"The more I advance in my life, the more I fear humans. I’m more animal than human."

Said Brigitte Bardot, quoted in "Brigitte Bardot: I tried to kill myself many times. A miracle saved me/The 91-year-old screen icon discusses her struggles with depression as a young woman in a new 90-minute documentary titled Bardot" (London Times).

Can't say as I blame her. She would have seen the absolute worst aspects of human behavior, from both men and women. I'm glad her withdrawal from the screen to private life mostly was respected, not completely, but then that's the price of stardom.

A couple of things BB and her ilk don't understand is that the humans she dislikes are the ones that are more animal than human. And the animals she loves can be just as cruel and vicious as any human .

Hands (manos) with the opposing thumb are literally and figuratively what makes us human. Perhaps arthritis has reduced her dexterity to mere claws.

The internet tells me that Bridget Bardot never stopped smoking so 91 seems mighty impressive.

How many times have the French come after her and they can't shut her up? She's not even all that wacko, relatively speaking. She has gotten in trouble so saying things like Muslims shouldn't be sacrificing goats in a civil society. Is it really that bad to be asking whether people should stop clubbing baby seals. Definitely in the group of lefties that I don't agree with, but admire.

Sorry for her problems. What a magnificent animal she has been. Is she a case of extreme introversion?

Yes, the exceptional person wins and the average person is screwed. Nature is not fair with the gifts she brings.

She was hot. We had a lot of hotties in the 60s. Good for her, making it to 91. Honestly, you make it to 90+, I don't care how you did it. You did good.

One of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.

Brigitte Bardot: I tried to kill myself many times.

Roger Vadim had that effect on people.

Just be glad you didn't end up like Jane Fonda.

She looked like that and now she looks like this. Pity and terror....Well, she got to look like that for a few years, and she got to reflect upon the sorrows of passing time in her old age. On both counts, that's not something everybody gets to do. Still, it's kind of haunting that even with a winning hand, there's not much in the pot to win.....Not all sex symbols end up like Lady Hamilton or Marilyn Monroe, but there's a pretty high mortality rate. A lot of people root for extravagantly beautiful women to come to a bad end and for great athletes to have arthritic knees. Life just seems fairer if that happens......Ann Margaret still looks terrific and, unlike Bardot, she made some movies that have something more to offer than her beauty. Bardot was a great star who never made a great movie.

There are many species with opposable thumbs. And species with hands with opposable thumbs start with our close relatives, the other apes.

There’s no one trait that makes us human, but a collection.

Forget all the animal-rights nonsense. Here's how to remember Ms. Bardot,

65 years ago, she was a real star.

The Truth.

It was all down hill from there, but that's a cool movie.

Everybody stand up

I remember her screen test, she did her best
She wore a black leotard, and a Richards dress
All night dancing in a Paris café
I’ve got no response to the time of day
She’s got Bardo damage
She burned a hole on the silver screen
She’s got Bardot damage
She’s been in every one of my dreams
