Americans be polled on day-to-day public interest issues, to send a continuous, live, direct message to the Washington politicians that represent them. I want the software to include up-front identification, to ensure the voter in the poll is an actual citizen and real person, and at the same time, preserve their anonymity past that gate. I want it broadcast on different platforms and networks. I want there to be an unambiguous clear message to these frauds, so that they can't pretend they didn't hear it and aren't aware. I want it to be the new benchmark in governance. There are so many 80 - 20 issues percolating right now, it's time for the You Will Listen message.

Seems eminently achievable, when you think about it. And once it's in place, any arguments about voter ID will be dead and buried - since the problem was just solved, and if it wasn't, here are the numbers from that poll, as a reminder.

Mr. T. म्हणाले...

Now all the California democrats are coming out of the woodwork saying they knew about Swalwell all the time.

So why did they stay silent? Do they think there is honor in confessing now aftter staying silent for years. This is performative outrage by them-nothing more. Of course we are in only Stage II of the Stages of Democrat Denial:

Stage I : "Swalwell is innocent and the victim of a smear of hitherto and perpetually unamed "dark money 'alt right' billionaire cisgender colonial capitalist Israel-funded effort. "

Stage II : Well yes, it's true about Swalwell and we've known about it for years, but it's not a big deal, and we'll pretend to care but we'll refuse to tell him to drop out or resign.

Stage III: "Waaaaha BuT TrUmP!!!"

Stage IV: "Waaaaha BuT TrUmP!!!"

Stage V: "Waaaaha BuT TrUmP!!!"

Stage VI: "Yeah Swalwell is a rapist slimeball, and we all know and have known for years, but it's still the Right's fault for drawing attention to it."

Stage VII: "Swawell is a rapist and we love and fangirl over him and will vote for him! Just like Graham Platner, Jay Jones, and Anthony Weiner! Those are our new age Democrat leaders! <3 <3 <3

bagoh20 म्हणाले...

If the rest of us had a secret slush fund to pay off accusers, we'd be nuts not use it. Women lie about this stuff regularly and often for politics. There were thousands of women who suddenly claimed that Brett Kavanaugh had assaulted them when he was nominated to SCOTUS.

tommyesq म्हणाले...

"for all of us who came here to do good work."

Assumes facts not in evidence.

tommyesq म्हणाले...

By the way, the reason this is likely coming out now - Swalwell is running for governor of California, and California has an "open" primary for governor (and I believe for other state offices), in which all of the candidates run in the same primary, regardless of party affiliation, and the top two vote-getters advance to the general election, again regardless of party. There are seven democrats currently running, and only two republicans, and democrats fear that the seven could split the democrat vote enough that the two republicans could be the top two vote-getters, closing dems out of the general. They need to cull the democrat field. This has nothing to do with cleaning up Congress.

IamDevo म्हणाले...

First of all, anyone who expects that the democrats are going to actually either force Swallowswell to leave Congress or support the republicans in an effort to do so are naive beyond words. Second, when a democrat talks about "doing good work," he/she/xe/they mean, "raise taxes and steal government money to give it to people who are most likely to vote for me."

Clyde म्हणाले...

Two things can be true at the same time: Swallwell may be a despicable creep, and the news of it may be coming out now to help narrow the Democrat field.

Leland म्हणाले...

I don’t think Swalwell should be expelled. His constituents put him in office, and that is their choice. However, I don’t think Jeffries or Pelosi get a pass to demand Swalwell end his gubernatorial campaign while not also asking for him to step down from his Congressional office. There is no consistency in their arguments.

Gospace म्हणाले...

Mike, Swalwell resigned from Congress.

My point is mostly that I don’t agree with expelling him. It sets the precedent that Democrats were trying to use keep Trump out of office. Calling for resignation is one thing. Expelling is another. I’m not interested in Democrats strategy of canceling people when it conveniences the party. Let voters decide.
